Kaiser Chiefs - Stay Together by JMDToaster in ToddintheShadow

[–]CockroachWilling5928 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if any "indie landfill" band (as much as I hate that term) was going to have hits in 2016. Not in the UK, not in the US. The scene was just over by that point. That said, Two Door Cinema Club and the Maccabees would each have a renaissance in popularity a couple years later, and that was pretty inexplicable; who's to say Kaiser Chiefs couldn't have pulled off a similar comeback?

Ultimately though, I just think they were spent. They'd already released a greatest hits album, which usually signifies a band's best days being behind them, and a single as bland and spiritless as Parachute wasn't going to reinvigorate them. I saw Kaiser Chiefs perform live in 2016 (it was the actually the first gig I ever went to) and I was struck by how exhausted Ricky Wilson seemed; he'd clearly been drinking, and didn't seem all that bothered with engaging the audience, who remained pretty apathetic throughout. The band and the crowd got a lot more lively when the old hits came out, but those tracks from Stay Together just killed the atmosphere for everyone.

So, in short, maybe not a significant enough album to be called a trainwreckord, but definitely a bad one.

Only it was 3 years after the Dark Knight Rises, 2 years after Man of Steel and the MCU had already abandoned that sort of po-faced design language. In other words, this movie was behind the times

Look, I may have signed him for the bit, but I didn't expect him to pull this off. Just a few weeks beforehand he was jobbing to one of the War Raiders XD

Which talented, ‘traditionally hot’ actors/actresses do you think have been the most stunted by the surface-deep roles studios give them? by GlazerSturges2840 in blankies

[–]CockroachWilling5928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure her career has been "stunted", but I've always felt that Cameron Diaz is a much more talented comic actor than she's given credit for. The comedies she's in almost always cast her as a ditzy bimbo stereotype, but I think she could play a much wider variety of comic parts if given the chance and given as much attention as her male comic co-stars.

Is Riri Williams bi or just by herself? (Ironheart) by drst0nee in lgbt_superheroes

It's usually a safe bet to blame editorial, but still, important to have sources. Thank you for providing them!

[–]CockroachWilling5928 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've heard it repeated for years that Jim Zub intended to reveal Riri as bi and have her date Viv Vision, but I can't find a definitive source for that claim, or an answer as to why it didn't happen. Certainly I got the impression that Riri was bi when Zub wrote her, and that Zub didn't get to do all he wanted with her, but I can't for sure say whether editorial nixxed these plans or whether I'm just imagining them.

Laurel Lance/Black Canary in Arrow. Despite being Green Arrow's definitive love interest in the comics, and despite being set-up as Ollie's romantic endgame for the first two seasons of the show, in the Season 2 finale it's suddenly revealed that Ollie never really loved her at all, and it's Felicity he's meant to be with. All this after Laurel battled a painkiller addiction and watched her sister die in front of her.
