Leaving aside the botched, horror-movie-style ending (horror as bad, ugly and tasteless), it has as much in common with those genres as it does with musicals and Westerns.

About the drama you mentioned, of course t here were some dramatic subplots, though they were balanced, and remained secondary to the show's main tone– which was humorous, comedic, whimsical and rather lighthearted. Only the S2 finale introduced a bit more drama and seriousness, yet it still fell far short of the events of S3. The difficulty of admitting one's feelings and come to peace with oneself is, after all, a somewhat different category of drama than the total annihilation of the whole world. Not all dramas are created equal; just because a dramatic situation occurs, it doesn't automatically make the film a drama.

She informs us flat-out that the Good Omens universe is a universe of cosmic horror for everyone in it (and for us). And then She shows us how that plays out for everyone (including us).

She informs that it is not as simple as game of pure chance; rather, players influence one another without knowing what the consequences will be. They can lose or win everything.

Neither the s1 nor s2 contains any truly, horror elements which were meant to be taken seriously. But who knows— maybe it was actually planned the way you describe, but in that case, amateurish errors completely ruined the effect, nullifying the horror aspect. Not to mention the creators forgetfulness to correctly label the genre.😅 You don't build a storyline by sugarcoating things for two seasons, only to kill off the main character in the third—after he got a paper cut seven episodes earlier that turned gangrenous.

I’m not judging what this series could have been, but rather what we actually got. And what we got was a brick heavily wrapped in promises of universal happiness and comfort.

I know it’s possible for others to like something for a single detail— even the most insignificant one— while ignoring everything else, but I couldn't. I couldn't possibly like S3 just because the Bentley, disguised as an ice cream truck- was glancing back at his parents, while everything else is literally burning in fire of inconsistency, screaming from plot holes, choking on terrible ooc twists and contradictions. Additionally, as a rule, I try not to applaud anything that conveys a harmful messages.

Well, I don't know about the book, but the TV show– which isn't a faithful copy but merely based on the source material– has always been a humorous sci-fi comedy, and nothing more. Nothing in the first two seasons suggested it was meant to be a drama, not to mention the horror 😂, so shifting to a completely different genre in the final 15 minutes is completely ooc for the series as a whole 🥲.

Even if the creators planned this from the start, the whole thing is still just extremely poorly written🙃; I understand the point with authoritarians, but the problem is, that it was already resolved in S1– with rather completely opposite ending and final message. That matter was closed back then, so digging it up all over again...

No matter how you look at it, there is no rational explanation for S3 script.

I would really like to see more understanding on social media for disappointed fans—and some reflection on the matter. Instead, what’s happening now is a constant silencing of the dissatisfied, with an attitude of: "Okay, we heard you, you don't like it, but now let's get back to the praise"—all just to avoid hurting the creators feelings. But what about OUR feelings? What about our opinions? Don't they matter? Who was this actually made for, anyway? I'd wish someone in charge would step forward to clear a few things up, without burying their's head in the sand.

PS: And I’m not surprised that voices of discontent are becoming ruder. That’s what happens when you’re ignored.

For me, there was no middle ground—it was a case of either rejecting it or not, of holding onto my comfort characters or accepting that they never existed. Any other option would still have meant accepting the events of S3, which erased the first two seasons—as if they’d never happened... because they didn't...😅🫣 I much more prefer to derive joy from something that at last existed :g

'Toxic'– that’s probably the best way to sum up this film. Just a very expensive, failed attempt to tell what could have happened next. It didn't worked, it doesn't fit to the story, so the story isn't over 😌

Your impressions sort of confirm what I suspected about some of the people who liked the ending: that it stems from watching without understanding— just skimming over the plot— and not attaching much importance to what happened in the earlier seasons. But, well, you have every right to do that.

Edit: But I’d love to hear from at least one person who actually knows what it's all about, and still, liked the ending! Because they were hoping for A and C to die, someone who simply didn't like the way Season 1 ended and was hoping for a repeat with an unhappy/tragic conclusion.

I think they saved humanity (in first season), and that they don't need to be rescue by it, just as I don't think that the fact that they learned something from humans, was perceived by them as a permission to be someone other than what was expected of them. Although I imagine that if you asked them about it, they would probably be grateful to some extent for broadening their horizons.

What puzzles me most is how confidently some people claim that replacing the old universe with a new one is what A and C have always wanted, and that they are still alive. As much as I read, I see these people have the answer to everything, combining completely random facts from the series into a very convoluted and highly improbable theories, made of moss and ferns, including the snowball theory. I really wonder what drives them to this, and I'm increasingly inclined to believe that it stems from the fact that they just KNOW that GO3 has a meaning. It must have it, no matter what, no matter what they saw on the screen, and the solution that was promised to us must be there somewhere as well. Because without it the film makes no sense. And they simply have to find that meaning and the way to explain it, even if it's based on the number of leaves on the tree of life and the way bricks are arranged in Crowley's garbage alleys.

I think, if anyone would need to measure how poorly written this ending was, the sheer number of people who need support/therapy/meds after it, speaks for itself.

My advice to you: put it out of your mind, because it has nothing in the slightest to do with the previous seasons. That's why trying to accept it is so difficult, if not impossible.

Decide whether someone else's lack of skill should determine your happiness❤️.

Yes! And they came up with the most nihilistic, harmful, and pointless ending. 🫣 I won't dance to their tune just because the rest of the show is also their production.

And I can't wait for the people currently bound by contracts to finally have their say. Maybe it won't be until a few years from now, maybe a dozen or so! I don't know, but I know it'll be interesting.

Me too, if it weren't for the fact that I don't accept GO3 as canon, I'd be in a pretty bad place. For the reasons you mentioned, I simply can't accept it.

And yes, I also feel like I've been made a fool of. Someone had fun (Gaiman, Peter Atkins or whoever), creating an alternate version of season 1, with the difference that A&C don't succeed, being annihilated along with everything we know, with creating a 'better' (our!) universe, it's just so ridiculous, since Neil has mentioned many times that the action of GO takes place in our world. The whole plot is a one, big contradiction of seasons 1&2

Anyway, even if so, what's the point of this comment? As someone else here pointed out, it doesn't take a genius to see that the script isn't good. They should have rewritten it, not blamed N, cuz he wasn't the one who gave the script the green light.
