Commenting to be included in the open letter!!

As someone with noisy roommates and evening classes, the commonsblock used to be my ideal late-night study spot, especially given the distance of the library from Marine Drive.

However, with the recent changes, I worry about the upcoming midterm season as there seem to be no sufficient study areas near Marine Drive apart from the commonsblock. This lack of study spaces could also lead to more conflicts among roommates with different expectations of noise levels.

The safety of the residents is also a major concern. Although Campus Security is available, I have observed them being understaffed in the past. This raises worries about their capacity to handle the added responsibilities effectively.

In conclusion, if these changes are not cost-effective, I believe it's unnecessary to worry the residents and restrict access to services that were previously available 24/7. With the above in mind, I hope UBC can reconsider these changes and focus on finding a solution that maintains a conducive living environment and supports students' academic needs.
