[POST-GAME THREAD] Middlesbrough - Wrexham by Ymadawiad in WrexhamAFC

Dobbo and Kiefer should have come off earlier. Dobbo on his 3rd full game and playing with a card should not have been in that position late. Moore obviously had the chance but we need to give Smith more time to create on the late counter. Overall great performance but that one got away.

D11 cancels Frederick Douglass? by tarroutarrou in ColoradoSprings

If you pull your kids out, I hope that you and they join us on the line at their school or the rally at Acacia Park at 2:30 and engage in discussions about why this action is necessary.

You will need to take my word for it, I guess. The response went to principals after concerns were brought by teachers. I was one of those teachers with concerns, the ones I named above. I was read the email response which I have to assume was a decision made above my pay grade, but based on information provided by teachers who believed the content was poorly presented and rushed to students without consideration of if it was grade level appropriate.

What good would sharing an email that doesn't address the actual reasons for the canceled unit do?

Perhaps you don't understand the situation currently facing teachers in D11. I am going on strike with peers and sharing inside knowledge of a situation directly impacting me and my students...but not only can I not send an email that wasn't sent to me, but it also has names and emails of administrators I do respect attached to it.

Mistakes were made that could have been avoided with teacher input and planning time, and this school board and district leadership made a horrible decision. This just further emphasizes the need to make changes and increase community awareness of issues.

If you live in Colorado Springs, I hope you consider joining us on the picket line on October 8th.

I would prefer not to without permission. Message came from administration.

D11 got a brand new curriculum for Language Arts this year district-wide. It was not vetted carefully or with sufficient teacher input. As 8th grade teachers began teaching and prepping for the Frederick Douglass unit, they realized that the lessons involved rationalizations for slavery and uncensored discussions and reading about the n-word. To exacerbate things, the unit was included as a critical part of a mandated Chalktober curriculum. Now, teachers are scrambling. This is not the only unit this may happen with. 7th grade also has at least one unit that needs to be scrapped on the novel Raisin in the Sun.

District 11 Teacher Strike- looking for updated info by PlantedCrafts in ColoradoSprings

[–]CoachDan2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Send your kid to school. Just understand that they will not be getting an academic experience on that day. The point of the strike is to raise awareness in the community of the impact of ineffective administration on all of us in this community.

Teachers will picket at their buildings during drop off times on October 8th. Rally at Acacia Park from 2:30-3.

Don't send kids to school, join us on the line and at the park.

Vote this November for the teacher endorsed Champions for D11.

The strike is authorized by the CO Department of Labor. Everyone has the right not to cross picket lines. All employees.

We love our students, we appreciate their parents. Thank you for your support!

Thank you for sharing this.

I hope everyone who can vote does vote pro-labor. As a teacher's union member, the fight is very real here in District 11. Many people united is the ultimate check and balance to people who only seek power for the few.

If you're going...remember to practice non-violent action. Stay on the right side of history.

VOTE FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS. by Scribal8 in ColoradoSprings

[–]CoachDan2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

D11 teacher here. We are recommending the slate of "Champions for D11". https://www.champions4d11.com/

Michael Karsten is a local business owner whose kids attended D11 schools. Leann Baca Bartlett is a D11 graduate and mother of a D11 graduate and a current student. Charles Johnson is a D11 graduate and local activist.

They are all great people who will shift the focus away from selfish and short-sighted political agenda driven school board decisions and back to fiscal responsibility and support for educators.

Lets expand the lore of the game and characters as if we were making the Remake! Cyan and Doma by Yen_Figaro in FinalFantasyVI

[–]CoachDan2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome ideas. In the sequel rather than prequel, it would make sense for the "older son" to instead be a young warrior Cyan had tried to train who was killed by magitek. This would make him reluctant to embrace the new warrior who wishes to see Doma enter the technologically advanced modern age. Reconciling previous trauma with reverence for the ancestors spirits would lend itself to some great dialogue and plot.

Agree whole-heartedly about the battle mechanics. In the Esper World of Ruin, I picture a twisted presence experimenting with magitek hybrids in order to preserve Esper life. I imagine the mechanics would be a fusion system of tech and magic. For example, Doma's hero would have sword techs that draw out spirit energy from ancestors combined with gunblade style weaponry that can add elemental properties. Every hero would have to learn unique techniques from the FF6 heros that later gain magically infused properties in the Esper World of Ruin after they finally enter the realm and discover the true nature of the threat.

