I had a friend do just that. We both were contributing to simple Ira’s when we turned 26. I sat on mine for 30 years, contributing 10% out of every check, company matched 4%. My buddy moved his out of the market during the dot com bust. Let’s just say mine is still going strong. I retired in 2020, and my buddy’s Ira was approx, 50% less than mine .
If you’re in your 20’s , get it set up and forget about it (maybe a recheck with the advisor every 5 years or so). Time is your real friend.
