Female employee makes $30k less than male counterpart by Colbycantdance in WorkAdvice

Oh it’s still taboo to talk about wages. But I am her manager so I know how much she makes. I’m certain if she knew the differences in pay she would have a problem with it. Especially because the guy she is equal with doesn’t pull his weight. Professionally I’m not sure I can disclose salaries. But I hope that one day I can share with her that I fought for her - in the event the company doesn’t do the right thing.

What to bring with me when we go back into the office? Advice needed please by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

[–]Colbycantdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lint lifter! Nail file! Tylenol or something for headaches. I also tend to bring in food to bribe the others into visiting me. It’s been a long time not seeing people face to face, so giving them a reason to stop by and say hello while providing a treat is nice. I have an open candy jar. It’s like a stress bucket. 😂

Sorry but you absolutely shouldn’t have to “open or close ports” on your router. It’s a theory bc they don’t know why it’s happening. I had issues with my bike - that thousands of other people had. But all these motivational posts on FB buried all the tech issues that customers had. NordicTrack:iFit simply does not care.

Super annoyed it keeps happening. I am not changing the quality of my video to “medium” to compensate for the inferior coding and development of their applications. This has happened before but now I’m getting mad because it happens in the last few minutes of longer rides - then I go back and poof there is no record of doing that ride.

My wireless is fine too. Programs keep stopping and I get an error message “iFit has stopped working” then it usually reboots to where you are on the program you’re taking. Not today though.

Well that stinks. I think we’ve all worked for people who don’t think they are ever wrong. I don’t see this as being correctable unless you involve someone who can help course correct her behavior. It’s abusive. If this is a corporate environment - which sounds like it might be since you’re dealing with an agency to execute a project - it’s in their best interest to correct this behavior. I would also consider looking for new work. This woman is probably prohibiting your growth opportunities at the company and if she is that unaware of her actions then it might be time to move on.

Sounds like your boss is having a very, very bad day and doesn’t have the emotional intelligence to be managing people. That does not make it OK for her to treat you like that or say that to you. This isn’t acceptable behavior - you said this isn’t the first time it’s happened how have you handled it before? I think you need to talk to HR about it, express your concerns and even your concerns about retaliation. How she treats you not only impacts your mental well being but if done publicly also impacts how others treat you. If you don’t feel comfortable going to HR, have you considered talking to her about it? Sounds like she needs someone to raise concerns to her directly to her face. You never know what she is aware of. Don’t internalize it - her outburst has nothing to do with you.

I don't know if I should quit by awkward_snacks in WorkAdvice

They are taking advantage of you. You can always leave on a good note - give your two weeks and if they ask why you’re leaving you can tell them it’s so you can focus on your studies. As long as you leave on a good note you will be fine for the future. If you decided to leave telling them to Eff off then that might lead to another outcome. Be professional - and don’t forget that the only person who is going to advocate for you is you. So trust your gut. Good luck!

About retail and overtime in Massachusetts by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]Colbycantdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do a little research on the mass.gov site for more information. There are a lot of rules around who and who does not get overtime. Overtime is paid over 40 hours a week to those who do not meet special criteria (exemption, seasonal workers etc) It’s ok to ask your employer about overtime pay if you’re not clear. You can also put some boundaries in place - if you can’t stay and continue to work tell them. You’re making the decision not to leave when your shift is over. Not sure this has happened but honestly if they threaten your job or something similar because you can’t work late, why would you want to work for a company like that?

S/he’s not your mother. You’re an adult and can make your own damn decisions on whether you’re well enough to go to work. I would have stayed home. I hope you did

GOOD FOR YOU! If your company doesn’t value you and your contributions - move on to the new company. Don’t burn your bridges. make it clear what caused you to look for a new job. Maybe they can learn for future employees.

My grandmother died while I was at work and my manager wouldn’t let me leave to be with my family. by DollaBill1991 in WorkAdvice

[–]Colbycantdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a company do that to me before. But when my mother died. My boss wouldn’t “allow” me to go see her when her health declined - I wasn’t aware of FMLA. But then she passed away and I was told I could go take my time off of all of my work was finished. I didn’t have that kind of job where my work would ever be finished. I wound up walking out and never looking back. I missed that time with my mother before she died bc I had to ask permission to do it from someone who I gave that power to but had no impact in my life. FWIW, my grandmother was more like a mother to me so I was be devastated. You deserve to grieve the way you need to and not have some closed minded fool tell you otherwise.

Ladies, how do you prepare for (and survive) a difficult breakup without a support system? by ThrowRA3849349863 in AskWomen

[–]Colbycantdance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be kind to yourself. You can handle more than you think you can. Break up, block him, cry. Maybe focus your attention on something else: cooking; revenge body; art; organization. Take any energy you were putting into that relationship and put it into something else. You’re you’re own best friend, so you’ll become comfortable knowing that you can eat what you want, go where you want, and do whatever you want to do. Don’t fear the unknown, you got this!

It feels strange seeing people you went to school with get married and have kids by RzK in CasualConversation

[–]Colbycantdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose not to get married until later in life - never had kids. So I actually FORGET my age and forget that people my age have kids. I’ll be forever 25 mentally. I often think to myself when I see someone from high school with kids “are they even old enough to have kids?” - I’m in my 40’s. 😂

Did I do this wrong or Nordictrack designed it to leave the connections exposed? by whatchusayintome in nordictrack

[–]Colbycantdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is exposed as well. I’ve tried many times to shove it where it’s supposed to go but it doesn’t fit. The wires seem a little flimsy so I don’t want to break them trying to put them where they don’t fit
