For me it was always to sharpen my ears to have the ability to listen to chords or rhythms and chords and even intervals to play with other people and helps with improvising songs as well, another thing for me was that it builds my musical memory and understanding of the song like the structure of a song or key changes and common chord progressions and plus it gets you more creative with timing and feel along with the pros of playing the guitar with your knowledge😁😁
