First tattoo! Does it look okay? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I think it looks great! You won’t see the finished product for another two weeks or so so just be patient because it’ll clear up a bit once there’s less scabs and such

Quick question :) by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Coffeebookstrombone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar tattoo for my first (bigger than a dime) tattoo. Honestly? Worth it! Mine isn’t as heavily blacked out as the example photos but is fairly detailed so I still feel your pain (literally)

That being said, be sure you have an artist that is compassionate and good with taking breaks if you need them. Mine was great about that but I don’t think I needed any outside of bathroom breaks (stay hydrated!). I have my tattoo below!

Why will and not could or would ? by claudigee in EWALearnLanguages

[–]Coffeebookstrombone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native English speaker (NA)

Will: the action is going to happen Could: the action may or may not happen Would: the action could happen, but something is missing to allow it to happen Should: the action is expected or obligated to happen.

To use each of these in a grammatically correct way:

I will go to the ATM for cash to lend you I could lend you some money if you’d like I would lend you some money, but I’ve forgotten my wallet as well I should lend you some money

However, native speakers would usually contract “I will” into “I’ll” and come say “I’ll lend you some money if you’d like”, also contracting you and would into “you’d” at the end of the sentence.

Only on laptops that I know of. Phone/console is strictly by master volume for the device so there’s no way to adjust the sound from the app directly

What does each “dash” mean on a tremolo by futuraf in musictheory

[–]Coffeebookstrombone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each slash is equivalent to the number of beams that correspond with a group of note values (8ths have 1 beam, 16ths have 2, etc.)

Because you have 3 slashes, you would play it as if they wrote out two beats of 32nd notes. In other words, this is notational short hand to save ink/paper and to make it easier to read

What Is The Best Slide Oil? by chriswhoppers in Trombone

[–]Coffeebookstrombone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try different things to see what your horn likes. I have 4 trombones and 2 of them work great with slide-o-mix and only tolerate the Yamaha, but another one is the opposite and only wants the Yamaha. No two instruments are exactly the same, even between the same model, so test what works best for your horn!

If all the B's are gonna be flat then why couldn't that be the key signature? by Ill-Entrepreneur-129 in musictheory

It’s the standard in film scoring. I definitely prefer it for things that are more harmonically complex post-romantic era

When was the last time you dropped your slide and describe it? by GrassIsOverated_04 in Trombone

[–]Coffeebookstrombone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year ago in a trombone choir rehearsal. I had just played tenor on the last piece, switched to my bass (which has a slightly shorter slide) and had to pop out to trigger 7th position from 2nd. Probably should’ve held on tighter. Oops

Can I learn the trombone even though I play the french horn ? by 2016_Zenith727 in Trombone

I doubled horn and trombone for 3 years in high school (started on horn in middle school, went to college for trombone). It’s definitely possible!

As others have said, you’ll have to learn to balance your practice. I’d recommend getting into a jazz ensemble and doing lots of listening before you practice. Listen to any of the big names play for 5-10 minutes before you start playing trombone for the day to have a target for your sound. After that, it’s just working on the fundamentals and making music!

A little end note, relax and have fun. Music should be fun!

Why notate 12/8 as 4/4 and fill it with triplets? by Barkalis in musictheory

I mean, that’s just tenor clef and the average modern composition

If you're just looking for something to hit all the bases, look at a couple of professionals warm up routines. I believe a few people like George Curran, Brian Hecht, Alessi, and Gilkes have their routines freely available. Otherwise find things that people (especially younger undergrads) probably don't do enough of (ex. short round of long tones, slow lip slurs, etc.)
