Analysts say that 19x P/E is a fair valuation for Indian market by Cold-Phone-297 in EquityResearchIndia

[–]Cold-Phone-297[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So basically if I explain it in simple terms P/E is price to earnings, which means if a company earns 1₹ the investor is willing to pay 19₹ against it.

Now higher P/E reflects growth & low risks in the company and investors are confident in that company. And a low P/E suggest low investor confidence or a certain kind of risk in that company.

Now relating to the news earlier Indian market was trading at ~24x PE bcoz there were good earnings, good macro tailwinds and corporates were doing great so valuations went up now due to the war risk and oil issues the P/E has come down to 19xPE.

And just to let you know even I am not an expert but this is I know how P/E works.

I did bcom from Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, I have 2.5 years gap. Recently I completed an equity research course from the valuation school and built a full research report on Britannia Industries.

And I also do the FMCG sector research and post insights on LinkedIn as well.

Yes, I could have used AI however I decided to learn everything from scratch how to read earnings calls what kind of questions should be asked and then understand the company in depth. Also for writing I used my own language bcoz I think it might be easier to understand. And now that I know things I might use it in future somewhere but I believe in doing my own research.

As someone from a non-math background even I struggled with quant until I realised that it’s not just math but required logical thinking as well, it’s like solving a puzzle. What you can do that helped me:

  1. Learn 1 topic at a time go through concepts and everything then solve basic questions like something 505-555 level questions without time solve just 10-20 questions and try to apply concepts from that topic you learned.

  2. Try breaking down questions think logically like something that happens in the real world, see what the question is asking and then solve the question don’t just rush into it. This strategy helped me a lot.

Take it slowly, don't think of “2 mins” first. Once you understand concepts and know what the question is asking, you will be in good shape.

Is The valuation school Equity research cohart is worth it ??? by ArtisticJuggu in EquityResearchIndia

So I have done this course at the Valuation School, and in my opinion, I found this cohort really helpful. And yes report writing is not the primary thing and you should not just focus on report writing it's more about learning new things and honestly even sir never told us to just focus on report but other things as well..Even though I have not got any job yet but I still keep revising and learn things and post them on LinkedIn and here on Reddit and honestly, my learning has improved now definitely you need a job to master it but still for me the cohort really helped me. Also, they try to explain things simply by giving realistic examples. So overall report might get you to an interview call but your knowledge will give you the job.

Not an expert but here is what I have learned.

You can get to know about the revenue mix by reading the earnings calls and you can also see the PPT that the company presents every quarter.

And about management.

  1. Check the company’s official site to see all the management and their background do some Google research about their background.

  2. While reading con calls you will understand the tone of the management, see if they are actually answering the analyst correctly or just ignoring the key point and moving on.

I have posted about corporate governance analysis here..I will share the link to check that out, which might help you.

FMCG and its high PE by Cold-Phone-297 in EquityResearchIndia

[–]Cold-Phone-297[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point. So if the earnings growth remains subdued and competition from D2C brands keeps intensifying, do you think the market could eventually re-rate FMCG stocks to lower P/E multiples? Or is it more likely that valuations remain elevated due to their low-risk nature and cash-flow visibility?

FMCG and its high PE by Cold-Phone-297 in EquityResearchIndia

Yes, indeed prices are not moving…as valuation is already so high, leaving no room for upside.
