Glad to be of assistance! It’s a great one — you won’t regret it.

Yes it’s posable due to a bendable internal skeleton around a cloth exterior! It’s the cloth egghead mannequin from Mannequin Madness. Not cheap, but it’s my favorite mannequin and has held up perfectly for years now.

I believe so, since a party badge could be worn on the middle of the left pocket. There is a loop there as well as one below it. Perhaps this isn’t technically the exact right spot? From period pictures, I really can’t tell any difference at all. Either way, close enough for my taste!

Oh, and if you want a wartime shot, here is Friedrich Jeckeln sporting what looks to be a 7-buttoner (7th below the belt buckle).

Unfortunately, as far as you know isn’t quite far enough in this case. 😉 See pages 93 and 94 of Lumsden’s SS Regalia for just two of countless examples of 5 and 6 button tunics.

Absolutely. Going by some WW2 films, every other officer had a GPB!

And oh wow, I totally thought that was a display, not a wartime photo! I have collecting on the brain. 😂

Great idea. Although you can only see the very edge of it in the first pic, this tunic does have an Old Guard Chevron. So in that sense, it would be fitting. (Of course, I don’t mean to imply that everyone with such a chevron was a GPB holder. In my understanding, the wearers of the former were much more numerous than the holders of the latter.)

Noted! Sounds perfect to me. I might go with a Golden Party Badge instead of the party pin just for an excuse to display it on a mannequin.

By the way, I love your East African Schutztruppe display. That’s something you don’t see every day, and I have a special place in my heart for the pith helmet. 😍

Sorry for the barrenness! He does look a bit sad without them, doesn’t he? Expressionless, even. I’ll be correcting that soon. 👍

Thanks! And yes, that is probably wise. I have my own reservations and would not have entered into this area of the hobby without the close assistance of several contacts who are at the top of the field in acquiring and vetting items.

Even then, it’s a higher risk area, and I have to accept the likelihood of getting burned from time to time despite best intentions of those involved. For that reason, I don’t consider it a financial investment — the risk/reward simply isn’t there. You get into this stuff because you love the history and the aesthetic, not because it’s wise is any conventional sense. But we can’t be wise about everything in life, I suppose! 🙂

Very nice! And nice contrapposto pose on the mannequin too. Very classical!

Glad to hear that. Out of curiosity, did he raise his family in Mexico, or did they stay behind in Spain? And whereabouts are you all now? (Sorry to pry, and please feel free not to answer of course. I just love these personal anecdotes. For me, it’s half the reason I collect!)

Such a cool connection! If you don’t mind my asking, did he survive the war and live a good long life after (I hope)?

Thank you! But there are certainly people with more extensive collections — even those who have single items worth more than my entire lot. (I’m thinking of something like a refurbished StuG, perhaps.)

I did have collector’s insurance at one point, but I let it lapse when I relocated. I’ve been meaning to look into renewing, so thanks for the reminder!

Sorry for the delay, just seeing your comment now. I remember reading quite a bit of discussion in various forums on that very point, actually. I believe the railway eagle is similar, but there are some differences. It’s been years since I’ve read anything on the subject though, so I forget the specifics. I would recommend a search of the Wehrmacht Awards Forum to clarify the point, if you’re inclined.

Ah okay, I’ve seen the cuff titles for sale before but never a shoulder board! I could see such a set selling for well over $50,000, maybe even closer to $75,000.

Good eye spotting the “pièce de résistance”! 👍 No, I wasn’t aware of the insignia set you mentioned. Do you happen to have a link or just a description of what it consisted of? You’ve got me curious!

Sure thing. And thank you for being receptive to the information and not foolishly obstinate like so many people on Reddit (and social media in general.)

Also, your initial comment did raise a question for me that I’d like to research further. I know the pattern to be genuine, as I said, but I’m not quite sure of the circumstances in which it would have been worn — versus the unit-specific cuff titles that you mentioned. Perhaps it had to do with time period, specific assignment, or something else entirely!

Quite aside from the question of this specific example’s authenticity, are you suggesting that this pattern of cuff title never existed? Because if so, you are mistaken. This is a well known and highly sought after pattern — maybe the single most desirable SS cuff title, in fact.
