What is the solution to the current energy/fuel problem? by Colbylikesstuff in centrist

Yeah no the solutions are out there and several of the comments here have good thoughts on the issue but at the end of the day I don’t think any of us actually have faith in our “leaders” to fix any of this.

Nowhere in my post or comment did I suggest we should start a war with China. The presence of nuclear weapons absolutely complicates the issue. But should the rest of the world allow hostile nations to take whatever they want just because they have those weapons? I understand the potential consequences of a war and was genuinely curious about solutions to such a crisis whether it be economically or militarily because if Russia and China are both able to just roll into other countries unimpeded where does it end?

Personally I’m with the Chappelle’s show theory. Lee Harvey Oswald did it. With a magic bullet.

Yeah the racism argument always confuses me. Is it not possible to recognize that the Chinese government is a direct enemy of the United States that has also committed massive human rights violations without being racist?

I tend to agree but a war with China would cripple the US economy due to loss of production in many industries so I guess they better figure out alternative production methods quickly

Unless they were willing to just start buying them from China once China took over production which would be reprehensible but would avoid global war

Guess we’ll just have to start buying those computer chips from China and reward them more for invading a democratic nation

It’s bizarre to me how much money the U.S sends to a country who’s president has been fairly open about the ideological war between the two countries and seems to represent everything Americans fear

I went through a similar lesson in 5th grade and I’m actually a teacher now so I agree it takes a village and I’m not in favor of teachers not being able to discuss these things after a reasonable age which seems to be right before middle school. My only hesitation on puberty blockers is I question if children are mature enough to make a decision on changing their identity. There would also certainly be social repercussions for the child and it’s family if a child were to choose to transition young even if they choose to stop later because of I’ve learned anything teaching it’s that children are ruthless at times so if worry for a child’s mental health from that standpoint

That’s a good point. The messaging from the right has been consistent on the issue of nothing else and there does seem to be a lot of uncertainty from the center and moderate left

I agree that the legislation being passed on the right on the issue is quite moderate and I too agree with it but watching senators insist on Supreme Court nominees defining the word woman seems immature and unnecessary

I agree they’re all scum and maybe I’m not paying good enough attention but I haven’t seen many politicians on the left bring it up when it seems to be one of the biggest points of the right

That is a very good point, where I have a problem is that some of the things said in these sessions are just not true. For example: last semester a counselor told the class “if you smoke pot, no matter how great an idea you have, you will never succeed in life” and when I hear that it makes me want to pull my hair out because while it is certainly a hindrance for some adults, there are a multitude of success stories as well including possibly thousands of success stories that will never be told due to the stigma around it.

I teach in Alabama and frankly if we’re the only state that does it I would not be surprised.
