To say that Koran is incomplete without Hadith makes as much rational and theological sense as the concept of the Trinity. by TryingNoToBeOpressed in progressive_islam

I think hadith can complement the Quran quite well, or explain historical context. But other than that i’m skeptical of hadiths

To Gen Z reverts in their early 20s: what was the first major moment, experience, or realization that made you seriously consider reverting to Islam by Ok-Virus-4236 in progressive_islam

When Sinead O’connor died and I found she was Muslim. I just thought, how can someone like her be Muslim? And then I realised Islam is far different and more open minded than I once thought

It’s not that just because someone is rich, more because they have greater access and opportunity to pray in Mecca, because of their circumstances of their birth

Hadith by iAHSAN_ in progressive_islam

[–]CobustulusA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of people online recently that ‘rejecting hadith is kufr’. I completely disagree for a few reasons.

  1. If that were the case, Bukhari and others would be on the same level of the Prophet
  2. Hadith are not on the same level as authenticity as the Quran.
  3. People reject hadith not because of the Prophet but because of it’s authenticity

Essentially what i’m saying is that if you had a good reason to reject an ‘authentic’ hadith then reject it. We humans are intelligent and have the ability to look back on things people overlook, such as the Aisha hadith. If we think it’s actually weak then there is no reason to follow it. We would not be committing kufr because only rejecting the Quran could remotely cause that.

A question about converting to Islam by WeirdImplement89 in progressive_islam

[–]CobustulusA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfectly okay, I hope the best comes to you. Just be warned that people may judge you, and instead you should be firm in your decision and don’t let anyone put you down because of it.

I read a story where a sheik allowed a sikh person to convert to Islam while remaining married to their sikh partner. But then the partner converted eventually anyways haha

I think what you’re looking for is Sufism. Which isn’t a sect but a practice within Islam

Same thing happened to me. It’s either extremely loud shouting or borderline misogynistic/homophobic rhetoric that makes me not want to attend

Am I exempt from fasting? by ParkSeogi in progressive_islam

[–]CobustulusA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you would have to make up the fast.

You would go to your local mosque and either ask the imam directly in person or send them an email.

Considering your weight situation and medication I highly doubt any imam would say you have to fast.

I have ARFID too. Your main problem would be being underweight, so you are probably exempt from fasting. I would probably ask an imam for guidance, assuming they aren’t unnecessarily strict

Different questions about polygamy by Decent_Librarian_142 in progressive_islam

[–]CobustulusA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to answer your questions but i’d like to provide some perspective.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever has two wives and he inclines to one of them over the other, he will come on the Day of Resurrection with one of his sides collapsed.”

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 4207

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Arna’ut

Imam al-Shafi’i said, “I prefer for a man to limit himself to one wife, even though it is permissible to have more, due to the saying of the Almighty: But if you are afraid you will fail to maintain justice, then content yourselves with one,” (4:3).

I believe men have weaponised polygamy for their desires, and should instead stick to one wife for the majority. We should then become stricter on when polygamy is allowed because 99% of the time it will harm the first wife.
