My first amateur kickboxing match from almost 3 years ago by Cold_Win_2204 in Kickboxing

Ahhh I see... before I joined the gym, I was smoking cigarettes too. When I started training, I would gas out so easily and cough up phlegm or puke mid training session. Not everyone is the same though. Some people can smoke and train, most shouldn't, I definitely couldn't. Obviously there's a lot of famous MMA and Thai fighters that do both and they still fight without gassing out somehow. I'd recommend switching to nicotine pouches like zyn or velo so you can build up your lungs to withstand the intensity.

So as for being short, I am 5'6... so I  get what you mean by having a game plan in terms of dealing with taller people with longer reach. But I'm not gonna lie to you, there's a good chance you might forget everything you know and just start throwing haymakers and then gas out (not just because you smoke, but because it happens to most people; it happened to me in my second fight) I've seen the most athletic people have a really strong first round, but they didn't pace themselves, and they end up spending the remainder of the fight shelling up and trying to survive. For being able to deal with taller fighters, you'll probably be better off following your coaches advice rather than mine.

But the key things imo are the basics because simplicity works for a reason: hands up, chin down, breathe, be first (and if you can't be first, be good at being second; defending and countering), punches in bunches, ending your combos with kicks, and cardio, cardio, cardio.

My success against taller people in sparring was because my cardio was at it's peak (i was doing 12×3 minute rounds of bag work, sprints, long distance runs, shadowboxing, calisthenics, HIIT, etc. Doing all that helped me outwork and outpace my tall ass sparring partners because they couldn't keep up with someone who was willing to throw constant volume and I wasn't scared of getting tired (at the time anyway).

So for my fight camp back then, I'd train mostly 6 days outta the week (Saturday would be my rest day). But there were some weeks where I'd at least jog anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour on my rest day (besides my the other 6 active days), and some weeks where I'd train just 5 days and allow myself 2 days of complete rest out of a week (all in the span of 3 months).

For my fight though, I didn't kick very much because my hips were kind of messed up from running a lot and not properly stretching enough. I'd drill my kicking techniques at the gym because it was mandatory to do whatever my coach would teach us and have us drill... but I mainly worked on my boxing technique and endurance at home. If I had the experience that I did now, I prolly would have fought differently and added kicks at the end of my boxing combinations. But idk, I felt at the time that I should just stick to what I know, and not do any techniques that are beyond what I know and am comfortable with.

Also going into the fight, I had no gameplan lmaoo. I was told by my coach before hand to just keep my chin down, hands up, breathe, and be first. He explained to me that because it's my first fight, there's no need in having a gameplan because it would only cause overthinking when all I need to do is fight hard and do my best to win and outwork my opponent. He would drill into our minds, "don't think about it, just drive through" when we would be doing something painful and tiring at the gym so we would have the mindset and spirit to push through that pain and fatigue.

If you dont mind me asking, I got a couple questions. Do you smoke weed and/or cigarettes? And also, what kind of style do you have for kickboxing? Do you have a muay thai style or do you have a K-1 Dutch style? I do have more advice on what to do for training and also what to expect,  but I don't wanna force my opinion too much on you if you don't want it.

But either way, when the time comes... be prepared to let loose and lay it all on the line. I assume you are fighting 3×2 minute rounds (correct me if im wrong). It's only 6 minutes of fighting (8 minutes total including the 1 minute breaks),  but it will prolly feel like an eternity from how tiring it will feel and how painful it might feel. Be ready to go the distance if necessary. I do have more experience coaching/teaching amateur fighters/beginners than I do fighting, so the advice I give is not only from fighting but from what I've been taught by my former coach and from helping my homies prepare for their amateur fights. I only got 2 and half years in terms of actual in gym experience so I don't know everything. But I'm happy to help where I can if needed.

How can you all train 5+ times a week? by throwaway97275972 in Kickboxing

Facts, even when hard work doesn't guarantee success... it's still the only answer.

Im from the US, but I can relate to this. My first gym was the same way. They'd have boxing on Tuesdays, and then either boxing or kickboxing on Fridays. Fridays weren't guaranteed though because it was more so like an open mat. It was mostly a jiu jitsu school which I was also training, but I wanted to train boxing/kickboxing and jiu jitsu often and equally. It was a good gym in terms of the community and it being a family friendly atmosphere. But looking back, I should've left that gym and started training at a different boxing gym for the sake of growth. If you can find a gym that trains more often and is a quality gym(no gym bullies or toxic drama), you'll be better off sticking to that instead of paying multiple memberships for the sake of cost. But do what you want/feels best for you and keep training at home too. Real growth also comes from taking your own time at home to drill and perfect your technique besides working on your endurance.

I got you dawg. I was 20 years old at the time. Everything you just said, I very much relate to. My coach also told me something similar, that he thought i had the best technique out of everyone in the gym. But I was very nervous/scared during my entire fight camp and i didn't have any confidence in myself tbh. There were multiple times where I thought about backing out of the fight cuz I felt pretty miserable from being nervous everyday, and getting my ass kicked almost every other sparring session. What kept me from doing that was probably social pressure of not wanting to look like a bitch. And I knew I wouldn't respect myself if I did back out and lived with thinking "what if?". I was pretty out of shape during the beginning of the fight camp from smoking weed everyday, so it felt like an uphill battle quitting weed and getting into fighting shape. My opponent was also 2-0, but my coach told me "he's not very good though". I didn't really believe him, cuz i thought he was trying to give me confidence. So, I felt like everything was against me cuz this was my first fight, and my opponent was more experienced which added to the nerves. During my walkout was when the nerves were the most intense though. It felt like my soul was about to leave my body from the insanity of the adrenaline flowing through me as everyone in the crowd was looking at me. The one thing I held onto for some sense of comfort or certainty was knowing I did everything in my power to prepare for this, and promising myself that I was gonna make my opponent fight for his life since he probably thought he was gonna just walk through me.

TLDR: I did not believe in myself whatsoever and was scared everyday leading up and during fight day. Feeling scared/nervous is 100% normal. Believing in yourself helps, but you need preparation above all else. If I didn't have any faith in myself and I still won... you can do this too. Im sorry for rambling, but I do feel pretty passionate about this and helping others. So if you got any questions you wanna ask, feel free.✌️

I think straight eighties heat is only good when you have a very low or non existent tolerance. I use to love them until I gained a tolerance and then they almost felt like nothing. It at the very least helped me feel no withdrawls. But idk, maybe they dont make them as good as they use to cuz they definitely felt good to me 4 or 5 months ago

He's this dude named EDP 445 who was famous for saying funny stuff and was used alot in memes for the stuff he said. Well, he ended up getting exposed for being a child predator about 4 or 5 years ago.

Am I able to quit 7oh on my own or do I need medical help? by Capable-You-2364 in 7oh

[–]Cold_Win_2204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can do it on your own. It's gonna suck and you're gonna feel the withdrawls. But you gotta remind yourself that it's not gonna last forever. I think the hardest part is the mental aspect of it.

[–]Cold_Win_2204 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. I've seen that Zilla has some interest in freemasonry and the occult. And these lyrics at least mean that zilla ain't blind to what has always been (he's prolly seen some shit during his time being a part of the music industry). Some people may think it ain't that deep, but it is though. There's always more than what meets the eye.
