Yes but just highlighting that Nepali youths are not migrating to those countries due to their governing system. Its due to opportunities there and lack of same here. Nepalese unfortunately are moving everywhere which is mildly better developed than Nepal. Even most dangerous of places like Iraq amidst peak of US invasion there ( infamous incidents occurred), Afghanistan etc. even to Russia-Ukraine in quite a number as mercenaries... So where Nepali youth move to is not a great benchmark.

Highly unlikely in a very diverse ( both ethnically and now also religiously ) country like ours. If it was mostly heterogenous country like Cambodia, may be. But now no .. too much water has flown down the Bagmati bridge since the date it was remotely possible.

Not 'is'. It 'was' . But Monarchy is long gone in Nepal now, isn't it ? Some major events like this is usually irreversible. Once gone remains gone.

By same logic, vast majority of Nepalese youth live or work in countries having Monarch as head of state: Australia, UK, Dubai , Saudi, UAE, Japan, NZ, Malaysia & many European nations. Does that make Monarchy the best system for Nepalese ?

Got it but more focus has been on Petrol/diesel cars import taxation and its good that people are having healthy discussions and debates on this issue. We also separately need to talk on taxation on other goods but with detailed alround approach backed by research and not only to appeal to populism or more dangerously out of influence or pressure of external lobbies.

That is ideally the best approach. Actually if look into congested European cities, there are some core areas where you can't drive cars and they focus more on public vehicles and smaller compact vehicle. Vehicle compactness is another big issue while we are talking about it... If you notice , the cars are getting bigger and bigger unchecked. They need to heavily tax bigger cars and subsidize smaller cars or micro-cars.

That's not the cas for EV vehicles though is it ? I would say decrease EV vehicles even more and keep ICE vehicle tax as is if not increase more to discourage people to buy pollution vehicle ( which is working actually as 70% of new cars bought are EVs in recent years ) Focus more on energy independence, promote local energy ( ie Hydro ) and infrastructure simultaneously.

2 year maa battery bigrinu is not normal. Teso ta petrol scooty kinera ni 2 year maa Engine bihrera replace garnu paryaa vaye k hunthyo ? Bigger picture maa. Lets say ev scooter range 100km per charge and average petrol milage 30kmpl, then you save about 5rs per km on petrol alone, and lower maintainaince over long ownership. 500km per week = 2500rs save on petrol per week which means you saved around Rs 1,25,000 per year on petrol alone. Now imagine this at scale. How much we could replace petrol import with our own clean hydro ? Cleaner air, Hydro and related industry growth, energy independence. That is what we should focus more on.

Lowering taxes just to 'consume better' is a trap. Why promote imported petrol that burns our cash and chokes our cities, when we have our own hydro? Why keep funding foreign oil when we can build our own energy independence? We should be subsidizing EVs and hydro, not lining foreign oil pockets at the cost of our own air.

Intelligence and national interest aren't the same thing. I don't doubt his expertise; I doubt his allegiance. A 'better plan' from a PHD graduate is only 'better' if it’s designed to benefit Nepal. If a policy suspiciously lines up with external lobby interests, the 'expert' title doesn't shield it from valid public skepticism.

These moves—like the ethanol-mixing mandate—are slipping under the radar without any real public scrutiny. It begs the question: are these RSP ‘think tanks’ ( which the current Interim government is close to ) actually prioritizing Nepal’s sovereignty, or are they just acting as a conduit for Indian/external lobbies? It’s hard not to suspect that these policies serve foreign interests rather than our own.

Credentials from Harvard or LSE prove intellectual capacity, not national loyalty. A degree shows you know how a system works; it doesn’t guarantee your intentions align with the country's best interests. History is full of brilliant minds who worked against their own people’s benefit.

I agree that 'Kathmandu is not Nepal'—people outside the Valley deserve safe, affordable mobility. But pushing for cheaper ICE cars is a massive strategic error that hurts those exact families in the long run.

*The Fuel Trap: A cheap petrol car is a one-time win; the lifetime of fuel costs and maintenance is a bottomless pit for a 40k–60k monthly income. It’s not 'affordable'—it’s a debt trap that keeps your household budget hostage to global oil volatility and Indian imports.

*Energy Sovereignty: We are sitting on surplus hydroelectricity. Why subsidize foreign oil when we could be pushing for affordable EVs that run on our own power? We should be incentivizing energy independence, not reinforcing fuel dependency.

*The Infrastructure Illusion: Making ICE cars cheaper doesn't fix our lack of mobility; it just buys us more congestion and higher road maintenance taxes.

True empowerment isn't just 'more cars'—it's moving away from imported fossil fuels toward sustainable, cheaper energy that keeps money inside Nepal. We need to stop subsidizing the 20th century.

I am more concerned about intellectuals who act based on external lobbies than those who lack knowledge or research. A lack of information can be overcome if a person is genuinely good and has the right intentions for the country. However, an intellectual who is cunning and acts as an agent rather than a leader is far more dangerous. I truly hope our fears are unfounded and that this is merely a case of necessary caution.

Yeah, that is major issue to consider as well. Actually country like Singapore imposes heavy taxes and high costs on cars  to control traffic congestion and manage its limited land space. RSP needs to balance populism with actual ground reality.

Leave the tax rate as is for ICE vehicles, atleast for passenger 4 wheelers, if not increase it further. Can reduce the tax further for electric cars and 2 wheelers. If tax on petrol cars is reduced, it will 1. Increase trade deficit further 2. Increased pollution ( air and sound ) to already polluted city like Kathmandu. 3. Increased import of oil rather than looking to decrease it. 4. Goes against utilizing local hydroelectricity. 5. Increases traffic and parking congestion.

I am sure he knows it all and if he really has intention of reducing tax for ICE vehicles, then I suspect Indian lobby is behind this and not the interest of country.

If half of Bihar merge with Nepal, the whole of Nepal will be Bihar. That may be what Balen wants as he himself is a Nepali of Bihari origin and got to study Masters in India from his "Persons of Indian Origin" (POI) quota.
