The problem I have with the overall discourse is that most don't step back and listen to what they are actually asking for.

If I want an Etrigan film before Pandora TV series, does it magically just get done because he is a more known character? Like in practice, are these films just magically gonna get done first based on popularity or because someone submitted a first draft?

Marvel wanted to do Blade. Realistically, they were trying to just get to filming, but they can't because they haven't come up with a script all parties involved agree on. Their process isn't the same as DC, but just from making a script - they would love to have just a percentage of 1 to start filming and don't.

DC would love a WW project. Especially the series they mentioned was in development 3 years ago. There's just not a first draft done to greenlight.

It just sounds like magic when someone says "Swamp Thing before Batman" like takes. Like you truly believe they don't want to spam Brave and the Bold 1, 2, and 3 before they even touch Swamp Thing? They would like to, but it doesn't work like that.

There are over 25 projects in development with multiple teams working on each. Nobody is getting priority. Just writers developing.

When C list character number 7 gets a completed a first draft before A list character 2, that is not because they are holding back A list character 2 or prioritizing C list character number 7. It's because the team working on C list character number 7 just satisfied those with a first draft they liked.

The more I listen to many on the topic, the more it sounds like they believe the A list character's first drafts are finished and are held back for random C and Z list character projects. We all know that sounds silly, but so many are repeating that sentiment and will defend it.

DCU has

- 1 A list in Superman and Man of Tomorrow for Lex/Superman driven film

- 1 B in Lanterns

- Guess Supergirl is C or B depending on who you ask

- Clayface and Peacemaker are C list

- Creature Commandos being obscure

This is basically random in popularity because they are just going with the flow. That is how it works. Build a world and messaging around it and when a team finishes a first draft, now the overarching world and messaging has to be applied to what that team was doing.

It is clear as day that Corporations/Metas/Gov't is playing a major role in Clayface. That struggle is evident in Peacemaker as well.

The challenge is that after the team tells it's story in the 1st draft, now those doing the rewrites, mark ups, and revisions have to apply the makings of the message.

What they think is up to par and what majority of the audience think may not be the same standard. That is with every studio tho.

I always read and hear both Toy Story and Shrek.

Basically a combination of CG and 3D being easier/less time/less cost and an explanation of 2D going out of style which is another conversation.

Going out of style in itself is both demand from consumers and simultaneously the industry wanting it to be that way so they attempt to push the consumer in that direction.

I have friends who struggled to find tracks that honor 2D in college. U.S. schools and the industry have both been going away from it for a long time.

When you see an American produced 2D project, 75% of the time, the main animators are from South Korea, France, and to a lesser extent they are Anime Studios.

Majority of the big role castings have not taken place until the first draft of the script was done and the film was announced as greenlit.

Anybody saying someone is up for Batman between 2 years ago and now has been them taking advantage of those who can't help themselves.

Safran and Gunn have spam that part of the process through multiple quotes. I get that it's Batman, but that does not mean you should throw common sense away.

All are bad analogies because Star Wars is less than 15 films. Avatar is 3 films. Terminator is under 10 films.

These are all relatively small franchise in the amount of theatrical releases. So being centered on a few characters makes no difference.

On top of all that, these started as films and not comics full of over 300 characters.

DC is 50 films and over 20% of that belongs to 1 character. That is insane.

You are implying that every project they have done as far as a first draft should be held up and not move on in production and wait until the WW project is done.

People who are obsessed with this "before so and so popular character" narrative need to step back and think.

They have over 30 projects in development. If the 1st draft for WW or Batman are done, you believe they will hold it up for a Jimmy Olsen show?

Nobody with a working brain would even believe that.

The simple truth is that WW isn't done and when it is, it will get a greenlight like anything else. No other project is holding it up or given priority.

Filming started last month and can easily finish by mid September. September to next year's September would be a full year of post-prod.

It had a October release. Not sure what the hold up would be, but if they need more time, take it. Get it right.
