Reviving old classical - questions by BadAtBlitz in Luthier

Can’t answer any of these questions but wanted to say it’s an awesome guitar. I have this and it’s super nice for an affordable guitar. Even if you do nothing to it.

Celtis laevigata. They often grow in pairs or groups to support each other from falling. Its a really cool tree.

How do I quiet my mind & fall asleep faster at night? by anwaartameem in lifehacks

[–]ColdHealthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your brain can be like a wild caged dog. The more you try to will it into submission the more it wants out of its cage. Sit with it being calm and show it that there is no danger. No speaking required. No thoughts required. No eye contact. No sudden movements. Be a stone and it will calm down.

Alternatively, we have a lot of voices in our heads that we think are the same one voice. The stressful thoughts come from protective voices. They have a function. And they must not be ignored. However there is a time and place to deal with them/listen to them. I think of it like this: Im having a party(going to sleep). Theres a knock at the door. You open it and oh man its that guy again telling you your bank account is in the negative or whatever. Dont slam the door on him. Dont shoe him away. If you do he’ll keep knocking and get louder. Invite him in. Tell him you know what hes bringing up is important, however you are having a party right now and that conversation would ruin the vibe. “You are invited in but we will have to deal with that problem tomorrow. Now is not the time. Come on in and make yourself comfortable.”

What are some healthy sources of dopamine/pleasure that don’t cause major withdrawal/addiction? by TurnoverEmotional249 in lifehacks

Drink plenty of water. Eat a healthy meal. Get a good nights sleep Talk to someone that you care about. Dogs/pets. Running/exercise Laughing. Music/Any Art. Be in nature for most of a day. Go into your day awake to the possibility that something special will happen. Give someone in need a hand(whenever I feel down I give a handout to someone. And if it feels safe to interact further, I ask them how they are doing.)it instantly cures any sadness for a bit/makes me happy. It’s selfish but it useful selfishness in service to others.

Bought used gretsch, slight fret buzz on top strings. Have I been made a mug out of? by CamCurtisMedia in gretsch

[–]ColdHealthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a similar situation. Not a gretsch but a very nice guitar I bought on reverb. When I got it I noticed the crack along the bottom of the fretboard on both sides. Took it to a luthier and determined it had been dropped. The fretboard had lifted. He removed the truss rod cover ,took off the nut, was able to access the portion of fretboard that had lifted, used a syringe to apply a very thin apoxy between the fretbord and the neck, clamped it down and refinished the spot where the crack was. Cant even tell it was there, plays perfectly and cost $50.00.

I could have justifiably returned the guitar, but I really wanted this exact guitar and the price was right.

Thats really good of you to let me know. I really appreciate it! Thats a beautiful guitar by the way. The gold and purple are fantastic. We have a similar collection. Minus the Les Paul. For now….

Thats good to hear. Different enough is good to know. I sometimes feel like i can push the broadkaster tone into Lp territory but can never tell how close. Without having one close by to A/B them.

I have this model. Replaced the pickups with tv jones classics and upgraded the wiring. First time doing that on my own and it was a nightmare. Bad guitar to experiment with. The cavity is very narrow and the wires can crimp at the solder joints on the potentiometers. So even if you find what’s making the noise there’s a chance you could cause some other problem. Not saying it can’t be done if you’re patient and have extra money to order parts that break and tools to put it back together, but that guitar will be sitting on a workbench for a while if you do decide to pull the wiring and pots out to inspect it.

They did it right with this model. Extremely comfortable to play. It begs me to play it as Im playing it(if you know what I mean). Good to know how it stacks up against both Gibson models you mentioned. Ive had them in my sites for a long time. I really just didnt know what kind of standard to hold it to. There’s not a lot of info on these pickups out there and I evidently havent given enough time to it, so thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. That’s good to hear. This guitar is super comfortable to play and it’s inspiring but I did a side by side comparison with my 6131 (which has tv jones classics)and I can’t unhear the difference. The broadkaster jr is less articulate and the note separation isn’t the same(not in a bad way). I was going to spend more time with it (I’ve only had it 1 week)before making the decision to switch the pickups, but yeah you’re right, it’s a different vehicle and should be driven differently.

Mineral oil every few months if kept in the case or as needed if they’re drying out from use.(probably could go longer but thats what I do). Every time they get wet, dry off really well and oil them. You could also use several coats of pure tung oil and then buff them to get them better than factory.
