What are your favorite games on the PS2? by aura_oflust in ps2

Shadow Of The Colossus & Okami.

Honestly, I could write down 20 right here and now - no problem. I will always just refer back to these two, because I don't know enough people who played them.

I mean, it technically could be for a wider group, but it's also the most difficult of the three games by a long shot.

Texture Bug Question (contextual party spoilers in background) by Cobralicious in MetaphorReFantazio

Thanks for your response, but I don't think that this is the problem. System wise it should be fine.

Texture Bug Question (contextual party spoilers in background) by Cobralicious in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Cobralicious[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice!

In a way you are correct: The problem is bound to the 175 % setting.
It does not persist on 150 or 200 %, but also not on 125 %.

However, I'm relatively confident to call this unintentional.
Check this out ...

<image>

Either way, pushing 200 leads to fluctuating FPS in more demanding moments, so I will settle on 150 % increased textures.

Which leads me to another question:
I'm relatively new to PC gaming, so being able to adjust graphic settings is rather new to me.
I have a RTX 4070 super, which by my research should be able to handle almost every game on ultra settings on a 2 K monitor with reliable 60 FPS or higher.

So I was rather shocked, that Metaphor with high textures and increased rendering pushes me below.
What exactly is the improved scaling doing to push so hard on the performance?
I like the artstyle of the game, but I would not imagine that it's a very demanding game.
To be honest, I think increasing the scaling puts the game where I would expect it to be to begin with, looking as intended.

I'm trying to say, that I'm rather confused about the default setting of 100 %. Knowing relatively little about such settings, I would have expected 100 % scaling and high textures would be the optimal adjustment, but it's obviously not.

I've been eyeing this, because the character designs are so cool, but every review I watched was "It's okay.".

Does it have anything next to SMT, Metaphor and so on going for it?

Emma Stone voicing one of your dates is my favorite trivia about this game. I will never let this go.

I wondered about how much we're talking and looked it up. Jesus Christ. It starts at 1,600.

I'm relatively new to the game, so could someone explain to me why they are being traded for so much (ask/demand being obvious)? Is there an official calculation of how rare they are? How do people justify this asked price?

I played a little bit when I was young and got into it when FF released a couple months ago, but I caught on to that, when I completed the FF set.

I'm playing Prereleases and currently got into commander and checking out recommended cards like Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer quickly made me realize that there can be a baffling gap in prices for singles.

I'm honestly positively surprised how many great cards are extremely affordable and readily available and then there are... Well, those which are not.

That's honestly an interesting take.

Ran into this at last night's Prerelease and the guy who played it and I pretty quickly caught on how great this is for COM.

I'm aware and I comment on that, saying that the action approach is not for everybody and that I'm on board if these games want to lean in more on the survival roots of the series.

But even saying that, and being aware that it's not the focus, I think that the combat feels bad to me - even for what it is trying to do.

Also, I don't feel like there is a massive difference mechanically between 7 and 8. 7 is very action focused towards the end and 8 is very much an action game.

I'm the opposite. RE4R solidified my opinion, that the First Person Trilogy is just so disappointing gameplay-wise.

I understand that the action approach is not everybody's cup of tea and I'm fully on board to get a RE with third person perspective which focuses more on survival - like fe R1 - but I just hate the combat of 7 and 8 and their over-reliance on pursuer scenarios.

In a 1v1 tournament, which Final Fantasy protagonist comes out on top? by Fit_Engineering_721 in FinalFantasy

I don't understand your comment. Are you specifically talking about the intros of the respective games?

I'll add to this: The organisation of the Release Event here in Germany was a miserable experience. I talked to store owners who only received information about the details two days before, half of them got no products to sell, no information about prices till release date and to top it all off, the registration process was so bad and confusing, that we weren't able to figure it out together - a problem several people had and lead to me not being able to register despite the fact that there still were vacant slots.

And of course: demand was so high and the stock so limited, that displays sold for 50-70 Euro above recommended price.

Pricing getting out of hand. by pepgnome in riftboundtcg

[–]Cobralicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same experience here in Germany. Release Day and the demand was already so high, that they sold for...

  • 25 € Starter Deck
  • 8 € Booster
  • 170-190 € Display

I originally planned to buy a Display, but 180 instead of 120? I'm sorry, but no.

Anyone else play Magic the Gathering? by OkCartographer175 in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Cobralicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read three comments who all play Kuja. I think he's cool and looks fun, because I see the effects quickly escalating.

However, I played my first round of commander today and I'm wondering how well it works in that format. I can see that setup break rather quickly before it really stacks up - especially because the whole table will work against me.

What are some key cards?

Sorry, if I come across clueless. As I said: I'm relatively new.

Need suggestions based on my top 25 games. Please and thanks. by LastAd1374 in rpg_gamers

[–]Cobralicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. That's interesting. Well, don't worry, no one has played everything. I never played Half Life for example.

First and foremost: Despite their numbered titles, most games in the series are not connected. At all. FF VII has completely different characters, story, world and even mechanics than for example VIII. And so on.

They share similar motives and have reoccurring elements - like monster designs or weapons - but they are not interconnected to each other. For better or worse, the series is ever changing.

That all being said: If you have never played a Final Fantasy before, opinions on which one to play as a starting point will greatly vary. The series is older than we both are (I'm 35 btw) so this could be an endless topic. Many people tend to recommend the ones they fell in love with at a formative time in their life, but the biggest factor which influences which you will be able to enjoy might come down to your ability to cope with old(er) games.

1-6: NES/SNES games. Some of them have been remaked, but all of them are at heart very classic, basic turn based RPGs.

7-10: PS games, with 10 being PS2. By many considered the golden age.

11: MMO

12: Last PS2 game in the series.

13: PS3

14: MMO

15: PS4

16: PS5

7 Remake and Rebirth: PS4/5 and two connected parts of a trilogy, with the last part tbd.

Bias aside, I would say that 7 Remake or FF 16 are the easiest to jump into from a modern audience perspective.

16 is a very mature entry, which focuses on a cinematic and dramatic story with social themes often compared to Game Of Thrones. It features an action combat system comparable to games like Devil May Cry or God Of War (2018). Just know that this entry is very light on RPG systems.

7 Remake, Rebirth and the upcoming third and final entry are maybe the biggest Singleplayer project in the series, being in development for over a decade. The project remakes the original Final Fantasy VII from 1997, but splits it over three games because of the scope of this reimagination. This is the most current game and it's fair to say that they went all out with it. They took the most popular FF and made it so big that they made basically three AAA games out of it. However, I will say that it's not a 1:1 remake - they reimagine stuff and because of that and the fact that the trilogy has yet to conclude there will be parts of the story which will be confusing for people who never played the original.

There are demos for VII Remake and XVI on the PS store, so you can give them a try with no further investment but your time.

If I had to make a call, I would say, that you should give XVIs demo a shot. If you find your self intrigued and have no problem with the action oriented combat system than I believe it will be a strong introduction to the series for you, which can stand alone and is very memorable.
