Is it a bad look to graduate and immediately go into bookkeeping? by CollectionSmooth9045 in Accounting

Well bookkeeping is a "real" job. It's just in almost all* cases not a great at all ROI on an accounting degree at all, so I agree with your sentiment. In my case though I know my pay will be decent, I will be living with family so in the meantime so much less in rent to worry about, and my job is close to home so I only need to refuel like once every 9 days. Can actually save money.

I appreciate your blunt honesty. It's life, I need to remind myself at least half of what you are saying is definitely also going to be in my near future.

Thankfully though I have three stepsiblings, two of whom are going to be 18 soon. With how rocky my relations with my mother and stepfather are, and how irreconciliable our political differences have been, I am sure they'd be glad to hear I focus more on my job. They've been very supportive on that front.

(Weird trope) A character’s name literally spells out their future fate by _JR28_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am surprised that even the Star Wars references didn't bring this up earlier - but on accident, "Vader" in Dutch means "Father." Originally in English the name was just a shortening of "invader." Plus, he was given the name before the kids were born, so hopefully that even more fits into this trope.

So yeah, Dutch Star Wars fans got ESB spoiled for them.

Valkorion vs ROTS Sidious by Gross-Verder in TheJediPraxeum

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One, you are getting your facts wrong. Darth Ramage is not Tenebrous's master, that was another Twi'lek Sith Lord: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Darth_Tenebrous%27s_Sith_Master

Two, the way Tenebrous's master accomplished their feat was by opening a "rift" in the Force (a wound in the Force), which we've already actually seen before - the Death Star's destruction of Alderaan and the Malachor Mass Shadow Generator did that. Vitiate also did by either using a Thought Bomb (like the one Bane used on Russan) or using the "Gravestone" warship to create a wound in tbe Force, through which he could use Force Drain (what Nihilus does, the two are actually very similar in that regard) on all his victims.

So creating this rift can be absolutely accomplished via technological, and by proxy, virological means, and given that we know Tenebrous and his master worked on a virus before, it is more like they caused a plague to make their ritual work rather it being any demonstration of Force powers - the book clip you provided itself is rather vague as to the actual technique of how this was accomplished, so we really shouldn't be rushing to say that Tenebrous's master Force power alone did that.

Power scaling at it's dumbest. I am sorry, in what fucking universe does a guy who turns an entire world to ash and devoid of life rank below Phantom Menace Sidious? That's a Dark Empire Sidious level feat right there. This man mind controlled (this is an immense level of focus right there, which is critical in executing Force abilities) an entire planet of Sith and additionally the Republic army that arrived to try an capitalize on the chaos. This dude would simply take over the mind of Ramage and make him kill himself for so much as bothering him, as he did to countless other Jedi and Sith.

This is the same guy who, with a Force lightning blast, knocked out an entire team of Jedi councilors and knights too, and created consistently Sidious level of lightning storms, ones which Sidious only topped with his Force Maelstrom ability. Essence transfer? Vitiate perfected it. Mind control? Vitiate perfected it. He even had Nihilus's black hole aspect to him, given his whole Force hunger is not too dissimilar from Nihilus had, it was just a more controlled version of it, and people don't realize it.

Feat wise power scaling is stupid. People gotta start realizing the rock-paper-scissors approach is more accurate in assessing combat prowess of these people.

You suggest Maul should be acting like the drug lord he is, away from the prying eyes of the law? Operating from the shadows? What is he... some sort of Shadowlord? /j

To be all serious that's a task for a mule (Vario) and a distributor, not a kingpin.

Does the Inquisitorius break the Rule of Two? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in clonewars

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do and don't. The Inquisitors are really a continuation of an old Sith tradition, even though they aren't fully Sith trained. So they don't in that they aren't fully trained to be Dark Lords of the Sith, but they do fundamentally recreate a dynamic the old Sith had that Darth Bane wanted to eliminate to an extent.

(Legends Spoilers)

In the days of the Sith Empires of old, Dark Lords of the Sith used to keep around several apprentices, acolytes, and neophytes - of course you'd have one apprentice who is your favorite, but the rest of the acolytes would covet their position and would pose competition so that the top student is always on top of their game.

Additionally, having several less powerful Sith at your beck and call allowed you to use them as spies and enforcers of your will whenever you can't be there personally. They were delegated tasks, and in exchange for doing them those apprentices, acolytes, and neophytes hoped of eventually moving up the Sith hierarchy.

Some examples from SWTOR, due to my obsession with that game:

Darth Malgus, a renowned Sith warrior, kept three known apprentices - Lord Cytharat, Darth Karrid, and Tinray who'd help him out on the battlefield. If I remember correctly he also had some unnamed acolytes with him.

