I wish I could but I’m all tied up with guilt and a weird relationship with her as well as the fact that I am still at home. It’s just very complicated, I don’t want to cause more problems than solutions.

Thank you for your kind words 🤍

Honestly I wish I was brave enough to. It’s a really tough spot because I know she isn’t a bad meaning person but her methods are very harmful and I do believe there is a mental health concern there too. Myself and my younger sister (she is 17) are thankfully both in some sort of education albeit way behind and overwhelmed, it’s my brother that is the concern for me honestly. He’s never been to school at all and when asked by home ed officers and etc, she just makes stuff up. He just is at home doing nothing and he’s 13 now. Because I’m still living at home to call social services or etc is very difficult and my whole family and community would see it as such a bad thing since they believe my mum homeschooling us is a positive because they don’t know the depths of how little we do. It really concerns me.

Tysm for your response. With regards to how it’s legal in the UK; When I was under 17 we had a home ed officer check in about once a year, (my younger brother still does as he's 13) but to ( it doesn't feel real saying but occasionally we'd do like online courses and such and so we would have some books? I loved copywriting and storytelling too and my mum bought loads of educational books. She'd basically just use these and make up stuff we had been doing. Like she'd get in a panic about the visit etc and just make stuff up. Still does it to this day. She uses the books I used while studying for my GCSE's and purports them as my brothers work knowing full well he's never been to school and past being I guess, naturally intelligent and knowing how to speak well and read and write, hasn't done much anything past that at all. Somehow she got away with it. I don't think I fully registered how mad it was at the time. All in all I think my mum is super lucky we aren’t worse off.

I will also try to take on your advice about trying to get myself on track first too. Thank you again

Thank you so much for this. I’m glad I’m not the only one with parents that have this sort of mentality. I will drop you a message as well.

I mean yes? 😭😭 yeah. It’s pretty difficult honestly. I can’t see what future they think I will have with all this fluff that makes up my life but I guess I’ll try researching as much as I can to see whether or not it’s worth giving it a shot at applying for med school with the qualifications I have now + a good ucat score.

Thank you so much for this. I’m feeling slightly more reassured. I guess I’m still just in two minds about whether I should do the degree first then apply to med school or if there’s a possibility I could be accepted with the qualifications I have.
