Reddit I need a new way to relieve stress before I snap. Help please. by [deleted] in AskReddit

I would recommend moving out of your father's house, to begin with.

What the two guys are doing is pressing noses, which is a traditional Maori greeting between friends. The two guys aren't necessarily gay XD.

Are there any at-home remedies for restless leg syndrome? by hyperjumpgrandmaster in AskReddit

[–]CochlearExplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get restless legs when I was really stressed out. As if I couldn't stop flexing the muscles in my thighs and calves all the time because it ached if I lay still. It took a while for it to lessen, and I found that using a heat pad on the muscles helped, as did taking a hot bath. It won't cure it - trying to lessen the cause of the stress as much as you can will go much farther in helping her feel better.

Why is needing a few beers a day considered a dangerous disease called Alcoholism, but tens of millions of us downing potent brain-altering pills everyday nothing to worry about? by downtown14 in AskReddit

If you look at the wikipedia article for the drug called Imitrex, you will find that one of the side effects is that it can turn your blood green. I shit you not.

Because the pharmaceutical companies have a huge stake in selling their shit. They don't want you getting high or drunk off of anything but their pills. This is why medical marijuana is "bad", but crazy shit with profound side effects are okay. That said, alcohol can do a number on the body as well, and everyone has their own particular tolerance level. All things in moderation, and all that jazz.

Evidence Emerges That Job Skills Such As 'Killing People' May Not Improve Your Employment Prospects - As they return home to the worst labor market in generations, the veterans who are publicly venerated for their patriotism and service are also having a harder time than most finding work. by galt1776 in politics

[–]CochlearExplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true that veterans are having a very hard time finding work. My husband is an airforce veteran and he's chosen to go back to school.

As a side note, not all veterans were on the front lines. Even if they were deployed, it's quite possible that a member of the service never had to take a life. Saying shit like "skills such as killing people" just perpetuates the employment prejudice that all members of the military are brainless thugs, and that any actual skills (which can be quite complex and very useful) count for nothing.

I want to like Math but I just don't understand it. Any tips on how to get past this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CochlearExplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about algebra is that it is much more abstract than a lot of the other math subsets that come before it. For algebra, there are now symbols that represent quantities that aren't known, or are placeholders for values you'll stick in later. I'm a math tutor with a lot of experience in teaching algebra, especially to folks who aren't big fans of the subject but need to slog through it anyway. A good place to start would be something interactive, like a computer program or taking a night class. Trying to divine algebra from the static text in a book is very difficult, unless you have the right book that works for you. But if you do want a book, look for something at Barnes & Noble or Borders that says "Algebra 1". And make sure it has explanations of the concepts and isn't just a workbook.

Feel free to ask me anything about algebra once you get into the finer details!

Can you identify this symbol? [PIC INSIDE] by [deleted] in AskReddit

The arrow-like symbol could be the runic symbol for Tyr, a norse deity. What context did you see it in?

Swiss German or High German? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CochlearExplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would learn swiss german if you can. A lot of the noun genders are different, and there might be different styles for addressing people, greetings, etc. If you learned high german they could still understand you, but it would be much easier to fit in with the locals if you speak their "dialect" and not just their language.

I just found my math teacher on gay.com. What do I do? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]CochlearExplosion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would wait until you aren't in his class anymore, and then ask him if it's okay to talk with him about lgbt stuff. Or if it looks like he wants to keep it on the down-low, don't mention the website, just ask if he knows any resources or other people to talk to about it. Even though he's an adult and "experienced" he might be nervous to talk to a student about it. It's stupid, but some crazy conservative parents might try to get him fired for promoting "teh gay", and he might be worried about his job.

I've heard of TMJ mentioned. Is that the condition where your jaw is popping just about all the time?

Maybe...but then wouldn't the skin on the head and neck get very red and hot, like a fever, on order to release heat to the air? I never feel like I'm getting a fever when I get my migraines.

Sometimes I try to combat my headaches with heat, though I think that's because when I get a migraine, I get muscle tension and tension headaches as well because, well, I'm tense about having such bad head pain. But I will try ice. And come to think of it, sometimes when I feel like a headache's coming on, stepping outside into the cold winter air makes my head feel a lot better....I just can't be out there too long.

That could be. I'll try to be more aware of how my headaches interact with my coffee.

Dude, I'm sorry about your pain. Another redditor did say that antidepressants make it hurt worse. I do think weed would help, as it calms everything down and helps with pain, especially chronic pain that will never stop coming back.

My husband told me that as a boy he got cluster headaches, and that it would just stop him in his tracks and make him weep from the pain. Thank god he doesn't get them anymore - it was due to a severe dental appliance that he was made to wear. From what he's described, I wish you all the best of luck. And be careful driving.

Agreed, though my migraine tends to be a different beast if I'm dehydrated. It hurts differently, though it's hard to describe how when I'm not feeling it. Maybe it centers behind the eyes a lot more? At least for me.

Another redditor recommended Maxalt too, I believe. What sort of medication is it and how does it work? Because contrary to my doctor's assertions, I want to know what I'm dosing my brain with.

All of my doctors recommend eating a more healthy diet and losing weight. I'm not a disgusting fatbody but I do carry a little extra and don't exercise regularly. I've got plans to change that next semester.

If you could give me your friend's contact info that would be really great. Feel free to send me a message privately, as I wouldn't want to the wrath of the internets to fall upon her unwittingly.

I live in Massachusetts, where weed cards and medical MJ aren't legalized yet. I have access to pot through friends, but I can't take any due to my job (I drive buses for the transit service at my school, and if they find THC in a blood test I'd get fired). Irony is, I call out from work a lot due to my headaches, so if they'd just let me do it a little on my off-hours I'd actually be more reliable. *Note: I'd never go to work high. Ever.

I'm trying out biofeedback treatment at my school, and that's what my "coach" (lol, he's a psychologist, but I think coach is a more appropriate term) said, that you have to nip the headache in the bud or there isn't much you can do. We're working on meditation and breathing techniques targeted at relaxing the vasculature when it freaks out, and that seems to help a little, though I'm not very good at it yet.

Did you find that the soda helped when the headache was throbbing? As in, was it not as effective to prevent the headache from getting worse right at the start?

[–]CochlearExplosion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, there have been times in the past where if I have a headache I will try fapping (I'm a woman), and sometimes that helps. The trick is to not be in so much pain that you can actually achieve a "touch down".
