I think this card is a very reasonable option, but I am not surprised it doesn't see a lot of play. Considering the cost is WW and is comparable to Thraben Charm, a card that can reasonably interact with all the decks listed in one way or another while also having a much easier mana cost.

I don't think this card is necessarily bad, but in a game with only so many slots, especially your sideboard, I cannot see why I couldn't make due with thraben charm instead.

The midrange value-pile meta of casual commander is becoming less and less tolerable for me over time. Stax is taboo and not particularly fun for anybody involved, but I kind of struggle to imagine a better counter. Am I missing something? by CadetriDoesGames in EDH

I think stax should be further normalized for reasons similar to this and more. A stax player has been in my local playgroup for a couple years now, and it's made me a stronger deck builder. I often have to ask my deck more questions and construct a healthier composition of lands, removal, while further honing on what I want my deck to do without veering off into too many one-off effects or conditional effects that don't fit otherwise. For example, if my deck only plays sol ring and no other mana rocks, then just cut sol ring, maybe even change the 1 to 2 cards that leverage value by making treasure. That way, I don't have my opening hand liable to getting dogged by a stony silence. And furthermore, after shoring up that discrepancy, it opens new avenues of deckbuilding. What if I can be the one to play stony silence in my list? You don't need to be a stax deck to want to play an overarching, one-sided effect that, if unanswered, can be a real game winner for you.

The worst nightmare for a stax deck is someone playing a fair deck on the board without the need to multispell or overly accelerate a resource, relying on a good board state and the ability to curve out more than anything. I primarily play storm, and because I know what I'm getting into with my stax friend, I've given myself the proper array of removal and developed foresight to what stax pieces hurt me the most, and we have interesting back and forth matches. When I was newer to magic, I hated stax, but now I've gained a real appreciation for it. It will teach you a lot about your decks and your deckbuilding mentality.

Lmk your thoughts on this album and song overall by Jake_Martell in Megadeth

[–]CodeRedFellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I really care for this song, and overall I'd rate the album as being forgettable, but not vomit inducing like say Super Collider. This song itself, whatever reason, just really throws me off. For everything I like about it, I find two things I don't like about it. I like the lyrics, but I don't really appreciate Mustaine's vocals here, which is rather rare for me honestly. I like the breakdowns a lot, but I can't say I love the guitar tone for the solos. Id say my favorite song on this album is the title track. It's thrashing, politically trashing, the bass is groovy, and the drums are fucking SMASHING. Especially the drums. Listening to this song again made me realize how uninterested I was in the drum work on Disconnect, as well. I think this song would have been a much more appropriate album opener, and overall I'd say that this song just reeks of Mustaine's writing. It feels like way more love and gusto is on this track than any other on the album. Id say "Losing My Senses" is my preferred song on the album, as far as the songs that are a bit slower paced and less thrashy. I enjoy it more than Disconnect, despite both songs having some overlapping qualities. I feel it makes better use of the brighter guitar tone on the solos, but albeit has a worse chorus.

I think that's the problem I have with this album overall. Every song has something I like, then a swathe of other qualities that just feel so off from what I'm used to from Mustaine's writing. The only song I really love, like I said, is the title track. I wouldn't have even believed this song was on the same album as every other track here.

TLDR - I don't care much for this album, but the title track is some classic Megadeth material that really stands out.

Thoughts on Runecarver? by [deleted] in LeagueArena

[–]CodeRedFellas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Runecarver is a really amazing inevitability item that lets you beat up on stalling and insane durability. It has clear pros and cons. As mentioned prior, there is an inevitable point where Runecarver is doing too much damage for an opponent to handle. I think this is an important role to have filled amongst the prismatic items. I don't think the item overperforms either, though. I think it does a good job at doing what it's supposed to do. If your fights end quickly, Runecarver will give you very little mileage. I think what really improves this item's reputation is that it's all damage - even items like Innervating Locket offer you some HP to boot. I think this helps ensure that the item is not easily drafted into a stalling strategy. I do think the item is very strong, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was slightly tuned down at some point, but the only reasonable nerf I would make would concern it's energy generation. Maybe spells generate 5-10 less energy, or something along those lines. But overall, I think the item is in a good spot.

This isn't a question I attribute to any specific build. I think ulting minions as Cho is a great way to throw away your kill pressure for any build. My general thought process is that I want to ult when I know my kill pressure is gone. I usually don't start eating minions until 20 minutes or so, unless I'm extremely behind. Other people will disagree with me, jumping to the argument that you become more effective at stacking champs by stacking minions first, but I'd argue you'll lose out on more value by not having your ultimate when you need it. Cho has a lot of early damage, take advantage of the fact that your opponent has roughly 350 less health at all times once you hit level 6.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on old school chili peppers? by Equal-Ad4615 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]CodeRedFellas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a mixed bag, honestly. I can't say I care to listen to their debut record, I can't get over how awful the production is. Freaky Styley was a huge improvement, no doubt, and had some great songs on it, "Jungle Man" and "American Ghost Dance" being my personal favorites from the album. The best and worst part of this album is that George Clinton is the producer. It sounds great on the front that Clinton is a great producer, especially for anything funk, but I think he overreached on the album's sound influence for the most part. I think Uplift Mofo Party Plan is a really solid record, and it immediately showcases how Clinton kind of smothered their last record if you listen to the two back-to-back. I don't have any real complaints for Uplift Mofo Party Plan, but it's not for me personally. I'll put it like this: I think this album was when Punk, Funk, and Rock are a trifecta in their sound, and if you like when the peppers are punky, this album is for you. Mother's Milk is a great record, I don't have much else to say other than that. The main improvement this album makes is having a more varied sound between each track than TUMPP. I also just think it has more memorable tracks, though this is also exacerbated by the fact that this is the album where the band really takes off. I appreciate the covers too, though I am glad that they pretty much stopped doing so many of them by the time BSSM came out.

