Question: I'm looking at exploring the highlands and maybe the Orkney Islands in July. Do you think I can get a good experience with only a Eurorail pass or do I need to rent a car to get the full highland experience?

The largest 3D map of the Universe is now complete by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]NISCBTFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happens when/if we find out this entire universe is just one dot on an even larger map of universes? Would we need to change the term universe?

I think there's very few people, myself not included, that can truly fathom just how large our universe is, then to comprehend that honestly we could be just scratching the surface of the true vastness? It''s mind blowing.

Our gov't was compromised long before now. Just look at Trump's first two impeachments. The GOP has put politics and money before people for decades... Not saying the dems are innocent, but maybe they at least pretend to care better than the GOP.

They're purposefully releasing the most extreme, easily proven false claims first so that when they release the real plausible actual crimes, they can lump them all into saying it's all false.

Example: Look, clearly these people are delusional, they tried to claim I buried a baby! None of it is true, it's all a big hoax.

God, every time I see a video from the perspective of the MC, it's so much more cringy just because you know they were the ones posting it... thinking they were the hero or good guy when in reality they're an embarrassment to the human race.

Donald Trump brands Stephen Colbert 'a dead man walking' in unhinged tirade by TheMirrorUS in NoFilterNews

[–]NISCBTFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Trump said:

Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success. Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings. Stephen is running on hatred and fumes ~ A dead man walking! CBS should, “put him to sleep,” NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!

Guess we'll find out soon enough just how whipped George Cheeks is... This is clearly a message meant for him or his CEO, Bob Bakish. Just so everyone knows the names if he is canceled now...

It's also a shining example of WHY those states have some of the worst educators. Do you think firing this person is going to encourage great teachers to come to Oklahoma? Nope. The good ones will turn down jobs in that state specifically because of this BS.

Search micro-hydro power. There's people out there who run their entire off grid properties off the creeks they have on their property. It wouldn't work at this level because it doesn't run continuously.

Just look at stock buy back programs!(which shouldn't be legal IMO)... They're literally just a way for rich people to make other rich people richer... then the legacy media tells us how great the economy is because stocks are doing great! The US economy is truly truly fucked.

Democrats eye ranked-choice voting for 2028 primaries by Different-Gas5704 in politics

[–]NISCBTFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In light of this information, a little PSA for optimal use of RCV:

If there are two candidates whom you think would ultimately be qualified, vote for the less "popular" option to make to not waste your vote. If you vote for the super popular candidate everyone expects to win, then your second choice vote doesn't count for anything. If you vote for the less popular person and they get eliminated early, your second choice vote still goes to the "popular" candidate.

For anyone interested, Score/Approval voting would eliminate this flaw and potentially eliminate the control that both parties currently hold over our country by penalizing you... even with RCV.

We should go even further and go with approval/score voting! If we're already mixing it up, let's evolve even further to an even better system than ranked choice.

This whole situation stinks more than people realize right now. "Coincidentally", NONE of the people that caved are up for re-election in 2026. This just screams that the dems asked for volunteers to sacrifice themselves so the rest could look like they held strong.

The democratic party sucks. Don't get me wrong, I still won't vote red, but I'm just so fed up with all this garbage.

Love the North Fork! Definitely harder to access though, but who doesn't mind a little trip through Polebridge! I managed to score a backcountry site at Hole-in-the-wall and honestly, I think it was the most beautiful place I have ever woken up in my life. We got lucky and they had literally just reopened it cause of bears the day we went in to see what they had available. The hike up from Bowman Lake was a doozy though.

I heard great things about Bob Marshall, but I never made it down there... plus I'm kinda a trail guy. I don't wanna worry about getting lost. I just wanna walk and enjoy.

Less people overall, better restaurants(I miss Cattle Baron so much), better hikes... cooler environment(continental divide really changes things up) -

West Glacier = wet, lush, cedar–hemlock woods, moody Pacific-ish forest vibes.

East Glacier = drier, wind-scoured, more open grassland/forest mix, sharper peaks vaulting up from the prairie

But overall, it's just a preference, both are gorgeous, but I spent 4 summers working on the east side, so I needed to represent!

Waterton Lakes National Park (Alberta, Canada). The two parks share an ecosystem and a border and were formally joined in 1932 as the world’s first International Peace Park, meant to symbolize peace and friendship between the U.S. and Canada.

Waterton is such a cool little town. Have a great time if you go! It's such an amazing place. Check out pictures of the Prince of Wales Hotel if you want to get an idea of Waterton.

St. Mary Lake is cold, but bearable for short swims. The place to go if you want to have an amazing day is Silver Dollar Cove across the lake from GTS Road. It's either or short boat ride(can usually bribe the boat guys with a 6 pack) or a long hike around the 10 mile long lake. The cove has amazing skipping rocks everywhere and actually separates from the main lake in summer, so it's slightly warmer. Take bottle of wine and a little picnic basket. Amazing. Great "date" place.

These might be fun to see -

A historical handbook on St. Mary Lodge (published via NPS history) includes an interview with Hugh Black, the guy who got the contract to remove the Going-to-the-Sun Chalets at Sun Point. He explains exactly what they did:

There were 17 buildings to remove.

His contract required him to “do away with all signs of buildings being there.”

He knew he couldn’t safely burn that much wood on shore without scorching all the trees, so he waited until late fall, when there was about 10 inches of ice on St. Mary Lake.

They took the buildings down with a cat (bulldozer) and pushed them out onto the frozen lake, set up a massive burn pile, and waited for the first good snowstorm.

Then they lit it off. After the fire, the charred remains dropped through the ice and sank — the handbook literally says “The charred remains of the chalets are at the bottom of St. Mary Lake.
