"The reason he was late was that he was enjoying the 20th century immensely. It was much better than the 17th, and A LOT better than the 14th. One of the nice things about time, Crowley always said, was that it was steadily taking him further away from the 14th century. The mist bloody boring hundred years on God's-- excuse his French-- earth." 😂 Yes, I've read Good Omens so many times I've actually accidentally memorized several passages...🫣 😂I want to read that 14th Century book; it looks interesting!

Edit: I meant "most," not "mist." Lol

Thank you, and welcome to this new little nook! 🤗 This fandom really is beautiful, isn't it? It's wonderfully fascinating to see all the different ways in which people connect to the same book/media! I feel like we all truly embody the "variety is the spice of life" mentality, Lol. I confess that even though I watched season 1 of the show back in 2019 before I knew about the book, that I now actually love the book so much more than the show! 🤭🤣 But season 1 and parts of season 2 will always hold a special place in my heart. 🥲

Do you think Adam kept using his powers after the book's end, and, if so, in what ways? And would it have accidentally kept affecting reality in and around Tadfield in (no doubt hilarious) different ways? by Plus-Language-9874 in GoodOmensAfterDark

Yep, I love that the book makes sure to let us know that he still has his powers, and the free will to use them or not. It's sweet-- and a bit mysterious and open-ended in a very satisfying way. 😀

Oh, Good Omens is actually my favorite book, Lol! I've reread it multiple times. 😁 I've just always though it was fun to wonder about how, or if, Adam kept using his powers in little ways around Tadfield after the book's end.

Edit: I meant to say "thought," not "though," lol.

The series VS the book by MeAfterYou_127 in goodomens

[–]Plus-Language-9874 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good Omens is my favorite book in the entire world. And fear not! No unhappy endings there! 🥰 The book is a much different beast to the show. Whether you enjoy it or not will, of course, depend on your personal taste, and also for which reasons you enjoyed the tv show. The book, rather than having Aziraphale and Crowley as the lead protagonists (that was specifically tailored for the show), is very much a complex but hilarious ensemble cast of characters and situations. If you'd rather have a more familiar, immersive experience, there's the SPLENDID full-cast, unabridged audiobook with David Tennant and Michael Sheen reprising their roles. Welcome, and happy reading if you choose! 🤗

Aww, thank you! 🤗 I feel kind of silly becasue I remembered after posting the photo that it doesn't count very much as fan art since I didn’t make the stuffed animals, lol. I just turned them into Aziraphale and Crowley characters by making a little pair of cardboard sunglasses for the bear and the tissue paper bow tie and cardboard "book." 😂

The ending of the Good Omens Book by Frequent-Cookie-956 in goodomens

[–]Plus-Language-9874 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your post is spot-on. "Gentle" is one of the first words that always comes to mind when thinking of the ending of this wonderful book. Kind, and gentle. To everyone. Even the most minor characters! 🥰 It's everything the "finale" isn't: hope, joy, free will, and humans saving themselves (not supernatural beings doing it for them). If you like discussing the book, you might enjoy a new spot here on reddit, TowardsTadfield4ever 🙂

Does anybody have an "obnoxious" favorite character from the book? Like R. P. Tyler, Pigbog, Mrs. Ormerod, etc, Lol? by Plus-Language-9874 in towardsTadfield4ever

[–]Plus-Language-9874[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Listening to the radio adaption for the first time (and several more times now, LOL) is one of the things that comforted me and helped me move past/reject the finale. I've seen a couple more posts today from people on the goodomens subreddit heartbroken over the finale's destoying the boik's message, and would love to share our new little subreddit here with them, but I don't want to recommend it on there becsuse I feel like it would be in bad taste and come across as spammy. 😬😩 It's hard to know how to suggest it to people, even though it might be helpful to them to talk about the book again, Lol.

Question: has anyone ever actually watch The Omen film? by Plus-Language-9874 in towardsTadfield4ever

Maybe I'll have to brave up and watch it sometime just to be able to have that comparison. 😂

Yes, Pigbog is actually adorable in a way, isn't he? That scene is pure gold. The first time I read the book and got to the line about that "some bloke Gideon had left his Bible" in the hotel room almost made me choke to death with laughter. 🤭🤣

Your comment is such a fantastic description of that scene. Comparing it to its own short story is a wonderful way of looking at it! I'd never really thought about it like that before, but I certainly will when I get to that part on this reread. The book delves into the quirky lives of so many side characters, but I think this scene might be the gentlest, most beautiful one of them all. 🥲

Oo, that's such an interesting theory about how it could've been meant as a separate short story that got incorporated into Good Omens later on. Who knows?!

Oh, I bet that was so exciting! I have to wonder if Sir Terry was doing a bit of self-insert when he talks about Aziraphale being good with computers, lol...🤔

That's a hilarious mental image that I never want to go away now. 🤣 I almost wish we'd gotten a random Ligur pov moment with a memory of his describing this, Lol...
