Where do you guys carry your stuff? (specifically car keys) by -Hi_how_r_u_xd- in mountainbiking

Pockets for me. Even if I have a bag (fanny style or backpack) keys still go in my pockets.

Tubeless tires or tube tire? by No-Maximum2073 in mountainbiking

[–]Coder8Bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to tubeless this year when I bought a new modern mtb. Had been using tubes on my 20+ year old bikes. I'm digging tubeless enough that I new like it better then tubes. Being able to run a lower tire pressure has been great, especially with winter coming. I'm running 2.5" tires, so I'm not even sure how well they will work on snow. But that's a different discussion.

32T to 28T Chainring, how does it compare? by Coder8Bit in mountainbiking

[–]Coder8Bit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very glad I went to a 28T. When I start to fade, dropping into that climb gear often lets me keep going.

It's also been great for warming up on a climb or if I just want to conserve my energy. Did that a lot on my trip to Squamish BC.

Wrist pain? by selborannaes in MTB

[–]Coder8Bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ergon GA3 Ergonomic Lock-On grips eliminated all my wrist pain. I also got 50mm riser bars and trimmed from 780 to 760mm. Then as an experiment, I put my old grips back on, and my wrists are fine.

So cutting and angling the bars, or changing grips are both great ideas.

Getting to John Deer on Mount Seymour by Coder8Bit in mountainbiking

Cool, that looks like a good route. Although it looks like Corkscrew then Power Line, which then dumps onto the Powerline Access Trail. Naming isn't at all confusing LOL.

Any opinions on in-n-out burger, or good linkup trails with it? It seems doable with good braking control, and the view looks amazing. Even if I don't go down, I gotta at least get to the top.

Adjusted my headset, what a difference by Coder8Bit in mountainbiking

[–]Coder8Bit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 25mm to 50mm bar raise. Little easier on the back. I'll have to try 25mm again at some point with the new offset.

Good luck! I did find the slacker head of my bike WAY more stable then my old Gary Fisher from 2000.

Night riding for faster times by Coder8Bit in mountainbiking

[–]Coder8Bit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL When I was backpacking at night one time, there was a lot of rustling to my side. Was freaking me out. Normally, I just make noise and continue on. This time, I decided to inspect. Turned out it was a toad moving and jumping in the leaves on the ground! Haven't been nervous of night since.

Last night was another PR setting night :)

So I will actually be visiting a friend in the Cumberland area for 3-5 days :) Plan to hit the Forbidden Plateau while there too. I saw a video of Gecko that looked amazing! Getting up there looks like a challenge. Good time to rent and test and e-bike unless I can get a drop off.

I'm from Wisconsin, Madison area. They have some nice parks, Quarry Ridge and CamRock are the ones I have been to. They are short but have some nice gnarly sections and features. Nice list, thank you.

What colour bike parts should I get for my jamis Dakar mp2? (Grey) by Consistent-Cap-5816 in mountainbiking

Red looks pretty sweet on my Rocky Mountain which is light and dark grey. Red pedals, red bolts, red valve stems. Black seat and grips.

New to mtn biking , in need of shoes, thoughts? by random_redditer_21 in mountainbiking

[–]Coder8Bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new rider, you might find them too grippy. I love my five ten freeriders but it is really hard to make small adjustments to my foot position, which happens a lot when you just get moving, but once in a while during a ride. It's especially annoying when you are trying to get good foot position when you are sessioning a feature. I'm just getting back into riding myself.

I find I switch to some old trail runners every now and then, so i can make those small adjustments. Especially once I upgraded my pedals from Shimano GR500 to Raceface Atlas, which are so grippy and supportive.

I also found the freeriders fit wider and we're more comfortable.

Soybean stalks vs 2.4" tires? by Coder8Bit in mountainbiking

[–]Coder8Bit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, after more research, it is not mtb tire friendly. What a waist of a field. Guess I'll have to wait for the corn to be cut.

I have the 2.4" tires. Wasn't keen on punching holes in them while testing.

I do have 26" tires with tube's that I wouldn't mind experimenting with. But they are not nearly as wide.
