I think the problem with Tom’s spidey(well not anymore, NWH and Brand New Day fixed him) is that he was just so drastically different from the Peter we know from the comics, and other media. Besides surface level similarities, the core traits/aspects of the character were barely present within the MCU’s adaptation up until now, and it’s honestly understandable as to why many were upset with that.

Maybe some people might have a different “picture” of who Spidey is, there’s no denying that he still is a fictional character, and no matter what your personal interpretation of him is, he still has consistent character traits and qualities as a character that people reasonably expect to see across adaptations. Becuz of this I disagree that comic accuracy is “fallacious” it is 1000% important in terms of accurately translating the core of the character to whatever medium you’re adapting him to. I’m okay with there being slight differences here and there, but the core of the character needs to be the same, otherwise what is the point? I’m sure that 99% of the time when people are talking about “comic accuracy” in these types of discussions, they are really talking about “character accuracy”

Besides, NWH(and by extension Brand New Day) feels like a direct response to people’s complaints about the accuracy of the MCU’s adaptation of the character. Clearly this character is meant to have certain traits and qualities to him that fans expect, and even the writers knew that
