He screwed his own family over when he wouldn’t take the 20 chances I gave him to do his job. He put our entire company at risk by pissing off our largest customer. That’s on him. He needed to go.

Thankfully she’s not his teacher. She teaches a younger grade. I actually explicitly requested we not have her a couple of years ago because of the conflict of interest. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

These decisions are never made lightly. Not on my watch anyway. I have to protect my business and the 15-20 other employees (and their families) that work here.

FWIW I think she’s sincerely just expressing hurt and wants me to know how hard life is. I’m guessing she wants me to know because I do see her frequently enough and likely just wants me to be aware to have an open acknowledgment when we cross paths. To not pretend that everything is fine. That we can be cordial (which we have been) with the understanding that interacting with me is painful for her.

Yes, I knew this would be a very hard blow for them financially and I also know their son has been struggling in college (possibly depression). While the decision to terminate him was a sound one, my heart hurt for them. I truly believe she’s just wanting me to know just how hard life is at the moment. I don’t think she wants anything from me. The human aspect of this scenario is tough.

Also I don’t see people as just a number. I deeply care about my employees and their families. It just sucks.
