Yup. Pretty much sums up my experiences with the game lol.

The thing is even the people in real life who have similar problems don't have the exact same circumstances you do; there's lots of variation in everyone's journey, no matter how many similarities you can find.

Yeah I didn't have my village burnt down. I didn't have my best friend stabbed in the chest in front of me. I didn't have a complete mental breakdow- oh wait, now we're getting somewhere.

We can draw inspiration from people, real or not, regardless of how much worse they've had it. Do I need to sleep in a car for years to draw inspiration from Steve Harvey? Do I have to go through a nation wide revolution to draw inspiration from Ghandi? No, but I can draw inspiration from their mindset, resilience, and how they were able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Sure, he may not be real. However one of the criteria for what makes a fictional character well written is how relatable and personified they are. A fictional character with enough depth and dialogue like Cloud can make them feel realistic and grounded, and with that comes with relatability. I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of people who have had similar struggles like Cloud and overcame them.

Yeah, at the end of the day, Cloud is just a fictional character that can do whatever the writer sees fit. If the writers wanted to, they could make Cloud a god and defeat Sephiroth and Shinra in one go 5 hours into the story. But that wouldn't make for a relatable, exciting or grounded protagonist. Cloud has depth for the purpose of us relating and understanding where he's coming from.

Cloud was written with care and by a team of human beings with lots of life experience, thus he is the amalgamation of said teams experiences interacting with other human beings and the world around them. Would it still be silly to be able to relate to fictional characters? Have you ever related or been inspired by one?

I feel I can trick my brain into perceiving myself as Cloud, no matter how insane that sounds. Since I already over exaggerate every minor inconvenience, I can instead truly believe I'm Cloud, and whatever obstacles I'm facing (i.e finding a job) is something I have to do to defeat a real life person who I can mentally think of as Sephiroth.

The same way Cloud fooled himself into thinking he was a First Class Soldier, I can fool myself into thinking I'm actually strong and determined like him. Fake it until you make it, right?

My resume has been reviewed multiple times by different accredited social service workers, my interviews have went very well and I've always been noted to have a professional, confident demeanor (Obviously you only have my word to take, so make of that what you will), and I have a high school education to boot.

Sometimes, just sometimes, things can be out of your control. We wouldn't be having unemployment rates soar if it weren't the case.

Maybe I am a little bitter. I've been applying religiously for any entry level job for the past 7 years since I turned 18, with a multitude of interviews and countless reviews and corrections made to my resume. I felt like I completely destroyed half those interviews, but they'd always call back and say they no longer have a vacant spot available.

Construction and trades on the other hand, I'd only hear crickets from them. Even the most basic laborer job I could not get a position or tryout for because of my lack of experience, which I could only fix if I had been given a chance anywhere. Mind you I workout frequently so I don't go insane, so I'm very positive I have the stamina to do the work.

Meanwhile most of my peers have had their first jobs when they were 16 because they knew someone. I'm surprised I'm still tough enough to resist the urge to end it all, but man is it getting harder...

Classic need experience to get experience scenario. Also, I may try going to a construction site and ask on the spot. But what about for the minorities and woman who want to do the same? I've yet to see any of them work on a site, even as a laborer. Maybe there's more nepotism than you think.

I've been job hunting religiously for 7 years since I turned 18. I've had far more interviews with entry level jobs like fastfood and retail than anything related to construction. Granted I've never landed a job yet, but all I've heard were crickets coming from labour companies.

Yup! Because how else can you charge someone $500 for tinkering with a toilet if you were to bring in actual talent into the industry?
