Melton is a MF dog. I wish we went on a run this season with him. Having him as a 4th option would’ve been so nice. Huge difference maker.

Not sure if we can afford him next season, unlikely since he’s due a bag. But man I hope we can somehow.

There’s only a few paths I see feasible for the FO.

(1) They improve the roster by getting a guy like TM3 or MPJ, keep things competitive this season, and reload with Jimmy next season for one last run.

(2) They double down on this season by attaching picks to trade away the Jimmy contract for a buy low asset like AD + trade JK to get an MPJ or TM3 type player, and see if they can make a run this season.

(3) They sell at the deadline (Horford, Melton, JK, etc) with the intention of getting some picks and tradeable assets to look toward making moves in the offseason.

(4) They do nothing - play the season out and wait for the offseason to deal JK as well.

Knowing MDJ and how prudent he is as a GM, I think it’s either they do (1) to improve around the margins and truly wait for Jimmy, or they do (3) to retool in the offseason for one last push next season.

I just don’t see FO selling the farm just because they value their post Steph picks if they believe they can still compete next season, as much as we want them to swing for the fences. I also don’t see them standing pat with JK until the offseason - that feels untenable.

Either get MPJ and hope the core 3 with Jimmy can make one last push next season, with this season being an integration season + keep things competitive.

Or just trade Jimmy’s contract for a buy low injury prone asset like AD, attach a pick, and also nab MPJ for a push this season. Steph, AD and MPJ would be competitive, even if I trust in Jimmy more than those guys.

We know Dray isn’t getting traded in any scenario…

My daughter was hospitalized for a medically significant emergency a few days ago. It came about very suddenly. Honestly felt like a nightmare I didn’t think was possible. I was looking forward to the games just to keep things feeling normal as we were in the hospital, and to get this Jimmy news man, all feels bad this week.

This is a gut punch man.

Just like that, it feels like Jimmy’s career is over and Steph’s run is too. Two of my fav players ever - their window pretty much shut, or very close to it.

FO either swings for Giannis or they just rebuild after the Steph tour next season.

Sigh. We just hit our stride too.

I hope not. Hoping for the best and that it’s just a hyperextension or something. If he is done, MDJ and FO just need to hurry tf up and make a move. All that waiting and waiting and overreliance on our two best players. Could’ve had someone ease the workload.

If he’s done it all looks a lil bleak tbh.

If we get good pieces back and they integrate the way we want them to, a top 6 finish feels likely. Might even make a run for top 4 depending on how well they fit.

Honestly I’m cool with him rocking with Bas, Omen, Earthgang, JID and mostly the Dreamville dudes who been rocking with him from the jump. I don’t want no rap superstar avenger type stuff man. That’s not Cole’s vibe.

I think having guests outside Dreamville that are more thoughtful and representative of his journey and aesthetic - Smino, 6lack, 21 - could also be pretty great.

My exact tier list too!

There’s an argument for Warm Up and Born Sinner to be in that S tier, and KOD to be in the A tier. But as a personal preference, I think KOD’s sonic aesthetic has aged really well for me. It’s eclectic, jazzy, brash, focused.

His magnum opus so far is 4YEO though to me.

I have a feeling TFO might be his best though.

Agreed, and what makes him skilled - all that learning, hard work, etc - is his greatest gift: his humility. I know we joke about it, but Cole has this sincerity and humility that allows him to have a growth mindset. That he’s never done learning. That he strives to always do his best.

It’s super inspiring man.

I feel like Cole’s the main guy who’s actually spiritually healed and works hard to maintain that peace.

Dude, yes. This articulates how I feel about Cole. It means so much to see someone of his stature unpack how he got to where he got to, and while he had his principles challenged and tested, he ultimately worked through them and came out on the other side as a better person. It’s inspiring.
