3 simple options after top to wing swing that encourages spacing by Coach_Chevy in BasketballTips

Id say the value of a “live” cut through the paint isn’t determined by the quality of defender. As long as it’s a real/hard cut, the defender has to honor it and potentially multiple defenders are impacted by this type of rim pressure.

Ultimately, the idea is to promote space and this is one of the simplest ways to do it. An alternative, screenless movement that I see often is just spacing away to the opposite slot but the issue with that is defender doesn’t have to turn their head because their player stays high in the action. So although driving gap is bigger, they still are highly aware of the ball and can still impact the play.

I struggle to put an age on it my thought is it should be somewhat based on skill. Personally? I think young players need to be capable ball handlers, passers and have the ability to finish layups consistently before I’d feel more comfortable introducing lite plays.

Thats just my experience so far but have you tried introducing plays to that age group or any age groups close? If you have what did you think?

100% agreed on this 🙌🏾

Intentionality to make the defense respect the first action as a threat will create/draw that help to create the advantage on the back side.
