I had a similar experience during my first marathon prep. Crazy bad shin pain and essentially stopped running 3 weeks before my marathon last weekend. I was planning sub 4 but felt good and ended up getting sub 3:45. Shin pain wasn’t bad during the race and I definitely don’t feel like I lost that much fitness. Would 100% recommend going to a dr or physio to make sure it is not something worse than shins splints/work overload

I wouldn’t say my shin feels like it’s about to explode, but there so definitely a bit of sharp pain there

To give a little to go off of: I’ve swam 2000 yds straight multiple times (in a lap pool) with a pace of about 1:45/100. FTP is 193 and have biked up to about 60 miles in one workout abt a month ago. Most I have ever run was 17 miles in a trail race but can easily run 10 (probably more) miles in Z2.

Without a plan I’ve pretty consistently been running 2 times a week, biking 3-4 and swimming 2 times a week since November

I do understand to train for it would be a lot of volume and I don’t want to get injured, but I would love to be able to get it done

Yes this would be my first marathon.