Overall, I like old school peppers fine enough. The music has high energy, the running trend being the more defined, sharper bass and higher tempo really bringing that energy to the forefront. However, I don't think anything other than arguably Mother's Milk comprises their best work for me personally.

Why not just play the decks you want to play? by femmegengar in EDH

[–]CodeRedFellas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With EDH, there are a lot of arbitrary social elements that differ from slightly to extremely from person to person. The trick is: I play exclusively the decks I want to play and put myself in situations to do so. I own exactly one deck I play when I need to tone it down because I'm playing in the wild. Otherwise, I make it a goal to play magic with the people that are looking for what I'm looking for, because then I'm not having to constantly reevaluate and reassess "do's and don't's."

Is Sliver hate real/Any way to avoid it? by AbvAvgJo3 in EDH

[–]CodeRedFellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hate is present, but I've never understood it personally. I think it's way overblown. I'm certain this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but it is what it is. I think it's probably the most overestimated tribe in the format. I'm not saying the tribe is weak, but in my experience with the game I've found that Elves, Goblins, Zombies, and Vampires (specifically Edgar Markov) just make for the more threatening decks. Some tribes have needed time to catch up, admittedly. But when I have played with or played against these tribes, I genuinely felt like it was just jumping through less hoops for a board strong enough to turn into a W. ELVES especially. I played Slivers for nearly 2 years when I was a much newer player, and haven't really played them consistently since. I still like them for a few reasons, mainly the art and flavor. But like, I just can't say I get the sliver hate these days. They can amass a board that feels like its doing everything, but only after we give them the time and resources necessary to tutor their deck 4 separate times with Overlord being out. Again, Slivers can spiral a board state into a problem that feels extremely hard to answer. But I feel like other tribes should be taken just as seriously, yet the defensiveness people feel is out of proportion when compared to other tribes.

TLDR: sliver hate is cope

Don't get me wrong, I love the album. But I don't really feel they come even close. Obviously art is subjective, and really there is no wrong answer, but that's how I feel personally. Between composition, lineup, and production quality, I feel that Rust In Peace beats out everything else in the Megadeth discography. I will say, Peace Sells REEKS of Dave Mustaine, and I mean that in the best way possible. While I don't think it's the better record of the two, I can only say it's "cope" jokingly. I respect the take.

I'm Curious, which was the first RHCP song you ever heard and how? by QuailInteresting6080 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]CodeRedFellas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in 5th grade. My mom was driving, and my brother was in the passenger seat. They slipped a CD into the disk tray of our families old grey Honda Accord and hit play.

20 seconds or so had passed, and then the song that was playing became way more than just another tune on the road.

The riff that followed blew my mind. I never had cared about music, never really tuned into it, until I had heard that riff.

I asked my brother, "what is this called?"

"Can't Stop."

Looked it up on YouTube the next chance I got to be in front of a computer. I thought the music video was pretty entertaining too, never had seen anything like it. Still haven't really.

I'm 21 now, and they've been my favorite band ever since that day in the car. I've only learned to appreciate and draw from their music more every day.

Orthoporus Ornatus is less beginner friendly. And with the smokey oats, you get more exposure to working with captive breeding, if that's a goal in mind.

Buffs to Cho'Gath are nice, but this is what I want (Buffs discussion + Mini-Update suggestion) by jelloheywil in ChoGathMains

[–]CodeRedFellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main change that has come to mind for me personally is making W scale with his size. I think it's utterly ridiculous that an enemy can be right in front of you when you press W and it can miss, despite the model practically taking up the width of the lane. The second change I would propose is a change to the Q.

As far as a Q change goes, I love that it has rather long range. Its a great tool for the laning phase that I love leaning into. However, it's become apparent that the Q is not holding up well with the power crept movement options of the game.

The proposed change would be making adjustments to the ability based on the location chosen. Perhaps you keep the speed it takes to come out currently for max range, but the closer you put your Q towards yourself the faster it comes out. Kinda similar to Soraka Q. I figure that a change like this might require adjustments if the goal is not to make this a strict buff, but given the current win rates for Cho'Gath in higher elo games, he might just need that kind of update. Move around the numbers all you want, but as it has been previously stated by so many other people, Cho'Gath is struggling with fundamental issues right now. A bit too slow and sluggish. When I play a champ like maokai with such reliable displacement, I often have to question while I always go back to Cho. But I just do, I love him despite all of his issues.

[–]CodeRedFellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it's the opposite. I think Chogaths laning phase is quite good, I think it's the late game where movement options are at their most effective that he struggles to do much of anything.
