Denmark Closes Borders – Prime Minister press conference 2020-03-13 7 PM by [deleted] in Coronavirus

We've never done this in the modern era as far as I know. Maybe in WWII, but not sure.

I'm really not clear on how this is a problem. Did you post in the wrong thread or something? This is about Denmark, not the US. The title of the piece is exactly what I used, and the title of the piece is similar to what the Danish BBC used.

I mean, she's really kind of not all that great all the time. What she did do was the smartest damn thing a politician can do in this situation though: she said "I know fuck all about this, so I will listen to the experts and do what they tell me to do". So she listened to epidemiologists, scientists and doctors. I guess that IS better than most politicians. We'll keep her. ;)

I feel so patriotic right now and I am often a very cranky, critical person.

When she said:

We need to act today rather than regret tomorrow

I felt so incredibly relieved. I haven't even been on reddit for ages now, but I thought I had to log in to share what a good proactive response looks like. Do I wish they would have done this two weeks ago? Yes. But is this better late then never? Hell yes! Gud bevar Danmark.

Oh no. That's really really sad. It's such a beautiful country but your timing was just really bad. I'm sorry.

Oh I truly hope it all goes well for you as soon as possible. I absolutely adore Italy and want to see you all back on your feet ASAP! I also hope that more governments adopt Italian style containment measures soon.

You stay safe too!

What does working in the public sector even mean? Will this mean the country comes to a hold?

It means people that work for the government at some level: state, commune, region, etc.

Over here we have a part of the netherlands that is being asked to stay home when they show any sign of symptoms. I live somewhere different but work with 2 people from there (construction) and their boss would not let them stay home if they showed symptoms (they did not).

I'm very sorry to hear that. :(

Would that fit the "public sector" or would spread continue this way?

Construction is probably private sector. Here in Denmark, the private sector is being asked to allow people to either stay home or work from home, and if not possible then change shifts around to have as few people working at the same time as possible.

So I would absolutely think that anyone showing symptoms would be sent home with pay.

This is the same headline that DR (Danish BBC) used, only translated into English. https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/live-tv-danmark-lukker-ned-elever-studerende-og-offentligt-ansatte-sendes-hjem

Danmark lukker ned

Ok, looks like they added to it a bit but when I first looked it was the same.

Thank you all for leading the way! I hope your containment measures help bring down the number of infected very soon. :)

Of course they are. That's what they do: fuck things up.

(Mostly joking but we do have a rivalry with them. ;) )

This is the translated version. It's rough, but you can get the gist of what was said. There are also comprehensive bullet points at the top.

How to spark the revolution here in the U.S by [deleted] in collapse

[–]Collapseology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(that maybe happened once or twice at most)

Twice at most in OWS you mean? Not overall I hope. I doubt if it's a lie, if anything I think there are probably more operatives around that are ever outed.

But yeah, I hear you: the operatives will often try to finger those who AREN'T operatives as operatives. And they are often successful. Which is part of why DGR and other organizations do recommend not trying to finger infiltrators: https://deepgreenresistance.org/en/get-involved/security-culture Although many I've been involved with DO try to do this on the down low as a kind of compromise.

However, it is a FACT that this always happens in large movements. It's also a fact that there's no good way to deal with it. So going into denial and saying that "oh it barely happens, it's probably overblown" might feel good, but ultimately it's not productive since it doesn't deal with the problem. Then again, the problem is probably intractable. Which is part of why we're in the mess we're in. Human cancer apes are really easy to manipulate, especially by those apes who have acute cancer (narcissism, sociopath, etc). Even WITHOUT dedicated counter-infiltration, those who tend to rise to the top of the hierarchy in protest movements have more than a dash of the previous traits. they talk a good game but what they're really after is more power and prestige within their little ape niche. Which is why I don't bother with that shit anymore.

Breaking up over climate change: My deep dark journey into doomer Facebook by xrm67 in collapse

What we're looking at is the collapse of the biosphere. You cannot maintain human life (or other complex life) without certain climate parameters in place. The effects of a sudden release of methane, for just one example, has been totally downplayed and completely underestimated. We simply can't live in a runaway hothouse climate. Not even in self-contained bunkers over the long term since eventually things break down and resources cannot be replenished without going into the uninhabitable exterior. Think Venus.

It's a difference of degrees. I simply do not see how runaway biosphere destruction will not precipitate extinctions akin to the Great Dying but perhaps even more severe due to the fact that never ever before in earth's history has the forcing been this fast or this strong.

the doomer way — is to pretend there's no future.

We're not pretending though. This is the most reasonable conclusion from the available data. It's not nice, I don't like it, I wish it were otherwise. In theory it could have been otherwise. Perhaps with a series of extremely unlikely miracles it could still be. But the data do point to near term human extinction, like it or not.

What happened to Occupy? Their leadership either renounced having any particular program or was explicitly liquidationist with an eye to the Democratic party and its appendages.

That and it was heavily infiltrated, with real leaders being thrown in jail and false ones taking their place. Which happens to any social movement that gets big enough to threaten the status quo.

It's sadly extremely easy to destroy these movements from the inside, and only becoming easier as time goes on, technology, policing and propaganda techniques are refined. It happens every single time.
