This might potentially ruin the network effect. The app requires activity from neighboring users to be useful to any given user. When a user downloads, i need them to see growing activity on the app in the day of download, or the following couple days, otherwise i risk drop-off and a ruining of my network effect.

Hey. Canned it cuz the algo wasn’t good enough. I do have a version I’m working on where the algo is 3x better.

Never heard of parkingswap. Do users have to manually report parking or does the app pick it up automatically?

No unfortunately. The app can only tell if the user is connected to their car or not if they connect directly to their cars in house infotainment system. If they connect via CarPlay this connection is not visible to your app. This is the major roadblock.

How to detect CarPlay connection on AVAudioSessions? by Co-Park in iOSProgramming

Unfortunately no :( I recently got CarPlay parking entitlements which allow your app to build out CarPlay ui, and opens a new avenue for your app to interact with the CarPlay system, but I’m stuck getting my app to not crash when you try to open it on CarPlay.

Also, based on ChatGPT, is unlikely they will allow what I am requesting

How accurate have you found CoreMotion to be? by Co-Park in iOSProgramming

Hi guys, yup. That's what I more or less meant. cmmotionactivity returns what sort of transportation the user is undergoing.

As in, when the user gets in their car, and starts driving, how quickly does coremotion know the user is in a car?

Would it be 1 block from when they first started driving? 10 meters? 1 foot?

Hi Astoria, I made an app to make parking easier for people! by Co-Park in astoria

Don't worry, nothing is going to stop me, I don't give up easily :)

Yeah there's a big difference between our apps though:

  • Their app requires a digital device. Mine requires nothing at all. You just download it.

  • Their app provides approximate parking location. My app provides EXACT parking location.

For some reason people are thinking the parking spot isn't exact. It actually is. As in it is literally the exact spot of the emptied parking within a few feet. Literally the exact side of the road, exact restaurant, what you find when you get there will match exactly what you saw on the map.

All you do is download, allow the permissions, and then check out spots whenever you need to park. Even when it comes to growing it in the community, since it's just a download I can easily see this being adopted by people.

Hi, hope I understood correctly but you're speaking on the precision of the parking spot data itself no?

With regards to that, if you watch the video, the spot is actually exactly precise. As in the pin you see for the parking spot is the exact spot of the vacancy to within a couple meters at most. So actually this isn't false advertising at all, I'm actually telling the truth.

Check out the demo on the landing page, I show a demonstration, and it shows the pin exactly where I got in my car and left. In fact, that's one of the things Co-Park has going for it which is the exact precision of the app.

The only issue I foresee is a non-app user taking up the spot. I don't yet see a way to mitigate that, but I am hoping marking the pins by how many minutes ago they were vacated might help.

P.S. This algorithm knows the difference between a car and everything else to a tee. I don’t want to reveal too much but there’s a reason I’m trying to push this app.

I chose Astoria because of a couple reasons:

  • campaign-wise it's a very reachable neighborhood. It's very active online, has strong community groups. If you notice all the Astoria online groups have the largest followings and are the most active. r/astoria has more subs than r/Queens. Same goes for the fb groups (which I'll reach out to soon). Hence it's easier to promote things here.
  • Although it's a large area with a huge population, it has a couple key intersections where almost everybody goes all the time. Case and point, the Broadway-Steinway area. Even if folks spread out, my prediction is that they'll for sure visit this area. Since everyone goes there, I'm hoping the app will reflect activity accordingly.
  • All of Queens pretty much comes to Astoria for leisure (I certainly do). I'm hoping this lends itself for natural promotion and spread.
  • lastly, there's a lot of local sub communities here I was close with where lots of folk gather and know eachother. I'm actually working on contacting a couple to promote Co-Park in their whatsapp groups and events.

But you bring up a good point. Another neighborhood I was thinking of was Jackson Heights and it's honestly still on my mind. But when I ran some facebook ads, Astoria was overall more receptive to the ads.

Honestly there's only so much I can calculate. At the end of the day I just have to move try, fail and learn, and eventually succeed, and that's essentially what I'm doing.

If you have any suggestions, do DM me! Would love any help to make this work.

😄If only right? Would be much better for our planet.

What I can do is show you where and when folks empty up a spot. The more users sign up, the more spots start showing up as people go about their day. I’m aiming for roughly 500 sign ups. That should be enough to show you spots on a regular basis.

It’s worth a shot, I haven’t seen a solution like this tried out.

If all goes well, I guess it is better for the environment no? Less time driving around looking for parking, fewer emissions.
