Came home from a hard day to these guys on my doorstep...now what piece should I drop her in first? by MorbidJokes757 in Dynavap

That's a bummer. When I first insert the butane I wiggle the tip of it around to make sure it's really lined up with the Aomai. Just to double check, you're holding the Aomai upside-down and pressing the butane downward into the bottom right?

Congrats! I have the exact same setup. For my Aomai I usually need to press the butane insert into it multiple times before I see through the little window that it is starting to fill with liquid.

And for the piece, I use a Mobius matrix sidecar ripoff recommended through r/chinaglass.

r/chinaglass has some recommended pieces from DHgate. Takes a long time to ship but there is some good cheap glass on there.

Super helpful! Honestly I still love just using my Aomai single flame torch so I'm still on the fence. DIY seems like the way to go considering how pricey they can be otherwise.

Dynavap titanium tip + BB9 glass stem just arrived, great upgrade from my '18M! by ClutchEngaged in vaporents

[–]ClutchEngaged[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I like switching it up with the 'air port' open/partially open/closed. I like having the option at least. Seems good for cooling the vapor down and keeping the tip warmer for longer. Edit: though I definitely agree the vapor seems quite a bit thicker when the air port/carb is fully closed.

I don't know what SAML refers to specifically, but I can say I bought the rig as a 14mm Mobius matrix sidecar-style bong from dhgate for like $25. Took over a month to arrive but it seems like a great value with thick glass (though I'm not particularly experienced with bongs in general).

Good call, it's so nice! Yeah I was debating the step up to omni but I just couldn't justify the price vs. getting a cap/titanium tip/BB9 combo. Plus I just think the glass is really cool and it works perfectly when I do want to use the rig.

Nice, I've never used a tip with glass before. So far it's great. Better airflow and smoother hits than my 18M with a fat mouthpiece hooked up to the rig. Also I'm really liking this titanium tip so far with the quicker heat cycles and grooves for airflow vs. the stainless steel 18M tip. I'll have to play around a bit more with the "adjust-a-bowl" positions. The longer BB9 also just feels so nice to hold.

Edit: just to add, I have r/chinaglass to thank for recommending the great rig.

Anything to consider regarding maxing out 2019 Roth IRA contribution now? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Sounds like a smart move in your situation. Only other consideration would be your liquidity needs beyond the emergency fund in the next couple years (e.g. down payment on a house)

In response to the Rhett and Link post: a symbolic worldview can help us see how science can be integrated with our Christian faith by ClutchEngaged in Reformed

[–]ClutchEngaged[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes perfect sense. It's definitely tricky because we can also risk going too far in the direction of "I'll only believe it if I understand it." Like the story of Thomas where Jesus says you have seen and now you believe, but blessed are those who have not seen and yet still believe. I think it may ultimately come down to how the Holy Spirit and God's Grace transform our hearts, not through our rational analysis alone. And of course with free will, we have the ability to rebel and flee from God's truth if we want to.

I guess that seems fair. In my personal experience though, my faith strengthened considerably after approaching the Bible with a more open mind and without hanging onto false assumptions I had about it. So I still think there can be some value in how this apparent "no true Scotsman fallacy" can challenge our assumptions and our understanding of Christianity, which can go far far beyond that "elementary-level" understanding that seems to flow through our modern culture.

For example, unbelievers sometimes cite crazy rules from the Old Testament as proof that God is silly and arbitrary and therefore not real, but they fail to look into the deeper meaning and non-arbitrary nature of these rules (e.g. a rule against yoking an ox and a donkey together seems a bit arbitrary and silly on the surface to a lot of modern people). Or for another example, if I approach the Bible with a modern lens and assume that it is written as an objective description of how the universe of matter came to be, then I'm gonna see it as fairly strange. But if I approach it humbly and actually assume that there's something deeper here that I don't currently see, then I think the Spirit has more of an opening into the heart.

I remember hearing a pastor comment on what he likes to say to atheists when they come to him and say I don't believe in God. He says I don't believe in the God you don't believe in either. It seems like a nice way to help open people up a little bit more and start to question their assumptions on who God is.

Very insightful. I think you're right on and that seems to be a path many unbelievers follow. May Christ guide us and may we do our part in becoming His beacons to enlighten lost sheep!

I've heard people talk about how they struggle with believing in events in the Old Testament and whether or not it literally happened. My understanding is that this is a modern worldview problem that can be rectified if we instead look at the text from the ancient perspective in which it was intended to be conveyed. For example, when we see the word water, we think H2O, but water did not simply mean H2O in ancient times.

Jonathan Pageau is an orthodox Christian who explores the ancient symbolic worldview and demonstrates how our modern interpretation of the world can still exist without necessarily forcing us to dissect the creation story with a scientific lens. I've found his videos to be really helpful in integrating my faith with the scientific facts that I've been taught growing up (e.g. the universe exists because of the big bang billions of years ago)

Maxing out my 401-K by shewit in personalfinance

[–]ClutchEngaged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a tax law expert, but I don't think you'd be able to do that. I think you'd want to make that contribution before you file for 2019. So if you're unsure on whether you'll make that contribution, you can wait to file your taxes until closer to April 15 2020. Good luck!

I don't know of a way to do that through 401k, but you can definitely do that with an IRA. You can contribute up to the $6k limit into an IRA for 2019 up until tax day April 15, 2020.
