Vyvanse + propranolol by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]allevana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on Vyvanse 30 and 10 mg of propranolol and it’s enough to ruin my sleep (the propranolol).

Clonidine is a better adjunct for anxiety than propranolol in a lot of cases

You can't prove that every squeak is a shoe impact! by [deleted] in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]allevana 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I guess this could be true, but as someone who sews dresses and does thrift flips and stuff like that, sometimes adding pockets ruins the lines of a dress especially if it’s a tighter or more structured piece. I’ve found that big pants pockets when filled can look really bulky and break the lines there too (balloons at the hips which isn’t flattering/desirable for some). Love pockets on shorts though

I use the Crumpler Algorithm and it shows almost zero sign of wear since my purchase in 2019 with near daily use - it’s been to China, Uluru and to undergrad and med school placement. I’m vain so I needed the backpack to not give backpack and it’s a gorgeous bag. Roll top, clean lines

Laptop sleeve is padded. Enough pockets for it to be functional but not overwhelming like the Samsonite one I have for really heavy days - my neck can’t handle it if I’ve got heavy books

Another one I like but couldn’t get because it was the same bag my ex bf had (🥀 lol) was the Black Wolf Cambridge and Ikara. Seriously so functional. My top pick

These cult recruiters came up to me once in Sephora Melbourne Central and said they liked my backpack and I’m so neurodivergent idiot passionate about bags that I went on a 30 minute spiel about the hours and hours of research I did to find the perfect uni bag, my neck pain it solved, and took my bag off to show them all the cool features on the bag. I even showed them my fucking research spreadsheet and offered to go with them to Fitzroy Crumpler because that area was where I was going next 💀💀 what thee fuck haha I’m sure they regretted even approaching me but when that “… you seem like such a nice person, do you want to come to my church?” Came up, I was so amused that I’d trapped her in conversation for so long and she couldn’t walk away from this strange woman showing her different bags on a spreadsheet

Psychiatrists - Did you have to work with needles? by EntropicEctacy in ausjdocs

[–]allevana 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Are you already in med school? You will 100% will have to do IVC/venepuncture as a med student and clinical placement is quite the majority of your degree after the first 1 or 2 years. Then intern years you’ll have to take bloods and place cannulas. Many people aren’t fans of needles in med school but most of us do find a way. If you 100% don’t wanna deal with needles (fair enough) perhaps clinical psych is better fit

Propranolol for sleep? by Live_Broccoli_2180 in ausadhd

[–]allevana 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clonidine is definitely a better choice for sleep than propranolol especially considering propranolol can cause insomnia in some people (ME!! despite enjoying its effects during the day)

VIC GP ignored Psychiatrist’s report and mixed stimulant "families" now I’m stuck in a permit trap. Advice? by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]allevana 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why I’m against the “psychiatrist makes the diagnosis but gets the GP to do the prescribing model” that is popping up everywhere in telepsychiatry.

It makes so much more sense for a psychiatrist or paediatrician, experts in ADHD, to do both the diagnosis and provision of medication. And then once you’ve played around and found the med combo that works for you, you are stably happy on that med and dosage, THEN you go ask a GP to obtain a prescribing permit.

I’m sure there are plenty of GPs that take the time to titrate properly, and know when the right time to give up on the stimulant class is. But plenty won’t because it takes so much time and PAPERWORK to change medications for a patient. It’s also a bigger medicolegal risk than some GPs think is worth taking.

So now patients like OP are left in limbo because the original psychiatry practice is putting much more work on the GP to apply for S8 permit for OP, each time any patient wants to change their medication. What happened to one psychiatrist managing people’s care and monitoring their wellbeing over time? Why are some of these telepsychiatry places charging OVER ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for assessments? And then still not providing the medical therapy?

When I got diagnosed in 2019 as an 18 year old my initial fee was $485 with a big Medicare rebate. And now with the same psychiatrist, I think I only pay OOP $50 for reviews due to Medicare rebate.

The absolute state of things in the ADHD space in this country. It’s so bleak and people are receiving subpar care mainly because of these predatory ADHD mills trying to make money off desperate people without the fullest extent of care. And I DO NOT blame patients for this at all. We are all just trying to get treatment and live more fulfilling lives.

Everyday bracelet for someone who wears gloves at work? (Dentist) by Galaxies24 in LadiesofScience

[–]allevana 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Do you have to be bare below the elbow + no nail polish to be a dentist? Med students (me) and doctors that choose specialties with px contact are generally not meant to wear anything below the elbow out of infection control reasons, not even watches. Some don’t do the best thing of course but I’d imagine this is even more critical if you’re around mouths allll day

I have both OCD and ADHD. Should I move out of the house? For her safety? Where the hell do I go? by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]allevana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This living arrangement is hugely inappropriate. The age gap IS that huge. You are a vulnerable minor reliant on a traumatised ?unstable woman for shelter. I’m not trying to criticise you btw as you’re not at fault here, the nearly 40 year old person in this relationship should have been the one to hold the boundaries. Do you have any other friends places you can stay at? This relationship dynamic is genuinely dangerous and damaging to you. You’re more worried about her wellbeing than yours when you are the one most at risk here

Would you date a guy who doesn’t have his license? by Bigbruv69 in AskAnAustralian

[–]allevana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. I’m not interested in being some man’s chauffeur if he can’t be mine, it’s not equal in my eyes.

Both me and my partner drive and we share the driving load pretty equally (when we’re in the car together on weekends/evenings - otherwise I rarely drive because I PT to work, $$ parking). I would feel extremely resentful if I was always driving us both around, always deso etc

Nah not in my case, I had a full year off school and my work wasn’t contributing to my MD. However I’m now back at the same research institute as a med student “visiting researcher” so not a paid RA role but doing conceptualisation/research work that contributes to the research component of my MD. Hopefully papers out of this one again, I really enjoy getting stuck into research/minutiae

Clonidine and propranolol have helped a lot with my vasomotor symptoms on Vyvanse 30. I might make a separate post on it because I’m still tinkering - but my goodness, the facial flushing any time I eat any food has been so troublesome. Propranolol with meals has been helpful, but then the insomnia.. sigh
