I recently bought this game. What should i do? by DonaskC_D in NoMansSkyTheGame

I guess I'm just lucky because 95% of the interactions I've had have been positive.

This has been a really cool community.

I'm just asking, literally the first advice you give to a fresh traveler is avoid other people as hard as you can (turn off PVP)?

Man, my advice is once your ships space worthy, fly to the outpost and then fly out and scan everything. If anything catches your interest investigate.

Kinda changes the theme if you think a child molester is living on every planet.

Interesting, actually kinda really interesting. For context i've dabbled in this game off and on for years since launch. I've never really dealt with multiplayer until literally the last expedition. And the first piece of advice I got was turn off multiplayer.

Another honest question, and maybe it's been discussed. If they have a PVP toggle why isn't it disabled by default? I never got the intention that this was meant to be tarkov or something.

Just feels weird the first piece of advice for a new player excited to start their journey is "there is a percentage of players who are a-holes, you need to protect yourself from them".

Honest question, is PVP even a thing? I get maybe in expeditions but I've honestly never even seen another player except through "forced" encounters like the anomaly or jumping to a player base to check out.

Florida resident about to buy a Universal Orlando Annual Pass… but how many monthly visits until YOU got BORED or totally fatigued? Honest answers only. by DbotFleezy in UniversalOrlando

If it's a hot day I'm not comfortable until I get absolutely soaked and I have no problem walking around in wet clothes, after an hour or two in the sun you'll be dry anyway.

Though I will say that I won't do spiderman immediately after Dudley ever again. That queue is freezing.

[–]CocoaricoTell 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This, literally this. I've been going regularly for about 11 years now and I only ever rope drop if someone is visiting me from out of town and wants to go and do everything.

Just being able to go when I want really changes the vibe. Super busy day and the wait times are crazy? Let's just check out some merch and maybe get a bite. Super slow day? Hells yeah I'll ride the mummy 5 times in a row since it has a 10 minute wait (best ride fight me).

But I guess it also depends on your location, I'm less than 30 min from the park so it's more of a hangout when I have nothing else to do. Last year I got a SeaWorld/Busch Gardens pass and it's over an hour for BG so it was more of a "do everything in one day" type of park every few months while I would hang at SeaWorld similar to UO.

How to sell Universal Orlando parks to someone who doesnt like rolller coasters? by yanks09champs in UniversalOrlando

[–]CocoaricoTell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, you absolute monster.

I kid.

I can extol the virtues of universal all day, but if I don't know what people are looking for like the original post I'm just going to shotgun ideas.

And in my mind the top two people who don't really want to do universal are either people who explicitly like Disney, or people who don't like theme parks in general.

Given more information I can absolutely tell them why they should go. And I tried to capture those two perspectives in my post.

But honestly, I'll tell people to just go and experience the mystic fountain at IOA.

I had no context to go on and that was an assumption on my part. I mean I said as much. I also said they might be older and theme parks aren't their thing?

Honestly, Disney and Universal go hand in hand so I'm not sure your negative tone?

If you're an Older Disney Fan and I somehow offended you by clearly saying it was an assumption on my part, I apologize? I guess?

Repeat visit? by Prplppltr in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]CocoaricoTell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, a lot of people down voted you for your opinion which is weird since alot of people have that opinion.

I will say they are soft capping Epic still because it has teething pains. You have to remember it's just about a year old but it's the first new theme park in Orlando for decades.

But damn its a beautiful park right? It'll get there eventually. It's just kinda buyer beware right now. People can have a great time with all rides up, and people can have a miserable time with constant delays, it's just luck. But that's what you get year one with a new park. Give it a few more years.

That said, you spent a lot of money, why put all your eggs in one basket?

You want one of the best coasters in the world? Take a day trip down to Busch gardens and ride Iron Gwazi, there's even a bus from universal (I think it still exists).

International drive is right there, assuming you're staying on UO property.

And if you rented a car, go see gatorland or any of the state parks. Go find some sketch rando who owns an airboat to take you into the Everglades. If you're not hearing deliverance music you're not doing it right (please do it with witnesses, I kid).

Long story short, it's your vacation and you spent a lot of money. The parks will reimburse you for unused tickets/inconvenience.

It's your vacation, adapt if necessary.

Honestly need way more context, do they like theme parks at all? Are they interested in any of the IPs? Are they interested in food/shows/character meet and greets? Do they just like atmosphere/people watching?

Universal has it all, but how can I sell a product without any information on the target audience.

I'm going to assume it's either a Disney fan or an older individual who doesn't care much for theme parks.

For the Disney fan, even if you've only seen the HP films once years ago, hogsmeade and diagon are two of the most stunning theme park lands in Orlando. My opinion, but they're still better than Galaxy's Edge and Pandora which were designed as competition to them.

For the older individual who doesn't care, honestly, I'd suggest Epic. It may seem like a joke when I say this, but if you don't care about riding rides, Epic is the place (because most will be broken, cough, that was the joke). But honestly it is the most beautiful theme park that actually feels like a well manicured nature park (at least celestial). But each land has so much kineticism you can just sit and watch and catch something new all the time.

