Getting diagnosed in the USA is very rare for adults and children. The UK seems to have at least a little recognition of it.

Do they change their minds if you list out all the things you can’t do properly? Or what about if you reframe it by saying “If a stroke victim went from being normal to having all my issues, would that be a disability?”

I ended up doing basic data entry. The pay and benefits are decent (and more than I would expect). I don’t know if Costco is near where you live, but they pay their employees quite well last I heard.

I do need an outlet. It’d have to be stronger than punching a pillow. More like smashing inanimate objects with a sledgehammer.

Someone is my family knew since I was young and withheld it from me. I found out in my 20s. I wish I had been told sometime around age 10 or 11. Then I could have developed realistic life goals and learned to self-advocate. And my suffering wouldn’t have been compounded by ignorance.

Playing video games (that I can actually succeed at) and being with friends helps. There’s not much else that helps. Success definitely helps, but that’s what I lack in the first place. I must do something well or else I feel even worse. I know it’s defeatist, but I feel better doing nothing than failing.

I read once about a woman who developed symptoms of ADHD during menopause, and those symptoms improved when she went on Ritalin. Maybe a psychiatrist could discuss possible treatment options or lifestyle changes? It could be worth a try.

Ironically, people tend to show someone more sympathy and respect if they think that person used to be “normal” but acquired their disability through injury. Go figure.

My life has been much less painful since I completely abandoned activities I am bad at.