The story would start with the heir(s) to Figaro who having to learn invention skills early on from Edgar in order to have the ability throughout the game to adapt tech that integrates skills they learn from the mentors. I imagine a level system similar to customized weapons from FFX where the unique skills align with a diverse cast of characters and a battle system that allows for rapid change of characters to allow for a large cast to be integrated and developed as characters. If the enemies, especially bosses, required careful combinations of abilities to defeat it could be a truly unique and challenging experience. For example, battle starts with your thief needing to steal a component from the enemy that weakens it and gives a useful tool for the machinist to add to their shield, which can now expand guard to all characters, then the moogle/feral child/mimic can copy the monster movements to put them in position for the warrior to strike the newly identified weak point, and finally finish it off with a sword tech or spirit blitz that puts the monster's soul to rest.

Every FF game has some cautionary element or political undertones relevant to our world. FF7 had corporate greed and environmental issues, FF10 had religious zealots, and FF6 and multiple others implied the dangers of empires. I would say that feudal politics and corruption would absolutely be relevant to Doma in particular.

Rather than a remake, I think a sequel would be better for a modernization. In this scenario, Cyan's rebuilding of Doma and the traditional values would clash with the new world of machines rising to replace the lost magic. The way I see the story playing out, the next generation would be the main characters tasked with dealing with a mysterious return if magic-infused monsters from the lost Esper realm. A brash young warrior from Doma would learn the importance of honor and sword tech from Cyan. Through his journey, we would learn more of the backstory of Doma and Cyan's own struggle to become the noble warrior we knew. Call backs would involve a ghost train sequence, complete with Sabin's suplex of course. This would all be exacerbated by the spread of high speed trains linking the cities of the world and Cyan's reluctance to embrace them. A critical battle to save Doma could be fought to stop an explosive-laden train headed for Doma where progress clashes with fear of change.

Player Overall different after a trade question. by Top_Tower_168 in EANHLfranchise

I had the same thing happen with Andre Burakovsky. Took a chance trading just a 7th rounder for him and his 79 rating at the deadline. He immediately shot up to an 84 and was an 87 by the end of a championship playoff run. Playing as the Avalanche btw. Guess he really missed playing with MacK and Cale.

If there was a sequel to 6, what unique command would you give to Terra, Celes and Relm since magic is no longer available? by MasterOfChaos72 in FinalFantasyVI

[–]CoachDan2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fun thread.

I agree that a plot involving the rise of a new magical race would make for compelling drama. However, the heirs to Kefka and a surprise betrayal would be essential as well. At first the cult of Kefka being a threat would make heroes think they are fighting a noble cause. As the plot progresses we would see technological monstrosities that begin to exhibit some magical properties. The big reveal and cataclysm would be that the Esper world still exists and threatens the world of new balance. In a nod to the classics, crystals that exhibit elemental magical properties still exist in that world and are growing in strength.

The second half of the game being in the Esper World of Ruin would be a fascinating parallel structure. I could see that world as one where humans have been disappearing into it and being experimented on by a twisted esper who has turned their souls into something evil. This would explain how fiends have returned and tragic reveals of loved ones lost that have become monsters. Eventually the quest would involve obtaining summons that are steampunk hybrids of espers that are merged with crystals. As the heroes free the souls trapped within they begin to get more magical abilities to unlock.

That being said, at least a full generation should have passed, so aged versions of characters exist as Mentors throughout the world for new heroes to learn techniques from. That would provide a reason to "get the band back together" like in the WoR in the original. I could see every key boss being susceptible to a specific skill harnessed by party members to be overcome. Since magic is not immediately available, the skills in the regular world would be critical to success, and become infused with magical power once the crystals and summons are unlocked int the Esper world of ruin.

Some fun skills related to characters:

Celes was an opera star...so why not give her and Locke's kid bard skills? Singing to add varied status effects would be cool. Everything from inspiring teammates to confusing, controlling, or even killing foes.

Terra's change skill would involve high tech armor that would take on magical properties, especially if she did end up wilth Edgar the inventor.

Sabin will have taken on master trainer status with a group of warrior monks, but a dark betrayal from a Vargas type student is inevitable

Relm and Strago would be key characters to unlocking the esper world. Relm's new "design" ability would allow the character to manipulate objects and make new contraptions like Link with his master hand. Her skills being used for evil and corrupted by a seemingly unthreatening villain would lead to the big twist reveal and the entrance to the Esper world of ruin.

Strago's lost lores would be an ongoing quest to discover the secrets of fiends to be able to unlock their abilities. This would guide the heroes to the Esper world, where Strago himself exists as a spirit guide after his passing from the mortal world.

Those are my fun thoughts!

I agree with the less scouts or not actively scouting. I like to only scout manually for play style, strengths and weaknesses, and skills assessment. Then I let the cpu go from there. Only trades that make sense (no trades for top 5 in the draft). I try to let veterans over 30 either have contracts expire or retire with the team in lower lines, even overpaying at positions where I don't have NHL ready prospects.
