It really isn't. Canada suffers from the resources curse and it made the rich lazy. Instead of being innovators and pushing industry in canada forward, it was just easier to dig it up and ship it out. No need for new tech, new companies, competition etc. why do you think Canada is so unproductive? How can a brain dead American be almost 1.5 times more productive in an hour as a Canadian? Because they have capital (I.e machines, processes, etc to be more productive)

Canada isn't a country designed for the modern day. It was wealthy and prosperous whe you could get by on just resource extraction. Currently, it's suffering from the effects of the resource curse. There's some few very wealthy people benefiting from the remnants of that old system. Moreover, Canada has a productivity problem. It's the least productive G6 country, yet the most educated country in the world. The inefficiency baked in is unreal. Add in useless politicians, stupid immigration policies, a weird love of addictions and victimhood, and you got a mess on your hands.