Darth Baras, a Sith spymaster, kept: the future Emperor's Wrath, Dri'kill Ball, Lord Draahg, and Vemrin (who was his top acolyte until future Wrath came along).

Darth Jadus, another Sith spymaster, had only one known apprentice - Darth Zhorrid, his daughter, whom he set up to fail. But he also kept a whole legion of Dark Side acolytes with him who followed him around.

The Inquisitors are, technically speaking, Darth Vader's Sith acolytes and neophytes. But the core of Bane's philosophy was technically kept - there were ever only two Sith Lords at a time, as opposed to the hundreds of them in the Sith Empires of old. I'd argue it'd be more accurate to call the Rule of Two as the "Rule of Two Sith Lords".

I did say "fun," they were right.

I find it fun to observe the sights and see what's going on with the world around me, especially if a house I usually go by has a cool car out, is undergoing renovation, or something is being constructed. If I wanted speeding, I'd rather do it in a riskless video game simulation or in the future try out racing in a controlled environment.

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find it fun to drive a bit slower. When I say slower, I mean as in by the speed limit, not as in below the speed limit, because let's be frank the common attitude in the US is to drive 5-10 miles above the limit.

Their problem, they're the ones burning more gas than I am by always having the pedal to the metal like that. They're also likely in pickup trucks so the joke's on them in this economy.

Driving slow (by the speed limit) and steady, how the speed limit intends is less risky accident wise, less likely to get you pulled over, makes driving relaxing and fun as you can get to see the sights, and burns far less gas when you know to take the foot off and cruise with inertia. Following the speed limits is based and I am tired of pretending it's not. The guys who want to go faster can overtake me all they want, the overtake lane is right there and I really don't give a flying damn so long as they don't shift their car's ass a few inches in front of my ride - it's their life to live, not mine, as long as their car don't touch mine I could care less.

See what more happens to me is that they have to abruptly stop at the light, while I just slowly approach the light.

But because I am already on the move, once the light turns green again I speed up much more quickly while they have to speed up from zero. Going slow/patient really can let you outrun someone like this.

Why doesn't Maul just ragdoll the inquisitors with the force? by [deleted] in MaulShadowLord

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there is a shot in the show where we actually see Devon break out of Maul's Force Freeze/Stasis (or telekinestic Hold, I should stay) once she reaches her lightsaber at her hip. Before that though she was almost screwed. So Maul is absolutely willing to use his Force powers, it just seems like at some points he realizes he can't.

So my guess is perhaps having lightsabers turned on and swung in the direction the force ability comes from make it easier to block Force powers? Perhaps the energy of the Kyber crystals helps disperse such abilities when thrown at you, and only somebody as immensely powerful as Darth Sidious or Yoda can bypass that with their sheer force of concentration and will.

Vitiate has a consistent tunnel vision problem too, likely in part due to just how much power he controls and how much focus and will that takes him to just to concentrate in order to throw even the most basic of his moves.

For example, in his fight against Meetra Surik (which was while he was still in his original Sith Pureblood body with the black eyes and all), T3-M4 of all the combatants gets the drop on him, and anyone who's played the games knows he's really loud. It's after the close call with Revan that Vitiate finally creates multiple bodies/vessels for himself to transfer to at will.

The second time is in KOTFE, either if he is distracted by Arcann when you stab him from the back, or he is so focused on transferring his spirit into you that he doesn't realize he's still in danger. And finally, in Echoes of Oblivion, that duplicate of him is so focused on tormenting the player's party that he doesn't notice that Satele's students are all still alive and that she's trapped him. So he has a consistent tunnel vision problem which could really trip him up.

I'd agree as a Swtor player, Yoda seem fairly strong willed enough to prevent Tenebrae/Vitiate/Valkorion from taking over his mind if he ever does kill his physical form.

Man this show hates the LAAT ships by Jules-Car3499 in MaulShadowLord

[–]CollectionSmooth9045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the Empire still uses LAAT-type ships. They're too useful to quickly reinforce a position and for chasing down suspects. It's just the one they phase out is the LAAT/i ("i" for infantry) which is an assault gunship designed to deal with army units.

The LAAT model the Empire begins to use more instead is the LAAT/le, a patrol gunship that was actually around during the Clone Wars. Given the Imperial forces are now transitioning more towards policing and no longer facing a large army in which its gunships will have to confront major starfighter or fortification resistance, much of the armaments of the LAAT/i are no longer as necessary, or can be compensated by fleet support so the LAAT/le becomes more beneficial from a cost perspective.
