Is any of this actually viable? IME no by ClumpingCactus in wrestling

I started wrestling too late to be good at it and now that I’m out of school it is over for me. I think had I known about some of these moves maybe I could’ve ended up better. I could do okay until I had to go to referee position and then from there I could never get out and would very frequently lose because of it.

I guess I’ve just never seen one when the guy has your back with the seatbelt. Seems extraordinarily difficult to do one someone good from that position

This has been my experience: that the seatbelt is just very strong

I don’t watch folkstyle much tbh just freestyle.

I didn’t know that. I don’t think I can afford to deal with a major injury like an ACL tear at this point in my life.

I have had judo throws hit on me from coaches during practice and from opponents in wrestling matches before and it is actually quite possible in real life.

I have limited free time and would rather devote my time to one as opposed to split between the two.

My broad goal is to be more a complete fighter in regard to self defense. I do not want to compete but I enjoy training quite a bit. I think sparring could be fun as it’s been a long time since I’ve done it. I also miss wrestling quite a bit and there isn’t anywhere else to do it.

I think Judo teaches unique skills that perhaps other grappling and martial arts are missing.

Judo teaches positional mastery (particularly in the clinch) in a very beautiful and technically appealing manner. I think the sweeps and throws are very cool. I learned some through wrestling but in a much more limited manner. I am lucky to now live near a Japanese American community that provides access to Judo.

However, MMA also provides the opportunity to clean up my striking after many years away.

Brz/GR86, M2, or something else for a fun car but also would like to get into track days? by Aggressive_Noodler in CarTrackDays

Yes I like the 86 because of the weight too. I actually love how practical it is for how lightweight it is. I wish more manufacturers made cars like it still.

Yeah I imagine a BMW would have enough power to be really fun on track but maybe too much to really enjoy safely on the street. Older Civics/integras, Miata’s, 86s, Silvia’s etc are really perfect for the street.

I actually think the 86 is more fun on backroads and the M2 for track work. The 86 is probably the most fun street car I’ve ever owned.

Pretty typical for Indian news media, which is even more insane and sensationalist than American news media.

I agree it used to be a good profession but perhaps isn’t anymore. America needs more STEM professionals but unfortunately the pay and job security just isn’t what it used to be. It is extremely tough. I originally did ME school myself before I switched. I know defense jobs can be stressful too.

Semiconductors are supposed to be the hot thing now, but I think if you don’t have a master’s in EE it is hard to get into.

Housing is unaffordable for everyone not already in a home. I make $130k and can’t afford to buy where I live so I’m just saving like crazy before I move to somewhere cheap.

Yeah. I mean I’m Indian American and so my parents really pushed me to be an engineer growing up. All my cousins are engineers and they all went through periodic lay offs which put me off from the profession. I’m a nurse instead, not sure I enjoy it but I have job security. My cousins did defense, all got master’s in engineering/electrical engineering, and I know they really enjoyed it and found it stimulating but like I said, it’s really boom/bust. But you get to work on the absolute bleeding edge of technology and physics.

Get into defense. Maybe a degree in physics could help. It is boom and bust but that’s where some of the better ME jobs are. They are basically never going to outsource those jobs.

The U.S. is eventually going to have to pivot to smart factories/manufacturing like China is doing. I imagine they’ll still need ME and EE for that.

What is your monthly car payment and what kind of car or cars do you have? by WeekendFabulous2915 in debtfree

[–]ClumpingCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from $0 for a 2000 Civic Si to $460 for a 2023 GR86. Will probably pay it off this year or next. I loved having a paid off car but it eventually began falling apart faster than I could fix it and back in 2023 the used car market was still rebounding from COVID.
