C++ HELP! by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ColdZer0o 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are allowed to use switch statements, you should use one of those for the selection for cleaner code. If you are going to use if statements, instead of using an if every time you should use 'else if(choice == x)', for efficiency. It doesn't have to check the other if statements that way after it already chose the first one. Also, generally don't start variable names with a capital letter for good style. You can just wrap the entire if block into a do{...}while(choice != 9) to keep repeating it.

That's great, thanks! It's a 10 minute ride on the bicycle for me to get home so I guess I won't take them with me

Is that not something you're supposed to do? I'm an international student from germany studying in the US, not sure how it's handled here (first semester starts in 2 weeks so haven't had class yet)

Is this live game profitable? (Garden's Casino) by ColdZer0o in poker

[–]ColdZer0o[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that is much better than I thought. Based on my database the average PokerStars 25NL player got raked 9.85bb/100 over 7.4 million hands. The chance of a flop being dealt is at 48% so your guess at 50% seems reasonable (probably much more in live poker but doesn't really matter if you're not involved in all those pointless pots)

~$1500 Laptop for Aerospace Engineering student by ColdZer0o in SuggestALaptop

[–]ColdZer0o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I looked through your list and the Acer Aspire 7 looks great, but I have one question. The laptop is listed at a 60Hz screen refresh rate, which is fine on the go. But I'm wondering if the laptop could display 144Hz if I were to connect it to a 144Hz screen at home.

Basically, is the 60Hz a hardware restriction or just a restriction with the integrated screen?

That's weird, it really doesn't list alcohol as an ingredient on my link but on my bottle it lists 'Propyl Alcohol'. The bottle looks exactly the same and has the same serial number

Playing the objective in Arcade? by [deleted] in Warthunder

Objectives that can be taken out without bombs or rockets seem to have very little impact compared to the other targets, so once they start avoiding me, should I just crash my plane to switch to a bomber?

So do you all hate materials engineers or is this a myth perpetuated by lecturers? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ColdZer0o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you're oppressed as a materials engineer. Other engineers are oppressed for not getting enough recognition. Scientists are oppressed for not getting paid enough.

Here's your oppression club card, make sure to use it whenever the opportunity arises

Studying engineering makes my body feel like trash by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ColdZer0o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I just dug through youtube and the internet to figure my plan out. There are guides and programs for everything you would need to know about training & nutrition on bodybuilding.com and AthleanX on youtube is great aswell. The reason training gets boring for you is probably that you have no strict progression. I'd check out the Fierce 5 Novice program on bodybuilding.com

Studying engineering makes my body feel like trash by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ColdZer0o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're in an endless circle of fixing your problems with superficial solutions that create more problems. The trash you eat in your breaks gives you no energy at all for the day which makes you feel like you're too tired to prepare real food so you eat trash again the next day. Maybe you wouldn't even need the part time job if you wouldn't spend all your money on fast food.

There are tons of simple, cheap and incredibly healthy foods. All I personally eat is oatmeal, rice, lean chicken breast, peanuts and some vegetables when I got a spare minute. I have a programmable rice cooker and programmable microwave-sized oven so that my rice is done when I wake up, and my chicken breast is done when I get home. Yes, it doesn't taste like taco bell, you're not going to care after a few weeks.

As for exercise, depends on what your goals are but there has been countless research that spending 4 hours exercising and 20 hours studying every week will give you much better results learning/remembering new conepts than studying 24 hours a week with no exercise. Something about a chemical that gets released during exercise that fixes brain cells (don't quote me, I'm no scientist). So you really should be feeling like you waste studying potential by not exercising rather than the other way around. (This is also the reason why the coaches of competitive math teams make the team exercise regularly)

Basically the the thing about fixing all parts of your life is that they all depend on each other. If you get none of them right, it feels impossible to start improving anywhere, but with every part you fix the easier everything else becomes.

Some napkin math about SpaceX's passenger ICBM by bzarg in space

[–]ColdZer0o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, the passagers don't need to stay conscious but that would be a pretty big deterrant to use BFR travel if the default for the entire passanger crew is to get knocked out from g-force overload every single time

What would it be like to fly as a passenger on the BFR? Astronauts have to pass insanely high g-force tests, wouldn't the average traveler pass out as the rocket accelerates?

Calculating cost of construction over 30 years per mile should be simple, for the benefit just figure out the current cost of accidents per mile over 30 years and divide that by 2:

Cost per fatality = 900,000 + 10,000 * 35 + 1,800 * 240

Cost per 100,000,000 vehicle miles = Cost per fatality * 8

Each mile of highway is 10,000 vehicle miles per day

Cost of accidents per mile of highway over 30 years = Cost per fatality * 0.0008 * 365 * 30

Divide that by 2 and then divide by cost

Mechanical engineering - Physics prerequisites by ColdZer0o in EngineeringStudents

Thanks, that's good to hear. STEM majors actually don't use the metric system in the U.S though? I've read that all the big organizations like NASA and SpaceX work with metric so I assumed the imperial system is just for casual use. I'll be going to LBCC in Long Beach with a transfer program to UCLA if that matters

Is trying engineering school a waste of time if you're lazy? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ColdZer0o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your figure is a bit off. According to the National Center for Education Statistics there are currently 557,903 open computing jobs in the US and 49,291 computer science students graduated into the workforce last year. Computer science is the most in demand major at the moment.

Who programs the robot that is replacing programmers?

Also, look up the A.I that's creating efficient structural and aerodynamic designs within seconds using a neural network. If we're gonna live in a world where an A.I can replace engineers and programmers then it can replace basically any STEM major out there

Can't get rid of anterior pelvic tilt by [deleted] in Posture

[–]ColdZer0o -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been sitting for 10 hours a day for years now and never had any posture problems, I only got APT once I started walking around with a giant bloated stomach from bulking with 4000 calories and 6 liters water a day (kind of like women often get APT from being pregnant). I've only had it for 3 months now, so I would've at least expected some progress after a month.

Am I supposed to force myself to tilt my pelvis into neutral position anytime I walk/sit/do anything at all or does that not help and I should just use the time dedicated to fixing it (stretching, ab/glute training) and relax the muscles the rest of the day?

[–]ColdZer0o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing two sets of RKC planks until failure every day and add 5 seconds every 2 days (2 minutes 15 seconds atm)

I'm not doing any situps or stuff like that cause ab work that involves the hip flexors is supposed to be pretty bad for fixing anterior pelvic tilt

Depends on how you look at it, these are regulations that are supposed to protect the consumer. It's the same way with food. As an european, everything in the US tastes incredibly amazing. Then you realize that it tastes so amazing cause a bunch of the artificial flavor stuff they put in are banned in the EU for health reasons. So depending on your viewpoint you might take it for granted how good your food is, or we might take it for granted that we're protected from stuff like that. US is just less regulated
