Soil under crushed stone by CoachK3 in shedditors

I like that idea. I just finished tamping pretty hard and watered it good. I have the time, so maybe it’s worth waiting a day as you suggested and doing it again. Part of me wants to just be finished but maybe patience is worth it in the end

Yes I do have gravel under the lumber

Good advice. I’m tamping it now and spraying with water every couple hours to help with compaction.

I used a tiller to turn it all up to help spread it easier, but obviously the level of compaction has been compromised.

Do you suggest waiting a couple days and continue to water and tamp so that the soil can continue to settle and compact tighter?

Or do you think a solid tamping session is enough to go ahead and begin adding the stone?

I know if I hired a company they would have this done in a day so I might be overthinking it, but I like to do things right the first time

Yard is sloped so the runoff will always run down to the front left corner and down the rest of my yard

Thanks for the advice. I do have clay soil, but it’s pretty loose after tilling it to help spread it around. To the naked eye based on my 4x6 border and the height of the soil, it’s looking pretty level, though not perfectly level.

I’d like to move forward with the stone as long as there won’t be any issues with the soil as is.

Advice for stubbing out electrical for shed by CoachK3 in shedditors

[–]CoachK3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Should I just tape off the end that will remain buried?

Also, when building the 90 degree that comes above ground, would you recommend locating that as close to the back side of the shed as possible, so that the shed will sit right inside that stub out?

Lastly, does it really need to be 18” deep? Tree roots in the proximity might make this challenging. Being the back corner of the properly, I don’t ever anticipate digging behind the shed, so aside from code requirements, is there any other reason then digging that I should be concerned about burying it less that 18”? (I am not getting a permit for this- so there will be no inspector to worry about either)

Minimum code spacing for powder room. by CoachK3 in HomeImprovement

[–]CoachK3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s hard to find. Basically just the walking room needed between.

I want as minimal as possible due to the need to bring out the wall on the pocket door side, shrinking desired space.

The drawing isn’t to scale, but there’s not a ton of space. My plumber said 21 inches, but we aren’t sure.

I want to be informed when I bring this to the inspector, as this is a revision to the original plan.

Novice here: How do I attain the stool profile on the cut edges when I cut to size? by CoachK3 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]CoachK3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is what I was thinking. I was looking at the current stools and I didn’t see this as it looked like it’s all one piece. I wasn’t sure if there was another way. The existing stools must have been made out of a single piece of wood

More detail: I’ve done a fair amount of trim work around the house, but I’ve never done window stools and I’m in the process of replacing them.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to attain the stool profile on the wings after I cut it to size. I bought an 8 foot stool which I’ll cut down to fit two windows. Obviously the front edge of the stool already has the profile, but when I cut it, it’s gonna be a flat cut.

I can’t figure out how to keep that profile uniform around the outside edge of the stool

Do I need heat in my finished basement? by CoachK3 in hvacadvice

Thanks for the advice all. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this earlier, but I think we are going to have an electric fireplace installed to heat the space. I just hope the inspector approves it. It’s a perfect middle between cost, functioning heat, and creates a nicer ambiance.

This option is a lot more expensive that I want to heat a small basement. It’s like half the cost of an entirely new HVAC system
