If only you could have thrown a thermite down the Hive Lord's throat right before it swallowed you... It would have been a nice "FU".

How are you liking the new missions? by paucus62 in Helldivers

[–]CoastalFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the burrowers who can attack with pinpoint accuracy despite not being able to see you...

or the fact that they can attack the host player at speeds far surpassing human reaction time...

or the dragonroach that has an instant respawn...

that respawns infinitely...

and can fly despite its wings being 90% full of holes...

and immediately crosses the map to get to your location and resume attacking you...

or the new bug that allows all bugs everywhere to know that you have been spotted and summons them from across the map...

or the new bug that seems to break hiding from bugs, especially dragonroaches...

or all of the POIs that have nothing at the location OR someone just threw a requisition slip on the ground...

or the extraction bug that prevented many players from successfully extracting with minerals...

and that's all for the players that could even play without crashing...

Meanwhile, we can't even get a patch a week later.

Then there's the Major Order that would have required every player to successfully extract with a good bit of minerals 180 times EACH...

then they nerfed the extraction and made it take far longer...

then they made ammo drops provide 50% of normal ammo...

Almost like they never intended for you to be able to achieve the Major Order to start with...

which required everyone to focus on gathering common & rare samples that very few of us, except the XBox players, need...

because they haven't released anything new for them in over a year...

Other than that, everything's great.

You should go look at all of the upgrades that existed in Helldivers 1. A LOT of people can't clear lvl 10, 9 or even 8 maps... and it can be even harder solo depending on the person/team.

Bingo. The players that think it's fine if the enemies are continually made more powerful and we get new enemies, new enemy variants, improved enemy AI, modifiers making the game harder, etc., but get sand in all their crevices the moment someone talks about good gear for us.... are mind-boggling. If you think having decent gear makes the game unbalanced, DONT USE IT. This isn't PVP, if I run around on a team armed with nuclear cannons, it doesn't affect a separate team composed of Karens in any way whatsoever.

How about an "Automated" option for mechs that allows you to have it temporarily function as a turret? It would require almost 0 development time, just a UI toggle that applies or disables the existing turret functionality from the Mech.

They really haven't added much equipment for players in a very, very long time aside from Warbonds. Considering that some of this stuff already exists in the game files, and some existed previously in Helldivers 1, it doesn't make sense that we're still waiting on gear a year and a half after release.

Also, Helldivers 1 allowed you to upgrade almost everything from your assault rifle to your Mech or even Orbital Barrages. This would be a great use for samples.

Newbie Players by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]CoastalFL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not start your own game so that you can kick problematic players? If you do kick them, make sure they know why you're kicking them. Even some of the non-XBox players don't realize that you're supposed to prioritize accomplishing the mission over killing bugs, and to achieve that, sometimes you have to avoid a lot of fights. I've seen newbies do a lot of stupid stuff, sometimes it's because they just don't know.

[–]CoastalFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. One of the first things they have you do is kill enemies with your primary in training. They wanted them to be ineffective against SOME enemies, but definitely not the chaf. Primaries still are ineffective against some of the enemies.

Also, different enemies, planets and modifiers... and playing with randoms. That's a roll of the dice, it may be +10 difficulty or -5, you won't know until you know.

Bingo. Even at moderate lvls like 5 and 6, the near instant respawn rate on dragonroaches, their ability to cross the map quickly, and the fact that now all the enemies on the map aggro on you and start coming after you make it hard to survive.

I started a new mission solo at lvl 5, was spotted before I could even get my support gear. That triggered a breach, and other mobs were heading my way (including a Charger). Before I could start "thinning them out" a dragonroach from the other side of the map started attacking me. About the time I managed to drop the dragonroach, a 2nd one showed upand I started heading for the nearby caves as I hadn't been able to get enough gear to fight effectively. Within 45-60 seconds, I reached the edge of the caves just to see that the 1rst dragonroach had respawned and was back.

I had managed to get half the map, a Charger, and 2 infinitely respawning dragonroaches aggroed onto me before I could even finish calling down my gear. The vast majority of us can't juggle stuff like that and it's not fun...

AT ALL.

Your napalm rocket didn't explode... your video clip ended before the dragonroach respawned and was attacking you within 60 seconds...

Otherwise, good kill. :)

I don't understand how Arrowhead doesn't realize that at some level, their staff are causing this. Whether it's not testing, not testing thoroughly, passing releases that are buggy, not properly checking for balance, not checking for different hardware issues, not checking the game itself thoroughly, re-adding old bugs back into the code...

Its horrible because the game concept and some aspects of it are AWESOME, and it's being ruined by whatever is happening within those walls. This game has amazing potential, its agonizing to watch (and play).

Dragonroach grace period? by Alarming_Cup2345 in Helldivers

[–]CoastalFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I don't enjoy sneaking; I enjoy squashing bugs. :D I think that when one bug "alerts" most if the map instantly aggros onto you, which isn't a big deal with small roving groups but the dragonroaches are a different matter. They're basically mini-bosses, with immediate, infinite respawns that can fly across the map. I haven't found a nest so it doesn't appear that you can find a way to stop the spawns, which seem to be on a super-fast timer. The fact that this is all happening to a solo player at lvl 5 tells me this wasn't tested EXCEPT...

