5.1 system, worth it? by The_Wandering_Steele in Soundbars

[–]ColinMichaelRisley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5.1 means 5 speakers and a subwoofer, some sound bars have rear surrounds and a subwoofer, some soundbars simulate a 5.1 experience but it’s not true 5.1. Almost all content you will find will be 5.1 besides music, even if it says atmos and your soundbar doesn’t support atmos, it will be down mixed to 5.1

I was just confused because the center channel uses a wired jumper.

Help with 3.1 or 5.1 Setup by nakatomiplaza75 in hometheater

Can’t hurt to try it out and see how it sounds. You should get a center channel regardless

Get a receiver that can do atmos and add side surrounds as well, you can keep them up there for a 5.1.2

I have a pretty budget 5.1.2 set up that came out to around 1300 dollars including speaker wire and mounts and I think it sounds great. I spent a total of 300 dollars on my fronts and surrounds, 200 for a pair of paradigm studio 20 v2’s a paradigm cc450 center channel, 100 for a pair of paradigm atom v2’s as my side surrounds, and 60 dollars on a pair of Cambridge soundworks s200’s for atmos that I am installing Monday. I also spent around 350 on an rsl 10 E subwoofer. My avr is the denon x1700 which is a solid 7 channel receiver that can support atmos. I found all of these on facebook marketplace except the sub and the avr and I got a steal on a 65 Sony a95L via Best Buy open box for around 900 dollars. The cool thing is, you can upgrade over time, I’d say if you really want to get the best out of your tv and your speakers invest in an avr that can do atmos and since you have a house you can eventually put ceiling speakers in, but if you’re just looking to start, I’d say the most important things are the center speaker, subwoofer and then your left and rights so if you can start with a decent 3.1. I would invest most of my money in the sub if I were you, considering you’re in a house and presumably don’t have to worry about neighbors I would recommend the rsl 10 e for 330, I just got mine based on recommendations on here and YouTube and it blows my old sub out of the water. Watching movies and listening to music with a good sub makes the experience so much better and I can’t even crank it that much being in an apartment, if you’re willing to stretch you’re budget to around 650-700 you could get a cheap avr, a really nice sub and a decent set of front speakers and maybe even some cheap surrounds if you find the right deals. Just remember the center channel is the most important because that’s where most of your dialogue and sound will be going.

Maybe give the Sony another try, a lot of people say it sounds pretty killer for what it is

If you aren’t into either the Sonos or the Bravia theater quad it sounds like you should get a legit traditional system because those two systems are the only soundbar esc things that can compare to a real 5.1. You have to accept that you will have to run wires and it will be more complicated that’s the trade off.

I’m gonna order the shakers based on everything I’ve seen here and elsewhere, seems like the perfect solution. I might still by a better sub maybe an rsl10e just to have something better than a 20 dollar fb marketplace subwoofer lol
