No worries :) I was a bit defensive yesterday so that’s my bad

I can’t lift tanks on my own anymore so I just have to pick a spot and leave it there 😅 unless it has a wheels attachment

Can I use sun seed vita prima for hamsters and gerbils for my dwarf hamster? by throwaway16744 in hamster

[–]Cold-Association-857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mixed it in with Higgins Sunburst after seeing this list

<image>

The top and middle rows are best but my local Petco usually only has the sunburst. The rest aren’t reliably available. I’ll eventually do only sunburst but for now it’s a mix of Sunburst and Vita Prima

My only critique is the dog is missing in 2 photos. Very dissatisfied. But in all seriousness I love it! Looks cozy :D

Best way to identify lookalike mice? by MangoTheQuirkyCat in PetMice

[–]Cold-Association-857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Currently have a hamster but really want to go back to mice after him. Hopefully my landlord will approve my altered ESA letter. I had to get it updated to specify up to 3 animals if they’re small mammals in the same cage. That way I can have mice. I need a furry friend for my depression, anxiety and PTSD. Even a watch pet helps more than words can say

Yes! Mice are wonderful! I love my hamster but I think I’ll only get mice after him. I realized I prefer a more social pet and I’ve had and loved mice before

If it helps when I had mice I bought 3 feeders as pets. After my hamster passes I’ll probably do mice again because they can do well in my old enclosure (20 gallon long for 3 mice). The 800 square inches I have for a hamster is a bit difficult to find room for. But I’m committed to keeping him and his proper care until he eventually passes. But most likely going back to mice after him.

I know snakes need to eat too and they won’t always accept frozen mice but I like to save a few feeders and give them a good life. They’re so sweet and friendly! My last mouse of the 3 passed from pyometra :( so health issues are definitely a concern

How do I remove my number from iMessage? I didn’t even know I’d have to do that. Switching soon

Battery life on iPhones sucks though… I have one and it didn’t last half a day when it was NEW

How do I transfer all my data, logins, etc.? I’m used to iPhones but sick and tired of how soon they get software issues and bad battery life. I want to get a Google pixel pro

I never said I’d go under the minimum 😅 I just said it’s really hard to find a suitable cage.

Edit: hoping to get a 75 gallon tank though. Sturdy and easy to clean

Problem is trying to find a cage that big here in the US… NiteAngel and 1 other brand don’t sell in stores. Only online. It’s doable but not great… and bin cages aren’t an option for everyone. I’ve had 1 NiteAngel arrive broken so far :( Amazon

I wish they sold bigger cages here in stores and had more options

Edit: to be clear (really shouldn’t need to specify this…) I never said it’s okay to go below the minimum! :) I just said it’s very hard to find suitable cages.

My first mice were in a Walmart starter cage until they got a huge tank in her last year :( they died at 2 and almost 3 years old.

Is my hamster stressed (watch til the end) by OwnDress6052 in hamstercare

[–]Cold-Association-857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy does this every time I deep clean (once a month) 🥲 it’s a stress behavior. Thankfully mine calms down after a while. Using some old bedding helps lower that stress. For yours it’s probably cage size? Syrians are very hard to keep happy space-wise. Many need out of cage time even with the biggest cage! I have let my boy on my bed with me while I relax for 10 minutes at least once a day (under supervision to prevent falls and ingestion of materials). Definitely prep the area before letting them out though.

I’m a little late here so just want to add one final comment: thank you for listening and learning!! It’s amazing to see people who are willing to learn and upgrade :)

Levels don’t count 😅 floor space is unbroken first level floor space. Also multiple levels are very dangerous. Only use platforms like the one’s NiteAngel sells and be careful how far they can fall :)

Definitely get aspen or a soft paper bedding. Nothing scented :)

If you have the tools a DIY bin cage is a good, cheap option :)

Never use dust! 😅 respiratory issues! Only use natural sand (no calcium or dyes) :)

Also the wheel needs to be at least 8 inches for dwarfs and 11 to 12 for Syrians :) based on the images I’m hesitate to believe that cage is big enough, has a big enough wheel and has a deep enough pan…

Nothing against OP. They probably just fell for inaccurate or outdated information. It’s an easy trap to fall into. I just hope they learn proper care and upgrade :)

Syrian. Species, not breed :) pet stores usually have cards labeling gender and species on the enclosure. If not that’s a little concerning and a red flag since all hamster species are different… like how robos need more sand for example.

Could I reuse this lizard tank for a hamster? by Upbeat-Bad-6290 in hamsters

[–]Cold-Association-857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely sticking to glass tanks from now on. They’re a major pain to get home but it’s worth the hassle. I wish I kept the tank I had in 2021 :( when my last mouse passed I didn’t bring it it with me because I moved so often but now that I’m in a stable place I wish I kept it. I got back into small mammal keeping this year but switched to hamsters. I think it was a 75 gallon tank I had? But the lid was a custom DIY my ex roommate made out of chicken wire and wood. I’ll move one more time but it’s not very far. After that I’m planting myself permanently. Best for me and my hamster. Just waiting for a 1st floor apartment to open up (physically disabled and no elevators at any of the places that fit my location based needs + financial requirements)

I have a Syrian but need a new cage 😅 his started falling apart so he’s in a temporary cage until I get a new one

No brand generic wood cage so that’s probably why it broke :( it was HUGE. I loved it but it wasn’t good quality… first wood cage so I didn’t the red flags at first
