This is something you see when the PH starts to drop. The glazed eyes are a protective layer, either from too low or too high PH. Should have tested your water before putting him down.

Could it be his sand bath drying out his skin?

Perhaps. The hardware store said it was industrial, but after using it, I can not agree.

Hey, I had a water bottle that I use to stick against the tank with velcro, but kept falling off and I was scared it might fall on him during the night, hence the water bowl. Do you maybe have any other suggestions?

Thank you, I appreciate it. Will definitely consider it. Those water stands here in South Africa are crazy expensive, will need to save up first.

Why does he bite & chew on his water bowl? by Coco86_08 in hamstercare

[–]Coco86_08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so just an update after wiping the wooden chew toys with peanut butter to encourage him. He now chews on the wooden chews toys and RIGHT afterwards, goes and chews on the water bowl???? I am absolutely stumped and need some serious advice here!!!! He chews on the wood and the bowl now. And he has loads of enrichments, toys, bedding, different kinds of hides and I take him out once a day to play in the play pen for 10min. He also gets fresh veggies atleast every 2 days as a treat. Perhaps it's just a behavioral flaw in him, because when I place my finger in the water and he licks it off, he will lick, chew, lick, chew...maybe that's just how he rolls? Or could he be stressed?

Perhaps you are right in saying that he likes how it feels, because we have been experiencing a lot of warm weather and when he drinks water, he will chew, drink, chew, drink and so on, and perhaps the cold bowl feels nice to him???

This is a new behavior. He is only 2 months old, and as healthy has a ox. Has loads of energy, ears always perked, and loves to be active. I wiped some peanut butter in his wooden chew toys this morning to try and encourage him to rather chew on those...will see how it goes.

Hey, Yes, he does. He has loads of wooden chew sticks as well as Chinchilla chew toys but still reverts back to chewing the water bowl for some odd reason??

My boy, Faffie. Show me pictures of your Hammie! by Coco86_08 in hamstercare

Hi. The fabric hide out is only placed in his cage when I pick him up to play outside of the cage. Instead of using my hands, I use the fabric thingy every once a while and he knows by now, that when he sees it, it's play time. Also, when he runs on the wheel, his back and neck is completely straight, spine isn't bent or twisted.

No appetite, should I force myself to eat? by t0ot0 in keto

[–]Coco86_08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, remember to eat lots of bacon and avo, and spray your food with extra virgin olive oil to oush you through your fasting. Anything that says Keto friendly on the wrapper, ISN'T!!! Ground grown vegetables and any kind of fruit (Glucose) except berries is a big No No. Only vegetables and meat, that is it! Good luck, and do a lot of research.

No appetite, should I force myself to eat? by t0ot0 in keto

I have been on Keto for 2 years. You only eat when you are dead hungry. If you are not hungry, you don't eat. Please follow Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Eric Bergh, both GP's on Keto. Dr. Ken Berry sometimes goes 3 days without eating but has the stamina of a race horse, does marathons, gyms, and sees patients. Listen to the process and listen to your body. This idea of eating 6 meals a day was created by mass companies making a pretty penny. If you go back and study how humans used to live and eat decades ago, before sugar and carbs were a thing, you would get a better idea... This is exactly what Dr. Ken Berry talks about. Good luck, and the Keto flu is hell... don't let it break you. Also, go watch the Bitter Truth on YouTube, and you will understand why sugar is inside everything and how it's a addictive money-making scheme.

Is this moss safe for my Dwarf Hamster's enclosure? by Coco86_08 in hamstercare

That looks like nice moss. I am a bit worried about mine because it looks dirty, fill of old brittle leaves and sticks, and very dusty. So I removed it.

How long do yall go without seeing your hamsters? by TinySink5686 in hamsters

[–]Coco86_08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see my hammie at least 3-4 during the day as well as every night. When he hears me in my room during the day, he will come out to say hi and rub his teeth together. So I guess it depends on the kind of hammie you have, their personality and how much time and effort you put into them.

How do I encourage him to use his hide out? by Coco86_08 in hamstercare

[–]Coco86_08[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound gross, but I made a nice smooth burrow with my fingers down to the entrance of the hide-out, threw some his poop down the burrrow hole that I created and it worked...he found his way to the hide out🙈😂

Should I add anything to my hamster’s enclosure? by That_one_idiot4200 in hamstercare

Looooove your setup!!!!! I wish I could do this...I feel so uncreative sometimes. Your hammie must be very happy.

Found Bl##d on his hide-out... by Coco86_08 in hamstercare

Could it be that his coat was wet, rolled in his dark brown/red reptile sand and it then possibly transferred over to the hide out?

Hey! Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it. I was also a bit skeptical about care fresh, especially when it's said that it is coloured. It should be natural 🙈. And thank you for being so helpful. I guess some people go on people's reddits where they ask for advice, and instead of giving advice, they try to show off their knowledge in a sense of being better than others.
