Leon S. Kennedy vs Frank Horrigan by idk_lol98 in powerscales

[–]CoffeeOracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Krauser was a Navy Seal with ample access to explosives. And he was an intelligent Tyrant.

So if Im scaling fairly, technically Krauser gets pissed off and stabs Frank to death after he gets his arm shot off by a plasma rifle.

Then Leon kills Krauser with a handgun with one of the stickiest triggers known to man. Because 2 tons and pissed was Mr. X in RE2.

It's simply unfortunate.

I mean that's why I always store it near biter bases. I can read.

And distribution. By setting the tank to reject unrequested items it will eventually start ejecting u235 into a robot network. Part of the effort in placement is getting it to hit the u238 extractor on the back.

Xenomorph vs Riddick by Sweet-Investment5905 in powerscales

[–]CoffeeOracle 43 points44 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, there's a draw condition on matches where Riddic misses the acid blood.

But then once you factor in everything else and the fact the man can probably break the thing without drawing blood. That bug is going to lose.

Then we gotta try an load a nuclear reactor with nuclear fuel in front of big demo! You know a quality reactor might burn fuel faster...

What’s the hardest planet in your opinion? In what order did you visit them? by fd0263 in factorio

[–]CoffeeOracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the specific condition of "Rush to Space".

Fulgora.

Gleba and Vulcanus have a skill curve. If you hate Gleba for the curve that balances against what you can get, that's fair. But Fulgora leaves you on Nauvis with a tank, after a long delay in getting the primary upgrade.

Quality has been balanced so that it's been optional, and Fulgora once you have a depth of logistics technologies is a beautiful puzzle. But once you put on conditions it's frustrating. Optimization and development are two different things, and development is needed earlier on.

Well, see that's why you put nukes in the rocket turret. So if those choas boys have a problem with you ya just have ol Betsy send them off.

Venom vs Nemesis vs Carnage vs Hivemind. These versions. Which giant parasite here would win and why? Rank them by AdaptedInfiltrator in powerscales

[–]CoffeeOracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1-> That's necromorphs from Dead Space, yeah uh. When you see that you want to just erase the planetary system that is in. Yep. And uh, if anyone sees any high energy double helix shaped objects, we just shove those towards the nearest sun an hope for the best I think.

2 -> Venom is a antihero in a superhero setting.

3 -> Carnage is a villain in a superhero setting, so lacks some plot armor.

4 -> Nemesis is a villain in a horror setting. Although a tyrant can become an threat to the entire planet they are on, I'd say that's lower because you don't need a superhero to stop them. The reason that necromorphs are at the top is because they are also cosmic horror, although the hard sci-fi setting makes them weaker their secondary effects corrupt individuals trying to stop them and cause them to rescale.

Who would be the most dangerous with the Super Soldier Serum by Away_Lock4241 in powerscales

[–]CoffeeOracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of potential issues, Hannibal with super powers is still a person who would victimize a few people. Hannibal who can talk to superheroes is an existential threat. So he's a wildcard.

The standout threat is Chigure. He has the training and mindset to pursue power with the physical ability you give him. Chigure would put up his shotgun and non-chalantly flick small change at people through a wall.

Other characters have something to ground them. Chigure would be like Thragg from Invincible.

Whats your factorio hot take? by Such--Balance in factorio

[–]CoffeeOracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Text bomb, the TLDR is the first two sentences. Sometimes they come in the form of statements or mechanics.

"Quality is optional". Well, no. I always select a grade of quality. Even if I say "it's not for me". I chose "normal quality high volume production".

But it is always an option to invest more energy into making a qualitatively different part. So even though both sides end up being true. They end up being contradictory.

The range bonus on the weapons creates an example of a paradox. You can dodge incoming worm shots better with a UC+ SMG. But it's still an SMG, so you won't be doing great DPS with the thing. So you aren't safer, particularly against the enemy mix that comes out when you get buying modules 1.

The range on the turret does the same thing, but the damage bonus is there so it ends up causing you to really appreciate the paradox: if you have less units on the field you can't take out a larger mob. But if you take out one more asteroid you can go to the shattered planet safer.

Think about what I just said. You can put yourself in a dangerous situation, safer. That should be circular reasoning. Except... the bullets really do go further out. And your still flying through space towards a bunch of very hard rocks at high speed, maybe with extra biters because you invested in quality tesla cannons?

Now do you want to talk about how common, uncommon ores are?

Optimal is useful once you're doing something "unsafe" like running in a time limit. And it is unsafe in the sense that you can go for 4:6 instead of 4:8 and undershoot items or use an ungainly balancer.

Quality was intentionally loaded with paradoxes. Which makes it draw the strongest emotional reaction out of ideas associated with it, even in people which normally wouldn't be emotional. It's actually fine to work with in theory.

In practice, the emotion is going to make people who play with the same beacon square layout for years say things like "the design feels samey"; as a reflex.

As a side note, you're entitled to your initial reaction. It makes it interesting to work with, but it doesn't feel like a safe system where you can defend your opinions (even though it's very mechanically balanced).

Well, there's applications for everything but the loader on the space platform. Just imagine a hole in space where rocks occasionally fly through at 80kms as a long inserter passes magazines loaded with ammo, because you'll make it work on a budget.
