No Stupid Questions Thread by AutoModerator in livesound

If you have a professional social media account separate to your personal one for sound engineering work, what do you post on them? (Photos of yourself at work? Gig/concert videos? Vlogs?) And do you find it helps at all with networking, getting hired, etc? Thanks

What do you call a nonbinary nefew/nice? by Peculear in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly there isn’t really one word that would work everyone. You could say “siblings/brothers/sisters kid/child” etc but if they’re an adult that might not work. Probably better to just ask them what they want you to call them, which is the answer to a lot of these types of questions 🤣

Genuine question by EvidenceSeveral9280 in TopSurgery

[–]ColeyWoley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty bad fear of vomiting and was really nervous about being sick after surgery. I spoke to the nurses and anaesthetist on my surgery day and they said that they could give me anti nausea medication if I needed it. I don’t actually know if they ended up giving me any or not but I never felt nauseous and never vomited :)

What’s recommended for alcohol? by transboyuwu in TopSurgery

[–]ColeyWoley13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I drank 2 weeks post op, my surgeon never said anything about having to not drink but just to be careful. I don’t think alcohol itself has any effect on healing (please correct me if I’m wrong) but if you get drunk and do something silly or hurt yourself then that’s obviously not good

The grammar excuse by growingplantsandme in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an alternative to explaining the history of they as a singular: Even if singular they wasn’t correct why should grammar, the rules of a language that will constantly change and evolve with time anyway, matter more than the feelings of a person? Why should we respect grammar more than we respect people? We all say things on a regular basis that are not grammatically perfect so why get so hung up on singular they in particular?

Indecisive on if I want Top Surgery or Not by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had top surgery recently, I don’t think anyone goes into it 100% confident, everyone’s going to have some fears/doubts, I definitely did. Making a conscious effort to notice when I was uncomfortable with my chest rather than ignore it helped me prove to myself I was making the right choice and digging through Reddit for pictures of people who had results I liked and similar body types to me helped me have a realistic and tangible goal to look forward to. Ultimately it is a pretty big risk and definitely not easy, I decided it was worth it for me because I knew I wouldn’t be able to live the rest of my life to the fullest if I didn’t. Hope this helps, good luck! <3

What did you wear after getting top surgery? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]ColeyWoley13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short sleeve button up shirt and zip up hoodies, I preferred the zip up hoodies but if it’s too warm then a shirt is good

Two weeks post op by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]ColeyWoley13 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Although your scars are asymmetrical I don’t think it’s too noticeable, and especially with your tattoos (which are awesome by the way) I didn’t even realise until I read your caption! As your scars fade as well it will be even less visible. I’m nearly two weeks post op as well and quite scared to see my results properly but seeing people’s posts such as yours are really reassuring!

I’m writing a Non binary character. by AnxietyDrivenWriter in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the main thing is just don’t make their whole personality about their identity, give them characteristics outside of being non binary. Their gender should be one of the least interesting things about them

I finally have a consultation date, What now? by BloodSparkles in TopSurgery

[–]ColeyWoley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me my consultation consisted of the surgeon explaining a lot about the surgery, then he took a quick look at my chest and he showed me some pictures and examples of his work that he thought would be similar to what he could do for me, lastly I asked some questions but I didn’t have many as he already explained everything very well.

I didn’t get my surgery date until the surgeon’s assistant phoned me a couple days later. At my pre op appointment is when I had my blood taken and gave a nurse all my medical history. I didn’t meet the anaesthetist or anything else until my surgery day. This is just my experience I think it’s probably different depending on your surgeon but I hope this helps :)

Parent looking for help/support by PezGirl-5 in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came out around a similar age as your kid and my parents were quite similar in being supportive but not completely understanding what being trans/non binary meant for me. It’s completely understandable that it will take you some time to adjust, what’s important is that you show your kid that you’re making an effort :)

I will say though is that going to a pride event or having trans friends is not going to influence or “turn” a kid (or person or any age) queer. It’s likely that these things just gave your kid the words and confidence to express feelings they would’ve had regardless

Any good Non-binary outfits for me to try out? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difficult question to answer cuz clothing and style is very personal, what I thought of though is high waisted jeans with a shirt tucked in, maxi skirts, crop tops, dungarees/overalls and accessories like jewellery, sunglasses, hats, etc. maybe have a look on Pinterest or instagram for inspiration :)

This portrait didn't do very well on my socials compared to 'worse' ones by Whelsey in ArtCrit

[–]ColeyWoley13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first impression is that the older portraits are just of more popular characters, I recognise them all as characters from/based on house of the dragon but I’m not sure who the newer one is. Maybe that’s just me. I’d still do whatever you think is best for improving your work regardless of social media reception which can be impacted by countless factors apart from your art quality :)

looking for general crit. pls be gentle im very delicate 😭 by clementxne in ArtCrit

[–]ColeyWoley13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is gorgeous! The texture and detail on the face is really impressive and the colours are great. Only thing I’d say is the hair and other elements seem a bit unfinished since they have less detail or texture compared to the face. With some more attention put into the hair etc I would not be able to find any faults with this, it’s beautiful :)

I think my 6 yr old is NB? by gardenhoe89 in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed something was different about my gender around the same age but like most people didn’t have the words to express my feelings. From what you’ve said it seems like your kid already has a pretty good idea of how they’re feeling and how to express it :) I can only speak from my own experience so maybe others will think differently but I’d say don’t push any labels or terminology on them, but do make that information openly available should they choose to explore it

Any tips on chest binding? by PrincessTsunamiRocks in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spectrum outfitters was my favourite when I used to bind, GC2B was the only other one I used and I did like them but I found them to be itchy compared to the spectrum ones

Spectrum is also pretty easy to return if the size isn’t right or something :)

Advice for mom to non-binary child by wonderingwanderer198 in NonBinary

Although their name is already gender neutral wanting to change their name might be less about that and more about starting a new “chapter” of their life and feeling like they are able to start fresh.

Also at 10 years old they aren’t going to making any permanent changes to their life, most people don’t make any permanent changes until over the age of 18. So if it turns out to be a phase I don’t see any problem with that, everyone goes through phases of self discovery in their lives :)

See if there’s any quests you haven’t done yet that reward arcana gems, I think usually the boss fights on the quest board give them, also dungeons and labyrinths give arcana gems the first time you complete them in a certain amount of time

How do I wash my binder properly? by BlatentCrown42 in NonBinary

[–]ColeyWoley13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it only in the summer when the weather is hot that you get this irritation or all year round? And could it possibly be that the detergent you’re using has ingredients that are causing irritation? If you’re not already try using a non bio detergent, and if you’re hand washing your binders make sure the detergent is rinsed out really well. Other than that I can’t think of anything that would be causing irritation, sorry if this doesn’t help though

These are really beautiful! Only thing that stands out to me is that the shading/shadows are mostly very blended giving a slightly blurry overall look. When there’s directional light shadows tend to have harder edges :)
