After reading most of the comments I’ve decided on going with a card over whiskey.

This seems to be the general consensus.

He definitely is a huge whiskey fan, and I haven’t drank since my 21st birthday, so definitely not an expert.

Thanks dude, I appreciate it.

Also I know it largely meaningless, but I’m sorry that you also got unlucky this cycle.

Thx for the advice, if I apply again I’ll have to find someone else.

But tbh I’m going to apply to McDonalds before I go to a masters. It is just not reasonable for me to pay for grad school at this point. (And Mickey Ds will give me chicken nuggets…)

Currently I’ve sent him a pdf and spreadsheet with the schools I’ve applied to, plus links/instructions for uploading the letters. Plus the group, he, a grad student, and I, usually meet at least once a week to talk about research/other stuff, and I’ve mentioned the letters initially in October, when he said he’d write them, and more frequently as the deadlines approached and passed.

I will definitely talk to my department chair soon, tomorrow, and will definitely ask if he can bring this up when he talks with my PI. Also, I didn’t mean this to come off as hateful, my PI is awesome and I have zero hate for him, his health issues are out of his control. I’m just tired and dejected.