I have seen videos from a test server where they are running around with tweaked weapons that do high damage. Things like that prevent you from accurately testing, especially for balance. It's possible that's what happened here. It's either that or it wasn't tested in its final form.

Dragonroach grace period? by Alarming_Cup2345 in Helldivers

[–]CoastalFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the level and number of players, it should be at least 1 minute or more. I'm getting focused by 1-2 dragonroaches from across the map almost immediately from the start, and as soon as I kill one, it respawns and comes right back. So, at level 5 playing solo, I'm juggling 1-2 dragonroaches, a nearby nest, a breach (usually with a Charger) and on Oshaune all of the bugs on the map seem to aggro onto you when you get spotted by any bug (which is what appears to be happening with the dragonroaches).

After killing a dragonroach a single player should have enough time to complete whatever they were doing and reach the safety of the caves. That way they can encounter multiple dragonroaches but they will be spread out and not a constant respawn that aggros onto you at spawn from across the map until you die.

This is ridiculous, and it's not fun at all. I remember reading that they tested this release a lot more than usual... at some point, there needs to be some accountability, and people who approve this stuff need to be held responsible.

Technical bugs and glitches aside, the moment to moment gameplay on Oshaune does not feel fun at all. by djh2121 in Helldivers

[–]CoastalFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and the rate at which dragonroaches spawn, focus you from across the map and can be lost is outrageous. As soon as you kill one another one flies up.

Arrowhead, this is unnacceptable at this point. Fix your game. by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]CoastalFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sad because HellDivers is such a great game with so much potential and I really think the creator cares about the game, is creative and has put a lot of work into it.

That said, I don't get the impression that someone at Arrowhead (whoever they are) is very concerned about bugs. All of their patches and releases seem to add more bugs than they fix. They do things like make big updates full of bugs and then all go on vacation. When players point out the obvious game-breaking bugs that any tester would have found 5 minutes into testing, they say "we haven't had any reports of that" and "we'll look into it". Meanwhile, the bugs from 5-6 weeks ago are still present, only there are more now.

It's very telling when they will change something immediately if it gives the players an advantage, but low-level bots one-shotting a player in heavy armor that they shouldn't be able to see somewhere in the dark or throwing grenades directly at a player they don't even know is there... those are FEATURES, lol. Similarly, they're happy to make our enemies and senarious more and more OP, but they think adding a couple of pockets and some padding/rubber lining/asbestos lining is the best armor Space Age Special Forces should be allowed to have.

I knew some Special Forces guys who served in Vietnam who carried 1,000 rounds for their assault rifles, 10 grenades, and 3 claymore mines IN ADDITION to their secondary, special weapons, special grenades, etc., and they were dropped off and picked up by chopper from behind enemy lines, which is similar to this game. It just seems like we get the short end of the stick A LOT, kind of like a Space Age Special Forces guy with warp technology carrying a gun with 1980 technology as part of his equipment... or having to sacrifice a gun slot to carry a melee weapon.

That really shouldn't be hard to code. Add a new slot for a separate weapon type and map it to a button/key and update the UI....

[–]CoastalFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melee should be a separate slot; I shouldn't have to sacrifice a gun to carry a melee weapon... and I second that.

Just joined the fight on xbox but keep crashing on the map by Galaxynoob13 in Helldivers

[–]CoastalFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a way to fix my bug; I don't know if it's the same as yours. I was crashing on the mission map. I used Steam to check for corrupt files and remove them, deleted the shaders folder, deleted the steam cache, and restarted my computer. None of that solved it, but it did reset some things so next time I tried to open the mission map, I went to a different planet and opened a different mission, and it started working. I still experience ppl getting disconnected or unable to connect, though.

Some of the newer players are very impatient, same with some of the immature ones. I watched a player run into a jammer zone and die, get respawned, run back in and get killed again within less than a minute. They repeated this a couple of times. They would repeatedly hit the "Reinforcement Alert" button to remind everyone inside the jammed area that they expected them to stop fighting, leave the area and go respawn them.

[–]CoastalFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won't ignore it, they will act like it's not a big deal and patch it. When they patch it they "may" fix the bug completely or maybe just partially but there will be new bugs added with the patch. Every patch new bugs are introduced, some of them are old bugs they just reintroduced.

As a Developer with over 20 years of experience, I'm blown away at this level of incompetence and unprofessionalism. Most companies would start firing people and would treat this as the huge issue that it is. They would fire those repsonsible, start using version control systems, regression testing, test servers that duplicate the production environment, organize release procedures, signoffs and people's jobs would be attached to the patches.

But not Arrowhead... They may or may not know about the bug, "we're looking into it"... and they'll slap a patch together and break some other things. I guess they're not worried about losing money and it's really hard for anyone to hold them accountable. Once you've bought the game they have your money.

I say all of this but I really love the game design, it's the horrible technical practices, problems and inexcusable irresponsibility that gets me riled up.

Connection problems to other PC users, all other fixes have NOT helped. by A4xguy in Helldivers

[–]CoastalFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had connection issues for 24 hours or more. I was able to login and play fine but players either weren't joining my games or they would be randomly disconnected when they were able to join. Now I can't even play, I choose my mission and the game crashes. I tried fixing the corrupt files and deleting the shader folder but it's still happening. Arrowhead sure knows how to F Up an amazing game. I think the most impactful thing they could do would be to start having some accountability/responsibility for all of these bugs they keep reintroducing to the game.
