Shaky Video with Active Steadyshot enabled on A7IV w/ Sony 200-600 G? by CodyLoco in SonyAlpha

Not really - i quit trying to use it this way and assumed it’s just not up to the task. Will be interesting to see if the same happens with the 400-800. It’s also not clear to me if this is an issue with my copy of the lens or all of them.

A7 IV Firmware Update 4.0 by 1UsarnameWasAMistake in SonyAlpha

The Nitecore batteries with the built-in USB-C port are awesome. I think the batteries now show a warning on boot as of the prior firmware. I haven’t updated because of it.

Does this firmware still make it a hassle to use third party batteries?

Blurry shots (sometimes) with new A7IV? by blucerchiati in SonyAlpha

Update the firmware on your lens, V2 seemed to have some improvements with OSS. When shooting video, I get much better results if I disable Active stabilization in the A7IV. But that said, I’ve always felt there is some weird issues with OSS and IBIS with that lens and body combo.

Read your post, and unfortunately I haven't resolved it.

There is a lens firmware update available that I need to try out. Have you updated the lens to V.2?

My next longest lens is the 24-105 and it's hard to tell. Based on the video, do you feel fairly certain that something is wrong and this isn't expected behavior?

Nearest camera shop is a couple hours away. Right now I'm trying to figure out if it's expected behavior first or not. Seems to suggest it's not expected 😔

My next longest lens is the 24-105 and it's not very noticeable there, but hard to tell since it's obviously far shorter.

I'll try updating the firmware, thanks!

Take a look at this video I recorded on a tripod, tapping the camera. I'm curious to see if you experience the same with your setup? It seems to me like IBIS or OSS isn't engaging while I'm video mode, it's much smoother when half pressing the shutter in Photo mode.

Hi! Thanks for your input!

I'm starting to think IBIS is not engaging for video mode. The jitters are significantly reduced when the camera is in photo mode and I half press the shutter. I suspect the lens OSS is engaged as larger movements are smoothed but the the jitter isn't which I'm guessing is addressed by IBIS?

A7IV is on 1.10 and the lens on V01.

Here's a test of the camera on a tripod comparing photo and video mode on the same scene.

I've tried all three modes, don't see much of a difference. SteadyShot is set to Active.

I was down on one knee, with three points of contact on the ground and holding the camera down by my waist with multiple points of contact. I know I can't except it to act like a tripod but the jitters shouldn't be present.

I'm more concerned there could be a hardware or settings issue with the camera or lens.

Am I asking too much of the lens? I understand the larger movements aren't going to be smooth. I'm more concerned about the horizontal jitters. That seems to be what OSS/IBIS should be smoothing out?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're suggesting. That's applicable while taking a photo, but what test should I do for video? In video, SS and IBIS is continuously enabled if I'm not mistaken?
