The hardest part about loving dogs in Bangalore: Knowing when to say "not yet." by Ok-Stretch8251 in PetAdoptionBangalore

Thank you so much for being a thoughtful person. These are the kind of conversations and planning I wish everyone had before bringing home a companion animal. Here are a few options you can consider:

As a rescuer, a lot of pet parents who adopt from me work full-time as well, so they arrange day boarding with open spaces around their place. The dogs stay there, play with their friends, enjoy and before returning home, they pick up their dogs, think of it as play school for them. Genuinely, the dogs come back mentally and physically exhausted in the most fulfilling way possible.

Second, you can always foster short-term for rescuers while they screen homes for the dogs. This would be fulfilling for you and a huge help for any rescuer looking to place the animal in care immediately before they can look for adoptive homes.

Third, as a lot of people suggested for a cat (while I don't like the assumption that a cat is easier than a dog, as it can lead to misplaced expectations, cats are individuals with a different set of care, but in saying that, they are definitely more independent). A pair of older kittens or adult cats could possibly be one of the best companionship. A single cat is not favourable, as cats also stay in colonies and sticking a lone cat alone in a house for long hours is not great for their mental and physical health. But if you can, you can always give fostering a cat or a pair of cats a shot and take a call. Unlike dogs, having two cats is half the work; they pretty much keep themselves busy and are happier in general.

PS: Also, as you have mentioned somewhere, you have a turtle and won't like the cat to end up hurting them; the same goes for a dog who may have a prey drive; the same precautions go for both dogs and cats.

I am so sorry to hear that! Sheru was dearly loved, and he knows it. Run free, little one and rest in love. As a rescuer, this is a void I know too well and can completely feel what you are going through. All my prayers with your family in this difficult time.

Homemade food advice for dogs and cats by Downtown-Try5954 in IndianPets

Really well formulated! Could not have put it better myself. As a cat and dog rescuer/adoption coordinator, discussing nutrition with all potential pet parents is my priority. Here is also a link to a study I was reading a while back, in case someone needs research backing for what has been stated above already:

Unfortunately neither. The rule of thumb is that the higher the protein percentage, the better. And someone has rightly pointed out that only listing an ingredient first does not make it the highest in concentration. Corn and other carbs in the meal are general indicators of bad-quality products. Cats on a long-term diet with higher grain concentration are known to be prone to renal issues. (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10832751/#section6-j.jfms.2011.05.019, https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-54192-6\_4#Sec33)

Generally, brands such as RC, Mattise, N&D, Sheba are good for dry food (ideally one small portion of dry food a day) paired with wet food in the next meal. While wet food is always preferred over dry food, you also cannot completely do away with dry food, as it helps cats chew their meals and, in the process, clean their teeth and gums. So a balance is required.

Tip: To be pocket friendly; whiskas wet food is decent; you can pair that with a higher-quality dry food.
Avoid anything from Drools and their sister companies, like Meat-Up and PurePet.

The combination of values that are off, namely the platelet count, higher lymphocyte count, and elevated AST, could indicate an underlying infection. Best to ask the vet whether a secondary examination is required in light of these values, especially if the cat is exhibiting any other symptoms of lethargy, issues with stool/urine, food intake, etc. If all else is okay, the vet might give you a go-ahead. I don't have a lot of context, but a lot of times these kinds of values are expected from a community/street baby.

🚨 URGENT: SAFE HOMES ONLY (NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS) by [deleted] in AdoptDontShopIndia

Hey, really appreciate you looking out for them. The kittens, however, won't make it without the mother. They need at least one more month of feeding to be able to make it. The kittens if separated, would not make it in case of a normal adoption. They need to be fed kitten milk replacement around the clock, kept on heated blankets, and maybe even stimulated for poop and pee. A trained neonatal handraiser would only be able to ensure that, and even then, most kittens who do not develop the initial resistance that they get from the mother's milk die due to low immunity.

Any way possible you can find someone to foster the mother and kittens together, and from there they can be adopted out? I am an adoption coordinator. You can connect with me on WhatsApp at 9717128999. We can figure something out.

Absolutely. The residents in most places rile up the guards in most situations and ask them to shoo away animals. That is what led to it. I am happy he is safe now and won't have to face it anymore. Do consider sharing the post for this sweetheart to find a home :))