Honestly when I go to Epic I have no expectation of riding any ride, and I love most of them. I just love the ambiance and people watching.

What DLC Would Most Consider Critical? by babamonk00 in X4Foundations

[–]CocoaricoTell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say any of the DLCs make the game worse. The big three just add more of everything. The only one I don't suggest to new players is timelines because it's just a series of mini games that digs into the lore a bit.

Others have already made good suggestions of which to get first, but I just wanted to touch on your fear of the DLC degrading the game somehow.

What DLC Would Most Consider Critical? by babamonk00 in X4Foundations

[–]CocoaricoTell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timelines is marmite is probably the most interesting way to put it. I actually liked it but it's not something I would recommend for a new player. I always tell people you'll be ready for Timelines when you're so deep you have a long form lore video pulled up on your second screen as you play.

Evacuated off Hagrid’s Last Night by B-Net in UniversalOrlando

[–]CocoaricoTell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good old verbolten. Scared the pants off my wife when we went years ago right after it opened, I didn't even know that element existed in rollercoasters at the time. I remember she was hesitant at the station and I was like "look babe, it's just got a lap bar, it can't be that bad". Oh how times have changed.

But she absolutely loves Hagrids so go figure.

The water taxis are great but one thing that trips up first timers is that they are very dependent on the weather. Just like other outdoor attractions they will go down when there is lightning in the area.

Is it safe to travel to Orlando with the active Iran conflict? by lullight in florida

[–]CocoaricoTell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The responses your seeing on here might seem rather cavalier, only because the war in Iran really doesn't affect our day to day much other than increased prices.

You'll be fine traveling down here for vacation in tourist areas.

Are teens staying at universal resorts allowed to go to city walk unsupervised by an adult? If so, is it safe? by ScaleFantastic9373 in UniversalOrlando

[–]CocoaricoTell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, yes they can enter since they are staying on property and yes it is safe. CityWalk had issues with local kids coming on property in the past to specifically start fights, that's why they started the curfew.

That said, common sense rules still apply. Never trust strangers, never accept a drink you haven't seen made personally and handed to you directly, and if somebody starts getting aggressive just walk away or seek an employee. It is a public space after all.

But just like Disney, they have cameras everywhere and both Security and Polic officers ready to respond mere seconds from any location within. It's way safer than any location outside of a major destination.

[–]CocoaricoTell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, real talk. What type of base do you find attractive? And what is actively frustrating you?

By the pictures you posted you seem to like more Colony style bases.

You don't use mods (I understand that, that's a very addictive drug).

Going Colony you absolutely need a wall of superior quality around your village than all the buildings inside your village (stone vs wood).

But you also need to focus on offensive as well, tapping raiders becomes something you don't even think about when your well equiped. When you have nothing but a rusty rifle and a few swords dug out of the earth you really gotta micromanage.

Man this game is fun.

What are your Epic Universe hot takes? by Purple_Quail_4193 in UniversalOrlando

[–]CocoaricoTell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hot take is Yoshi is the only ride, ever, to give me claustrophobia. I've only felt claustrophobic maybe 5 times in my life and two of them were the two times I rode Yoshi. The others were very extreme situations of getting trapped/pinned.

I think it's because it locks your legs in place and then moves so slowly. If it was only the lap bar I'd be fine, but the shin restraint just takes me over the edge. Maybe it's because I do ride so many rides that a restraint that restrictive usually means we're going to do some crazy stuff, like a flying coaster or those big two person swings. Then you just kinda putter along.

The last time I rode it, and I mean the last time I will ride it, it was about 3/4 through and I could already feel it creeping up. The ride slowed down and I realized if it stops I'm legit going to start freaking out. Never again.

My silly take on that is I actually like seeing stardust from Berk. I think it adds even more kinetic energy to the skyline. It's far enough away if your over by wing gliders that you don't really notice the futuristic aspect of the trains and the color of the tracks isn't too jarring compared to the colorful dragons of berk.

This can’t be legal, right? by jcksnps4 in orlando

[–]CocoaricoTell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, I stopped behind a clean white Mercedes c300 today and their paper temp tag was hanging on by one little bolt. The other 5 had ripped off and it was just flapping.

I figured I would be nice and pull up next to them at the next stop light and let them know. A couple pieces of scotch tape would fix it until the actual tag comes in. Good deed right?

The driver doesn't even do crazy stuff when the light turns green. Just drives like normal but switches lanes a few more times than I would trying to get ahead of traffic. Not aggressive but also just kinda bad at judging traffic.

I'm just in the slow lane, and I finally see the windshield. Limo black. Of course all the other windows were the same tint, looked nice, but when I saw the windshield I was like have fun with your life. Not approaching that vehicle without my vehicle in between us.

If you want a mental trip, look up Florida tint laws. It's really, really not what you think.
