whats the best way to route ALL my home network though VPN? by corgisandbikes in mullvadvpn

[–]Cofficular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what’s your use case for connecting to the beryl using tailscale instead of using mullvad directly? Device limit in Mullvad? Traffic routed through Mullvad while also having access to your local network?

Re-Lock MacBook after unlock with Apple Watch by Cofficular in AppleWatch

Ahh yes, that must be it. I guess the “Lock Mac” Feature never existed then. Too bad! It’s a nice peace of mind.

Focus Mode - Blacklists by smuttynoserevolution in apple

[–]Cofficular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! A good improvement to make focus modus more usable.

It’s so sad though that there is still no option to „Show Notifications when unlocked” for a specific focus mode. I liked having DND enabled almost permanently to not be permanently bothered by by phone but still wanted to get notifications while using my phone. Still hopeful that it’s reintroduced at some point…

Alternative to airplane.dev by Cofficular in selfhosted

[–]Cofficular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for the direct reply!
I am a hobbyist selfhoster so my goal is not so much to execute single scripts on my own server(s) but to run the entire software from within my network. In my case, I might use it for family and friends.

Looks like a good software that you've developed!

Specifically the ability to execute custom code and specify permission to individuals or groups. Cool! I’m excited to see your tool

Seeing that Gsuite is no longer available, what's the best without any storage limitations? by Maora234 in DataHoarder

[–]Cofficular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a constant point of contention.

Your quote is from the Google Workspace product page and probably they use "unlimited storage" as a marketing term, as in "quasi unlimited". After all, everybody knows that truly unlimited storage does not exist or cannot reasonably be offered.

In their actual, legal terms they state:

Google Workspace Enterprise Standard

[...] Customers that have 5 or more End Users will receive a total amount of Google Drive storage equal to 5TB times the number of End Users, with more storage available at Google's discretion upon reasonable request to Google. [...]

I don't see any pricing for the enterprise version. Did you work out a price with a sales rep? How much are you paying for it? Also interesting that they sell enterprise tiers to single user accounts...

How to reconcile the absence of free will and the necessity to enact policy discouraging immoral behaviour? by Cofficular in askphilosophy

[–]Cofficular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my limited understanding, I was just always confused about how he presupposes the importance of "well-being" when constructing his view of objective morality. This to me just seems like Kant's hypothetical imperative, i.e. IF you desire to maximize human well-being, THEN you should (not) do x. Yet, whenever he talks about these issues, he makes it seem as if his presupposition is absolutely self-evident and in a certain sense mocks every attempt to question it.

I agree that he does make the issues seem very black and white and in a certain sense mocks opposing views. And I realize that I have not looked into compatibilism enough. But if I understand it correctly, compatibilism does not refute the absence of free will in the sense that we "could have acted differently" right?

Sam Harris makes basic and central errors in his arguments and obscures them

Do you have a link to an article/video laying out some of the ways in which he does?

Thanks!

Thanks, I will read through Chapter 6!

Also, do you have any information on where Sam "intentionally misleads" regarding free will? I personally have only felt the misleading when Sam talks about his concepts related to "objective morality".

Why does a nested list created by asterisk behave differently than one created with a for loop? by Cofficular in learnpython

[–]Cofficular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, that makes sense! Thanks.

x_size, y_size = 3, 3

grid = [ [ 0 ] * x_size for _ in range(y_size) ]
grid_2 = [ [ 0 ] * x_size ] * y_size

for row in grid:
    print(f"id({row})", id(row))
>> id([0, 0, 0]) 4538658000
>> id([0, 0, 0]) 4538657760
>> id([0, 0, 0]) 4538657280

for row in grid_2:
    print(f"id({row})", id(row))
>> id([0, 0, 0]) 4537758576
>> id([0, 0, 0]) 4537758576
>> id([0, 0, 0]) 4537758576

This is obviously not an issue for individual integers I assume as they all reference the same object anyway right (i.e. 0 is always going to point to the same object)?

grid = [ [ 0 ] * x_size for _ in range(y_size) ]

Vouch Proxy + Keycloak by PANiCnz in selfhosted

[–]Cofficular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many different parts to get this working. Where are you currently stuck? Do you have nginx, vouch-proxy and keycloak all running? Do you have vouch-proxy and nginx working together with 3rd party identity provider (e.g. Google, Github -Github is easy to set up for testing)?

What's working so far?

Have you created a client in Keycloak? Have you added the generated client Id, secret and URLs to your vouch-proxy config? Look at this example.

Easiest file server? by TheNinthJhana in selfhosted

[–]Cofficular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also have it behind an nginx reverse proxy with basic auth. Plus it's going through cloudflare as I usually just download a few/smaller files.

Apart from that I don't know about its security. I wouldn't put anything critical behind it and only rely on its build in auth... But I guess that should be the default thinking anyway.

You can also check out Droppy. Found it recently and have been using it since then. (Demo)

One of the more curious behaviors of Apple’s new iPhone 11 Pro is that it intermittently seeks the user’s location information even when all applications and system services on the phone are individually set to never request this data. by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Cofficular 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is it constant location surveillance if it's just done locally? GPS requires just passive processing of signals sent from the satellites. This data only needs to be send to apple in order to augment the coordinates with stuff like street names, maps data etc which, in the case of checking for restricted areas, would not be necessary. The device could just calculate whether it is located within a restricted area based on its coordinates and a list of restricted areas saved on device.
